Scriptures to be Removed from Military Weapons

Last week I wrote that ABC News had "exposed" manufacturer, Trijicon, for putting Scripture references on weapons made for the US military.

Well, it didn't take long. Here's what happened.

Critics called the Scripture references unconstitutional and claimed they broke a government rule banning American troops from proselytizing. That's general order #1.

Proselytizing?

A reference to a biblical verse is proselytizing?

Trijicon has voluntarily agreed to stop the practice they have held for nearly 30 years.

This episode raises some concerns---beyond the obvious.

First, there is a growing global consensus to restrict people from sharing their faith---particularly if they are Christian. This, of course, stands in direct conflict with the great biblical command to go into all the world and preach the gospel, which is fundamental to Christian belief.

Secondly, this is one more example of an anti-Christian minority imposing its will on both a majority of the people and the historical Christian heritage of this nation.

There has been a concerted and often successful effort over the last several generations to depict America as always having been a secular nation and our Founding Fathers primarily deists.

The secular progressives have argued that the values the Founders held were values drawn from secular Enlightenment, not those taken from Judeo-Christian Scripture.

A quick read of the comments and letters of our Founders puts that idea to rest. Or does it?

Friends of mine from the old Soviet Union have told me there was a saying in those days, "In the Soviet Union, the future is known; it's the past that keeps changing."

As secularists have continued to revise history, strip every vestige of our Judeo-Christian heritage from the public square, and indoctrinate our children, transforming the classroom into a social experimental laboratory, we have seen cultural confusion and darkness begin to settle across the land.

Ironically, one of the verse references "exposed" by ABC was John 8:12 which quotes Jesus saying, "I am the Light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but have the light of life."

John also points out that, "the Light shines in the darkness and the darkness does not comprehend it."

An ancient prophet, speaking on behalf of God, once told a nation that had lost her way, "Arise shine; For the light has come! And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you." (Isaiah 60:1)

The same prophet also said, although darkness shall cover the earth and deep darkness the people, "The Lord will arise over you."

As patriot Patrick Henry has correctly observed, the Christian values and principles that have provided the foundation for the God given freedoms we enjoy in this great nation, have also given those of other beliefs or those with no belief, the same freedoms.

Perhaps those who so strongly oppose any Christian expression or influence and seek to secularize this country should consider how the loss of those principles would undermine their own freedom, even the freedom to publicly dissent on this very matter.

May America be restored as the light arises through another great awakening.

Be prayerful. Be vigilant. Be active. Do not be silent.

God bless you.
