Big Bird to President Obama: Get Off My Back

During last week's debate, Mitt Romney said he would, as president, cut funding to PBS, even though he likes Big Bird, because he will not continue to borrow money from China to pay for such things.

President Obama seized the moment.

Lacking anything more substantive, President Obama jumped on Big Bird's back, thinking he could get some political mileage out of the ride.

Faster than the speed of sound, the Obama campaign transformed the Big Bird moment into a political ad---a hard hitting ad that mocks Romney and invokes the names of "Bernie Madoff. Ken Lay. Dennis Kozlowski. Criminals. Gluttons of Greed" the ad says.

Now Big Bird has a message for President Obama:

"Get off my back."

Sesame Workshop website reads, "Sesame Workshop is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization and we do not endorse candidates or participate in political campaigns. We have approved no campaign ads, and as is our general practice, have requested that the ad be taken down."

As I'm writing this, with the Sesame Street link up on my screen, my 2 year old granddaughter walked into my office, looked and pointed at the screen and laughed.

Others are laughing as well. But its a nervous laugh.

Good grief.

This man is the leader of the free world, drowning in a sea of uncertainty and confusion that his policies, not those of George Bush, are creating.

And that's not funny.

God help us.
