The March To Moral Madness

The Republican Party seems to be marching away from our Founding principles and biblical Christian values that the party affirms in their platform, but denies in their actions.

Their latest blueprint to success, "The Growth And Opportunity Project" released yesterday, affirms that politics is more important than principle, relativism is making an impact on the Grand Old Party and they are reading tea leaves rather than facts.

They are marching toward moral madness, and they're insisting we join the parade.

The March To Nowhere---Conflicted Moral Confusion

If this march continues, millions of evangelicals, Catholics and conservatives will skip the parade, because it is becoming a moral charade.

The RNC's project committee reported that "there is a generational difference within the conservative movement about issues involving the treatment and rights of gays...and for many young voters, these issues are a gateway into whether the Party is a place they want to be."

They said, "If the Party is not 'welcoming' and 'inclusive,' young people and other voters will continue to tune us out."

Is using demographics the path to principles and values? Is this how we discover what we believe? And who we are?

That is the hallmark of the progressive movement---not people of faith and conservatives.

While well meaning words, "welcoming" and "inclusive" have become the favorite buzz words for activists who seek to redefine marriage, family and the culture.

Could these folks be blinded by their own moral evolution? Or are the use of these kinds of words intentional?

They are reading the polls that show a movement toward redefining marriage---some polls more than others, and using that as a compass for the future and as a reason to change their values.

Here's what they are ignoring.

The most recent ABC poll is among the most favorable to those seeking to redefine marriage and family.

However, it also shows that 59% of all Republicans oppose same-sex marriage. And among conservative Republicans, 71% oppose it. Conservative Republicans make up the majority of the Republican Party.

If they pick up a few confused progressives, will that replace the exodus of conservatives their actions are certain to produce?

And how far left do they feel they need to go to get progressives to vote for "moderate" Republicans?

If we are "moderate" enough, do we really think we can fool people into thinking we're liberals or progressives?

They are conflicted morally and politically.

The March To Moral Madness.

I guess you could call it a "gay pride march" of sorts.

I wasn't surprised when Hillary Clinton came out officially last week in support of same-sex marriage. As expected, she said this is the most important civil right of our time.

Keep in mind there is a significant difference between ethnicity and a chosen sexual behavior.

Obama, Biden, Bill Clinton and the host of other Democrats that have come out in support of same-sex marriage didn't surprise me either. That's what secular progressives do. They test the political winds, then profess their deeply held values and convictions.

Rob Portman, however, was a bit of a surprise when he announced he has "evolved" on marriage, just like President Obama. His credentials as a conservative and as a Christian were seen as pretty strong---he has been considered as a vice-presidential candidate.

He said his previous views on marriage were rooted in his Methodist faith and his change of heart came "as a result of the Bible's overarching themes of love and compassion."

He also announced that his son "came-out" in 2011 as someone who practices homosexual behavior.

That certainly would be devastating for most any parent. But are feelings a basis to change one's deeply held biblical beliefs and values? And does the Bible's teaching on love and compassion some how nullify its teaching on homosexual behavior?

Can one not love a person, while rejecting their sin?

Vice President Dick Cheney, whose younger daughter is a lesbian, has responded in a similar way.

White House spokesman Josh Earnest said this last week, "What is clear is that we are witnessing a pretty significant sociological shift in this country."

He said, "It's happening right before our eyes in a way that says a lot about our country, that we are a country where we prioritize equality and fairness."

Indeed it does say a lot about our country.

We are marching toward moral madness, making up truth and values as we go, in lockstep with the drumbeat of the secular progressive movement that controls public education and now wants to control public policy, public discourse and the federal government.

In free flowing relativism, who decides what is "equal?" Who decides what is "fair?"

The elite decide.

The Growth Project committee lamented in their report that "young voters are increasingly rolling their eyes at what the Party represents."

It isn't only "young voters" who are rolling their eyes.

Republican political consultant Ford O'Connell says the Party is really serious about making changes before the next presidential election.

He said, "Republicans are really reading the tea leaves" in their attempt to chart the course.

Indeed they are. It appears they are also reading palms and drawing tarot cards from the deck.

We need leadership.

If the GOP wants to win, stop running from our values. The present leadership continues to mandate the idea of becoming more moderate. The 2012 election was not a mandate for anything. Both 2004 and 2010 were mandates.

What 2012 shows us is that Romney got fewer votes than John McCain. The GOP is running the wrong candidates.

Politically, we must stop running from our values.

Spiritually, we've got to stop talking about values only at election time in our churches. We must start teaching and preaching biblical principles and values---a biblical worldview, all the time and as needed relate that truth to our culture and the moral issues of our culture.

If pastors don't lead, who will? Who should lead? Barack Obama? Mitt Romney? Joe Biden? Rush Limbaugh?

God help us.
