Abortionist Dr. Gosnell Claims "Spiritual Innocence" On Murder Charges

This is an example of where the religious left's "social justice" movement can take you.

Abortionist Dr. Kermit Gosnell, remembered for his "house of horrors" abortion clinic in Philadelphia, is telling ABC News, he is "spiritually innocent."

Gosnell, in prison and convicted on several counts of murder and manslaughter, says he believes he is in a "spiritual war" and he tells ABC he believes the other side won.

He says he reads his Bible daily.

ABC News reports, "He believes himself to be innocent ... in this larger spiritual sense. He believes he was performing a service for people that asked him. He believes he was a soldier at war with poverty. He has a sense of righteousness, that whatever rule he broke, it was worth it."

While this reflects a troubled and confused doctor, his thinking is rooted in what we know as the "social justice" movement of the religious left. It began in liberalism, it is now known as secular progressivism.

The "social justice" movement is advancing outreaches on a number of social fronts, driven by a common core belief.

Philadelphia magazine reporter Steve Volk, who spoke with Gosnell in exclusive interviews from prison where he is serving three life sentences, told ABC News that Gosnell is an "intelligent" and "charismatic" man who insists that he is not a "monster."

Volk, who covered Gosnell's trial and has been speaking and corresponding with him since he entered prison, said that the convicted killer sees abortion as sinful on some level, but a lesser sin than a child being born into a life of poverty.

"It's not as if he feels guilty about what he did. He sees the world as a dark place. He sees himself as having performed a noble function in society. For him, in a perfect, idealized world, it wouldn't be necessary," Volk said.

While in jail, he has been reading the Bible, perfecting his Spanish, exercising, and has been contacting charities, such as the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the Clinton Global Initiative, in attempts to be heard on issues like prison and justice reform.

"He believes that he gained insight into what it's like to be pushed into the system, without the capacity to explain himself," Volk said. "He believes if he could have spoken about his rationale for doing things, he wouldn't be in jail ... There is no anger, no desperation [in his voice.] He believes he was in a war, and that 'they' won."

What is "social justice"? Is it biblical?

The philosophy of "Social justice" was brought into the news cycle following President Obama's Inaugural Address in January.

CNN reported, "Obama Embraces Key Social Justice Movements In Inaugural Address."

They said, "Three places that have come to embody social justice movements in America."

Seneca Falls. Selma. Stonewall.

CNN published:

"We, the people, declare today that the most evident of truths – that all of us are created equal – is the star that guides us still; just as it guided our forebears through Seneca Falls, and Selma, and Stonewall; just as it guided all those men and women, sung and unsung, who left footprints along this great Mall, to hear a preacher say that we cannot walk alone; to hear a King proclaim that our individual freedom is inextricably bound to the freedom of every soul on Earth."

Obama equated watershed moments of women's rights and African-American rights to gay rights. No other president has even mentioned gay rights in an inaugural speech, let alone mentioned it alongside other movements that forged a more equal America.

Selma, of course, defines a moment in the legitimate "Civil Rights Movement" while Seneca Falls makes reference to the women's ERA movement and Stonewall to an incident at a homosexual bar in New York that ignited the homosexual rights movement.

The "social justice" movement embraces all of the above and more. It is deceptive because those who lead, use Scriptures, but have changed and redefined the meaning of words.

The founder of Westminster Seminary, J. Gresham Machen, in his book, "Christianity and Liberalism," written 100 years ago, said liberals claim to be Christians, they use all kinds of Christian vocabulary, but then redefine the words, giving them different meanings. He made the case that Christianity and Liberalism are actually 2 different religions.

At the core of the "social justice" movement is the socialist ideology. Scripture is used to affirm the ideology and the actions.

Socialism does not view people as individuals so much as it views people in classes---rich, poor, homosexual, female, privileged and unprivileged, etc. Socialism is all about classes.

This is where Dr. Gosnell is coming from and it's where current advocates of this movement are coming from. This is what leads him to tell ABC that aborting a baby, thus delivering the child from poverty, is less a sin than allowing the child to be born.

And Gosnell is not the only person who believes that. Many in the progressive movement do as well. They simply don't act on their beliefs as Gosnell did. They hire others to do it instead, like Planned Parenthood.

Biblical evangelicalism teaches that a person must be born again to be saved. Salvation, the Bible teaches, comes from accepting Jesus Christ as your personal Savior. It involves believing in your heart and confessing with your mouth that He is God, that He died for our sins and that He was resurrected from the dead. And can and will forgive our sins. From Him, by grace, we receive eternal life.

Salvation is personal.

Salvation, in the mind of the social justice advocate, has more to do with classes of people and less to do with personal responsibilities and a personal relationship with God.

Rev. Harry Ward was a Methodist minister for more than 20 years, then became one of the founders of the ACLU. Later, under oath, admitted that he was a communist all along.

With the social justice movement, as with Gosnell, the end most often justifies the means. This is likely why George Soros' money has been tied to social causes fronted by the religious left. It has been alleged that Jim Wallis and his Sojourners organization has received indirect funding from Soros.

Jim Wallis, a spiritual advisor to President Obama, and his Sojourners organization is the largest social justice advocacy organization in the country. They call it a ministry.

Wallis is also a former Chapter President of Students For A Democratic Society---a far left, sometimes violent, ideologically communist organization that operated in the 1960's.

Wallis, Brian McLaren, Rob Bell, Tony Campollo, Dan Kimball and Gordon MacDonnald are generally recognized as the loose knit leadership group of the religious left social justice movement in America.

The movement is active, divisive and deceptive.

Example.

A conference was recently held at Asbury United Methodist Church in Prairie Village, Kansas.

During the conference, 50 hand picked "missionaries" were chosen and will be sent out to advance their message after rigorous biblical training.

"The goal of the conference was to be training Christians who are in churches that don't currently support LGBT people and to give them the biblical tools and knowledge that they need to go back to their churches and have constructive, persuasive conversations with other believers on these issues."

They will use Scripture to make their case.

The mission of the convention is to "re-educate the church concerning gay activity." It also seeks to "reform" the church regarding biblical teaching on homosexuality.

Another example.

Last month, a professor and former dean of theology, who changed gender identities, argued that the Bible defends those who renounce their birth gender.

"I was dying last year because I couldn't live that way anymore. .. I tried to be the best Christian woman I could be and today I get to be the best Christian I can be and the best person I can be," Heather Ann Clements, former head of the theology department at Azusa Pacific University (APU) in Los Angeles, Calif., said in a sermon proposing a biblical defense of transgender identity. During that sermon, he came out as a transgender man, Heath Adam Ackley. Embracing his identity as a man, he claimed it empowered him to love God and others more.

There's more examples---many more.

This is an age of deception.

Paul, in his last letter to the Church before his death says, "But evil men and imposters will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived" in the end times (II Timothy 3:13)."

Be Vigilant. Be Discerning. Be Informed. Be Prayerful. Be Bold. Be Active. Be Blessed.
