The Trek To Tyranny

When a Christian man recently told me he had not voted for President Obama, but he did appreciate the fact that he is doing so much to help so many in these hard times, I remembered a statement made by Joseph B.H. McMillan:

"Our current obsession with rights is delusional, and a direct threat to freedom. We do not build a temple of freedom by stacking one 'right' on top another like bricks; instead we build ourselves a prison, a prison governed by a tyranny of rights."

V.I. Lenin described unthinking supporters of his dictatorship as "useful idiots."

It has been said, "The evils of tyranny are rarely seen but by him who resists it."

Unthinking people are enabling this administration to build a power base that undermines the very foundations of our freedom.

When Hitler was building up his NAZI movement of the 1920's leading to his taking power in the 1930's, he deliberately sought to activate the less informed and the very young.

They were useful.

Today, in the name of fairness and equality, and even compassion, the President is building, not a temple of freedom, but a cultural prison governed by the tyranny of rights.

And Jim Wallis and his religious left are assisting in the trek to tyranny with their "social justice" movement.

The President is building a fiscal prison and a cultural prison. One that will not only enslave this generation, but generations to come.

A Fiscal Prison

  • Over 50,000,000 people are now on food stamps in the US.
  • The number of people on disability payments is at an all time high in our country.

Christians are instructed to be compassionate.

Indeed.

This is an act of compassion. Right?

Delegate Eleanor Norton, D-District of Columbia, told the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee hearing a few days ago that "private sector jobs are not showing much growth because the federal government is shrinking."

The Committee is studying her comments. Honest.

Nowhere is there a more stark contrast of views of the role of government and "rights" than in the 2 contrasting budget proposals that Congress is now considering.

Senator Patty Murray, D-WA, and her colleagues have introduced a budget that in 4 years creates nearly $1 trillion in new taxes.

Representative Paul Ryan, R-Wis. and his colleagues have introduced a budget that reduces tax rates, abolishes Obamacare and balances the budget in 10 years.

Which is more compassionate? Which ultimately gives more benefits to more people?

A Cultural Prison

The policies of our President is fostering a climate of tyranny in our culture.

Political correctness has cast such a dark shadow on America that citizens have found it more safe to be silent than to express any deeply held religious beliefs. Or to resist the trek to tyranny, where in the name of "rights," many are losing theirs.

"Rights" are bestowed by government in ways that not only usurp the religious freedom and beliefs of most Americans, but imposes restrictions of religious expression, with penalties when violated.

The President now declares which federal laws are and are not constitutional.

And he is counting on the masses to remain silent---in ignorance or in fear. And he has come to expect the unwavering support of the press and the applause of the religious left.

Here's how it works.

America was founded on the fundamental principle stated in the Declaration of Independence---"all people are created equal---endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights."

If you want to create a tyrannical government or dictatorship for that matter, using the mechanisms of a constitutional republic, your actions must fit the historical nature of the society.

The only rightful force is to uphold the law, the only just law is that which protects unalienable rights.

So, to increase personal power, you must "discover" more "rights" and protect them.

This is insidious because it actually puts those who seek power in a position to never have to argue for more power.

And those who resist such schemes are labeled insensitive, uncaring, bigoted, hateful and unchristian.

This strategy enables them to become the "advocate" for the downtrodden, the disenfranchised and the disadvantaged. The champion of minorities.

  • Healthcare is now seen as a right.
  • Same-sex "marriage" is now seen as a right.
  • Abortion is now seen as a right.
  • College education is now seen as a right.

The list of new found "rights" is as long as it needs to be to successfully remake America into the image of secular progressivism. And build a personal and political power base in the name of "helping people."

C.S. Lewis said, "Of all tyrannies a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive."

Cloaked in deception, public education is re-educating our children to these new "truths" while the left, including the religious left, gain power and influence and create a tyranny.

Jim Wallis and his religious left "So-Journers" organization advances this trek to tyranny using so-called "scriptural authority" to do so.

While biblical teaching instructs us to feed the hungry, take care of the poor and seek justice and equality, we are not called to destroy a nation, redistribute wealth and saddle generations to come with debt they can never repay in the name of biblical truth.

Only 2 things need to happen for this trek to tyranny to succeed.

First, remain indifferent, uninformed and detached from the moral issues of our time. Be ignorant to the consequences of these kinds of policies.

Secondly, remain silent. Be intimidated by political correctness or silenced by fear. Or misled to believe Christians have no responsibility to speak biblical truth to our culture.

And while America forgets God and Christians remain silent, tyrants forge our chains.

And if we continue on this trek to tyranny, we will be captives, bound by the chains of tyrants---locked in the prison of "Rights."

Be Vigilant. Be Discerning. Be Informed. Be Bold. Be Prayerful. Be Blessed.
