Breaking News: Obama Will No Longer Defend Marriage

Print Friendly Version of this pagePrint Get a PDF version of this webpagePDF
The Justice Department announced this afternoon that President Obama will no longer defend natural marriage and the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).

In doing so he is abandoning both marriage itself and any pretense of support he may have had toward natural marriage between one man and one woman.

He and his Attorney General, Eric Holder, now believe the law is unconstitutional.

The President says he believes Congress enacted DOMA for "moral" reasons, he will no longer support it, and he believes the moral position of DOMA amounts to "animus" toward homosexuals.

One wonders how he will look at other laws based on morality.

Congress, as the author of DOMA, can defend the law in court, but President will not.

Are all laws based on morality now unconstitutional?

God help us.

  1. I think this is great news. Mr. Obama has just committed political suicide.

  2. It seems our president is in quite a bit of deception. There's nothing civil or civilized about homosexual marriage, not by any lasting and real standard.

May God turn around America that it might endure. God save America! We've sinned against him in so many ways yet he's continued to bless and keep us.

  3. I wonder why he has said in the past he did not support gay marriage? Reed in the wind. He loosing much of his support base, he must be trying to hang on to the gays for next election. I don't think it will work.

  4. What will the left wing evangelicals do now. Will they continue to support him? Probably will.

  5. During the '60's when there were race riots in the streets the price of a gallon of gasoline was relatively affordable. Then there arose men like Martin Luther King Jr., and some of the racial problems began to be healed.

Gasoline continued to be realatively affordable and muscle cars
had their day. But then there was Roe v Wade, and gasoline shortages were seen. God gave us grace and most of us had what we needed, but marriage began to fall apart a bit, there was a rise in sexual promiscuity, and gasoline wasn't as affordable as it used to be.

Then the gay agenda gained momentum and the price of gallon of gasoline began to soar and a thriving economy began to falter.

I wonder if we will see it written in the children's history books that way.

Yet I know God is writing his history lessons. Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord. (from Psalm 33)

  6. "I wonder if we will see it written in the children's history books that way."

Only if they are written by biased partisan hacks, with little to no understanding of actual history, laboring under the misconception that correlation (the existence of which is tenuous at best) always equals causation.

Unfortunately, Texas sends those books out to schools everywhere!

  8. The question the Obama administration is answering is not "Do gays have a constitutional right to marry?" The question is "Does the federal government have a constitutional right to single out legally married gay couples and deny them federal benefits allowed all other legally married couples?"

The answer is clearly no. In a country like America, which prides itself on equal treatment under the law, this position is indefensible.

Marriage laws are dictated by the individual states. That’s why they vary from state to state. The federal government freely recognizes all marriages performed in any state and has never discriminated in the recognition of these marriages -- that is, until the DOMA. The DOMA singles out legally married gay couples, and only gay couples, and denies us access to all of the federal benefits and recognition marriage provides for our neighbors.

You may disagree whether gay couples should be allowed to marry in the first place, but, the fact is, a handful of states (and DC) allow gay couples to legally marry, and tens of thousands of gay couples have already legally married in this country. Are we really a society that supports government discrimination of some legal marriages and not others? Or do we believe in equal treatment under the law for all of our citizens? If we are the America we claim to be, I hope it’s the latter.

  9. Why would anyone expect different from the servants of the prince of this world?

  10. President Obama is showing his true colors. Abortion, gay-rights, same sex marriage, funding Mosques in countries that would like to see the death of America, bowing to Islamic leaders, supporting the building of an Islamic “Cultural Center” next to the sight where radical Muslims claim victory over America, the Great Satan. Where will it end? If America does not wake up it will end with Islamic law being the law of our God forsaken land. Will God intercede? Only if we who name the name of Christ stand up and make our voice and vote count. Bud in Lynnwood.
