Obama Calls Black Caucus To "Keep Marching" For More Gun Control

On Saturday, President Obama asked the Congressional Black Caucus to "Keep Marching" for more gun control.

And some of them will.

Others in Congress are also marching to this alien drummer.

Nancy Pelosi, on the one year anniversary of the Aurora, Colo. shootings, said this in her press release:
“In Congress, there can be no more fitting memorial to the lives lost in Aurora, in Newtown, and across the country than a concerted effort to enact commonsense gun safety legislation. We must uphold our oath to ‘protect and defend’ the constitution and all Americans by expanding background checks and keeping dangerous firearms out of the wrong hands.”

Yes, Pelosi is proposing that Congress should support the Constitution by radically violating it.
However, America is marching to a different cadence on the matter of guns and the Second Amendment.

Does anyone still believe guns alone kill people?

Some do. Most do not.

The President referenced recent murders in "my hometown" of Chicago as reason to march.

Most all of us know that 13 people were murdered in Chicago last week during a pickup basketball game. Chicago has been called by some recently, the murder capitol of the country. The President also mentioned the shootings in Washington DC and New York as reason to "march."

Gun control has now been merged onto the list of so-called "civil rights," joining homosexual "marriage," abortion, transgender surgery at government expense, etc., etc., etc., and a list of other behavioral "rights."

Do those who actually march in the legitimate civil rights movement feel good about seeing their cause co-opted and misused by abortion activists, homosexual activists and now gun control activists?

The Blacks I know, don't like it at all. Neither do I. Attaching these kinds of behavior and behavior control issues to the struggle for equal rights for Blacks is stunning, but many in the secular progressive movement do so and some, including some Blacks, heed the call. And march.

However, if we can step away from the President's racial overtones and appeal for a moment, the tide on stricter gun control has turned. The President and his progressive brethren can make the call to arms, or rather dis-arms, but the public is not reporting for duty.

Polls following the Navy Yard killing show Americans are increasingly not in support of gun control.

There are two reasons for this change of heart.

While the President took time to rail on Republicans for trying to defund his healthcare plan, (those who actually are doing so), he called on the Congressional Black Caucus to "Keep Marching " on gun control.

He failed to mention that Americans are actually marching in a different direction on this issue. He and the far left progressives are becoming an increasing minority in regards to guns in America.

There are 2 reasons. And there is a much bigger picture in play, which a French historian defined some years ago.

First, Americans are becoming very sensitive toward a president who continues to undermine the Constitution.

The Second Amendment rights regarding the personal ownership of guns is pretty clear to most Americans. While attempts have been made by A/G Eric Holder and others to revise the meaning of the Second Amendment, most Americans get its meaning.

Secondly, Americans are aware that confiscating guns does not translate to fewer people committing violent acts. People who desire to commit violence will find a gun or another means by which to commit violence.

Recent polls are very revealing in this regard.

On September 21, the Huffington Post revealed results from two polls taken after the Navy Yard shooting which show that support for more gun control continues to slide.

The two polls—one from HuffPo/YouGov and the other from Gallup—show less-than-majority support for gun control in response to questions that once garnered solid majority support.

Breitbart observes, "The HuffPo/YouGov poll shows only 48 percent of poll respondents supported more gun control. This is down from 60 percent support one month after the heinous crime at Sandy Hook Elementary. The Gallup poll shows a drop from 58 percent in favor of stricter gun control to only 49 percent."

They also note, "These polls were conducted after Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), President Obama, and others responded to the Navy Yard shooting with calls for more gun control."

The Huffington Post admits that overall support for gun control has been on a slide for 25 years, reviving only following school shootings like Columbine and Sandy Hook. However, even then, HuffPo says support for gun control only rose "temporarily."

There is also a bigger picture in play and it speaks to a much larger and inclusive issue---the attack on all our freedoms and our American way of life.

Alexis de Tocqueville, the French historian, defined how freedoms are lost:
"…After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp, and fashioned them at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a net-work of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided: men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting: such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates (weakens), extinguishes, and stupefies (unable to think clearly) a people, till each nation is reduced to be nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd…”

Progressives are obsessed, philosophically and ideologically, with transforming or "remaking" America.

President Obama came into office on that mantra. One hundred days after election to his first term he told a crowd in Missouri that the "remaking of America was well under way."

De Tocqueville has defined the problem we have in America today.

The Apostle Paul gave us the answer: "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will" (Romans 12:2 NIV).

Being transformed means the Christian's mind-set is reshaped by the Truth of God's Word, the power of His Holy Spirit and an eternal, biblical worldview.

This stands in direction contradiction to the evolving, man created truths of secular progressivism.

Be Vigilant. Be Transformed. Be Discerning. Be Prayerful. Be Blessed.
