Chick-fil-A Walks The Talk

Chick-fil-A is back in the news again, but just barely, because it's not about their deeply held biblical beliefs on marriage. This story is about "practicing" their deeply held biblical beliefs. Its about walking the talk.

And speaking of "talk," the homosexual activists are eerily silent about these particular religious beliefs. And so is the press.

Most of us are aware that the South---the Deep South, has been gripped by freezing weather, snow, ice, wind -- served up in sub zero temperatures.

Associated Press reported yesterday that helicopters have been sent out in an attempt to help people who are stranded in the weather.

Jessica Troy told AP, "We literally would go 5 feet and sit for 2 hours." It took her more than 16 hours to get home after work. Work to home is 12 miles.

Some school kids were forced to sleep on their bus and some had to remain at school.

The Deep South isn't used to or prepared for 4 to 8 inches of snow accompanied by freezing rain. And wind.

It causes you to wonder about so-called "global warming."

I suspect the idea of warming crossed more than one mind parked on the freeways.

Chick-fil-A is in the news again, but not so much as a year ago last summer and then again this past summer when the owner Dan Cathy said he and his family believe in traditional, biblical marriage because they believe in Christian, biblical values and principles.

So what are they up to now?

You will recall the outrage from homosexual activists and the media in 2012 when Dan Cathy, whose family owns the successful restaurant chain, said on the Ken Coleman Show, "I think we are inviting God's judgement on our nation when we shake our fist at Him and say 'we know better than you as to what constitutes marriage'. I pray God's mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude to think that we have the audacity to define what marriage is about."

Outrage spilled across the pages of the press while homosexual activists vowed to break the business nationwide.

A month later he said publicly, "We are very much supportive of the family---the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family owned business, and we are married to our first wives."

He said, "We are thankful we live in a country where we can operate on biblical principles."

More outrage. More threats.

Mike Huckabee and others announced a "Chick-fil-A Day" and millions went to the more than 1800 restaurants. The already very successful chain had record breaking income days.

Activists and the press have not broken the business, as they often do to smaller Christian owned businesses when the owner professes and acts on deeply held biblical beliefs and principles.

Again this past summer when the U.S. Supreme Court essentially struck down DOMA, Dan Cathy Tweeted, "Sad day for our nation; founding fathers would be ashamed of our gen. to abandon wisdom of the ages re: cornerstone of strong societies."

More attack. More outrage. More reporting. US News and World Report, the Atlanta-Journal Constitution and other newspapers shared the outrage saying, "It appears his views haven't changed...," apparently believing that if they applied enough pressure his beliefs would "evolve" as some have.

Not everyone's values are "evolving".

Back to the snow storm.

As tens of thousands of people were stranded in the storm, Chick-fil-A once again acted on their "deeply held beliefs."

The Chick-fil-A outside Birmingham, Alabama near Highway 280 rose to the occasion yesterday.

Manager Audrey Pitt told Fox News New York, "We cooked several hundred sandwiches and stood out on both sides of 280 and handed out the sandwiches to everyone we could get to---as long as we had food to give out."

They also handed out bottled water.

Fox New York says, "The staffers braved the falling snow and ice and Chick-fil-A refused to take a single penny for their sandwiches."

Fox says, "The meal was a gift---no strings attached."

They asked the employees why they did it.

Pitt said, "This company is based on taking care of people and loving people before you're worried about money or profit. We were just trying to follow the model that we've come to love. There is really nothing else we could have done but try to help people."

Why is the same media so silent? I don't see these headlines flaming across the nation's newspapers.

And where are the homosexual activists who have been calling the Cathy family haters and bigots, while unsuccessfully trying to break the back of their restaurant chain?

It appears the Cathy family are not haters at all. It is also clear that everyone is not "evolving" on the definition of marriage and family. Or other biblical principles.

The Cathy family stands for biblical principles in regard to marriage and family, and in regard to compassion.

They walk the talk.

They will be opening a Chick-fil-A in North Seattle near North Gate Mall sometime this summer. Seattle officials, including newly elected Mayor Murray, have promised publicly to do everything they can to stop Chick-fil-A, although they have conceded there is not much they can do because the site is properly zoned.

I'll keep you posted as to when they will open.

Other small business owners are also walking the talk and being labeled just as the Cathy family has been labeled.

They are also facing the same kind of outrage and attack because of their biblical beliefs. Arlene's Flower and Gift in Richland has been taken on by the State because her conscience would not allow her to do a so-called "homosexual wedding."

A cake shop in Gresham, Oregon has been closed as a result of picketing and attacks by homosexual activists. The state has now announced they will likely impose significant fines on the young couple who owned the bakery and acted on their beliefs.

Photographers are being sued because they can't do homosexual "weddings" due to their biblical beliefs.

The Stormans family in Olympia have refused to carry abortion pills---the day after pills, in their pharmacy. Because of their deeply held biblical beliefs they have been dragged through court for the past several years at a personal cost of more than a half million dollars, as a result of the state trying to force them to violate their conscience.

If possible, seek out these businesses, take your business to them as much as possible.

Remember them in prayer.

Be Prayerful. Be Vigilant. Be Discerning. Be Bold. Be Pro-Active. Be Blessed.

  1. Yeah, but they probably spiked the sandwiches with some sort of Jesus-flavored heterosexuality-inducing drug. Because... H8!

  2. If the city of Seattle does not want Chick-Fil-A, perhaps Chick-Fil-A should open just outside Seattle city limits, then Seattle does not get tax revenue from the business. Walmart did this when Chicago would not allow them to open, so they opened just outside Chicago city limits and Chicago lost that revenue.

  3. Global warming comment -- good warming IS accompanied by this weather behavior. I work as an adjunct faculty member within the university research community. The good news from your comment is that it's a signal of the communication work still greatly needed to transfer knowledge from scientists to the lay population in order to fully understand what global warming looks like as it occurs. Climate change is a better descriptor than the media-coined language of global warming. The warming at the poles is directly related to the severe weather changes now occurring.

  4. Let's see, they got huge national coverage on fox news, national coverage all over talk radio, coverage on every right wing blog, etc. - I'd say it was $300 very well spent.

Oh and 9:28 is right, these extreme weather swings were predicted as a symptom of climate change.

  5. The sun is rising a little earlier each morning. I declare that to is climate change.

  6. Thank you Gary. Very inspiring. Blessings.

  7. It's ironic that Gary is trumpeting Chick-fil-A's good deeds and that Chick-fil-A is talking to the press about it, given Matthew 6:1-4:

“Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven."

“Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you."

    1. It was a marketing stunt, pure and simple. And a very good one.

    2. What makes you think Chik-Fil-A sought out the publicity? More likely one of the stranded people sent a news tip to the local TV station. Probably more than one, but Fox would be the most likely to cover it.

    3. Joel, why does your question even matter? I see "Christians" at Chick-Fil-A broadcasting their good deeds on the news and TV, and I see the "Christian" who writes this blog lamenting the fact that this trumpet-blowing of good "Christian" deeds is not enough. We need more trumpet-blowing! All we're missing is prime-time documentary about this event to really show everyone on the planet the good deeds these Christians are doing.

For a group of people who claim to adhere to the "absolute truths" of the Bible, they seem to have thrown this one out the window when it didn't suit their needs.

    4. 8:41

No one announced anything, they just took the food out there. As the following post quoted, we are to let our light shine. All you see is a sad.

      Craig in Lacey

  8. 1:23 "Let your light so shine before others that they will see your good works and glorify your father which is in Heaven" Matt. 5:16 Jesus

  9. Adjunct faculty member-Why did you change the name from global warming to "climate change" after scientists began confirming the earth is in a cooling cycle rather than a warming cycle? The earth has been doing this for a very long time, long before you, Al Gore and the others seeking grants for study and green investment dollars were here. Give me a break.

    1. I'm not 'adjunt faculty', but you post deserves answering -

The term 'climate change' is less confusing to people who don't understand that one consequence of global warming will be extreme events at both ends of the warm-cold spectrum.

And the planet is warming, not cooling, as summarized in this little piece from the conservative Forbes magazine.

"In fact, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, “All of the top ten warmest years in the record have occurred since the last major El NiƱo event, in 1998.” What’s more, according to NOAA, “Since 1976, every year including 2012 has had an annual temperature above the long-term average.” In fact the two warmest years on record are 2005 and 2010, and the years between 2000 and 2010 had higher average temperatures than the years between 1990 and 1999."

I trust NASA and NOAA more than the scientists working for oil & coal companies.

  10. Speaking of irony. It's interesting that the nobility of the tolerant even hate the people who like the people they hate.

  11. I want Chic-fil-A.
    Renton, WA

  12. It's religious persecution against Chick-fil-A by a government which is supposed to support and defend the constitution.

  13. We should trust that he who multiplied the bread that fed the five thousand, will also take care of the climate, as he has been doing. We need more people who partake of the bread of life in government and less of those who use people any way they can imagine, for whatever selfish gain they desire.

Out of the Lord's compassion there was more than enough to go around back then and he hasn't changed.

People have been buying into a promise of change, as if whatever would change would be for the better, and yet we know, it is time for change.

It's important to regulate as necessary to protect the environment in responsible, legitimate ways that are reasonable and fair, and not be making changes out of fear that the climate is or will soon be out of control. We ought to trust him who is in control of the world's climate, and be for the things he is for, and against the things he is against.

    1. YEAH FOR CHICK-FIL-A.....not only are you doing good for the people, for whatever the reason, you need to be applauded. Also, I tasted Chick-fil-A in Ca. last Fall and I am so excited to have one in the area.....the best chickin I have ever tasted....If Seattle doesn't want you come over Kenmore-Bothell area then I won't have to go as far. :) Thanks for doing what is right for the people and in the eyes of God....
