Boy Scouts Of America: They Cannot Not Serve Two Masters

As a private organization, the Boy Scouts of America has always held the official moral position that open homosexual behavior was incompatible with the code of scouting.

Years ago the state of New Jersey argued in a lawsuit against the BSA that their long standing policy violated public accommodation laws. The case went all the way to the Supreme Court. In 2000 the case, Boy Scouts of America v. Dale, was ruled in favor of the BSA. The Court said a private organization has a First Amendment right to express themselves through defining their membership criteria.

So the legal assault to redefine the Scouts failed.

However, the secular progressives, linked with the 4% who claim to be homosexual, decided to go with Plan B---attack their corporate funding.

And they have successfully done so.

Corporate sponsors, influenced by activists, have begun to cut off the money.

For example, in 2010 Intel gave at least $10,000 to the BSA, but by September of 2012, they announced they would stop their funding until the BSA lifted its ban on openly homosexual members. Merck, UPS, AT&T, Ernst and Young and other major corporations have followed Intel.

So in trying to accommodate both sides---serve two masters, BSA, with its new proposed policy change to be voted on in May, has become a profile in duplicity. A double minded entity, trying to be all things to all people.

It appears to be a snapshot of moral chaos.

Here's what they are proposing.

This is a link to the BSA proposed policy change.

The change is trying to accommodate both sides of the issue. While comprise is a big idea in current America, it's a bad idea because moral compromise never works.

The BSA's proposal seems to me to be kind of an attempt to agree with everyone and establish a predetermined outcome.

They are proposing that the BSA will retain their complete ban on adults, age 18+, who openly engage in homosexual behavior from serving in any scouting role, but change the youth under 18 policy to read, "No youth may be denied membership in the Boy Scouts of America on the basis of sexual orientation or preference alone."

A national survey of scouting families showed that 61% wanted to keep the long standing policy against open homosexuality in scouting and only 34% wanted it repealed.

Other studies show that most parents want to discuss sexuality and other moral values with their children, not have them taught by organizations, including the BSA. Most parents, with the exception of the far left progressives, feel public education has already claimed ground that is not there's to claim and are out of line in their use of Planned Parenthood, GLSEN, LGBT and other advocacy group materials to indoctrinate the children on these important issues.

If the BSA votes to pass this policy in May, it is destined to fail.

Here is just one of several ways in which it will fail.

Let's say you have a boy who joins the Scouts at age 12. When he is 16 he begins engaging in homosexual behavior. At age 17 he attains the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest achievement in Boy Scouting.

The following year, when he turns 18, suddenly he is expelled from the Scouts for the rest of his life. This is where this feeble attempt to serve two masters breaks down and self destructs.

Can you imagine the stories and headlines that would be printed and broadcast across this county?

This policy is incoherent.

Does the Boy Scouts of America believe homosexuality is incompatible with Scouting?

Yes or No.

If yes than stay with your values, your moral convictions. Let the chips fall where they will. New and better corporate sponsors will likely step up to support an organization who knows who they are.

If the answer is no, then redefine scouting and watch the mass exodus and allow a very small minority to redefine and ultimately destroy another institution in their attempt to affirm their sexual behavior.

If the BSA adopts this proposed policy, lawsuits will come in a flood and they will have stepped away from the protection of the 2000 Supreme Court ruling. What are they thinking?

Those seeking to redefine the Boy Scouts of America don't care about their 103-year tradition or their values. They care only about their singular self centered agenda.

If people saw a strong resolve to the values upon which Scouting was built, they would step up in mass to support them financially. Their needs would be met, their mission would be kept intact.

Jesus said, "No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money" (Matt. 6:24).

Yet the Boy Scouts are trying to do just that.

This situation reminds me of a scene several thousand years ago.

The Prophet Elijah had gone before the people who were conflicted morally and asked, "How long will you wavier between two opinions?"

He said, "If the Lord is God, follow Him, but if Baal is god than follow him."

The people's response was silence, they didn't respond because they were conflicted.

Elijah called on the people to determine whether Jehovah or Baal was the self existent, Supreme God, the Creator, Governor and judge of the world.

America, founded upon Judeo-Christian values and principles, is wavering between opinions on the most important moral issues of our day. This Boy Scout issue simply reflects our national moral conflict.

Because we have abandoned our moral values, we are losing our identity.

As Patrick Henry once said, "When people forget God, tyrants forge their chains."

It is written that a double minded man is unstable in all his ways (James 1:8).

When Elijah put the power of God to the test, His power consumed the offering with fire, while those serving a false god could not find any response from their false god.

I sincerely hope the Boy Scouts make the right decision.

Be Vigilant. Be Discerning. Be Prayerful. Be Active. Be Blessed.
