Johns Hopkins' Head of Psychiatry: "Transgender Is Mental Disorder"

Dr. Paul R. McHugh, former psychiatrist-in-chief, now Distinguished Service Professor of Psychiatry at Johns Hopkins Hospital, says, "transgenderism is a mental disorder" that merits treatment, "sex change is biologically impossible, and that people doing sexual reassignment surgery are collaborating with and promoting a mental disorder."

He explains why Johns Hopkins Hospital has stopped doing sex-reassignment surgery.

And says the actions of "misguided doctors" who administer "puberty-delaying hormones to render later sex change surgeries onerous...comes close to child abuse."

Every parent and grandparent---listen up.

Dr. Paul R. McHugh is both distinguished in the medical field and highly respected among his peers.

He has written 6 books and at least 125 peer-reviewed medical articles.

He is also deeply concerned about the trends in so-called "gender-identity."

The June 9, 2014 issue of TIME Magazine featured transgenderism on its cover and predicted "Nearly a year after the Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriage [striking down DOMA] another social movement is poised to challenge deeply held cultural beliefs."

Dr. McHughs responded, not from the point of view of "deeply held cultural beliefs," but from well established medical science.

His article in the Wall Street Journal was titled, "Transgender Surgery Isn't The Solution."

The doctor said "policy makers and the media are doing no favors either to the public or the transgendered by treating their confusions as a right in need of defending rather than as a mental disorder that deserves understanding, treatment and prevention."

He said this confusion qualifies as a "mental disorder" in 2 ways: "The first is that the idea of sex misalignment is simply mistaken---it does not correspond with physical reality. The second is that it can lead to grim psychological outcomes."

"The transgendered suffer a disorder of 'assumption', like those in other disorders familiar to psychiatrists," he says.

He says the transgendered suffer a disordered assumption that the individual differs from what seems given in nature---namely maleness and femaleness. This, the doctor says, is similar to those assumptions associated with anorexia and bulimia nervosa where people believe they are dangerously overweight.

While transgendered people hold these "beliefs" about gender in their minds because of "feelings" often related to psycho-social conflicts or problems that they believe will be resolved by changing genders.

In their minds, the doctor says, this cannot be challenged.

This is why, the doctor notes, states are passing laws barring psychiatrists, even with parental permission, "from striving to restore natural gender feelings to a transgender minor."

He says, "And so at Johns Hopkins we stopped doing sex reassignment surgery, since producing a 'satisfied' but still troubled patient seemed an inadequate reason for surgically amputating normal organs."

He expresses deep concern regarding the move, with encouragement from the media, pop culture and sex education in public schools, toward working with very young children who seem to want to imitate the opposite sex sometimes.

He is strongly warning against enabling or encouraging certain subgroups of the transgendered, "such as young people susceptible to suggestion from 'everything is normal' sex education" and the school's "diversity counselors" who "like 'cult leaders' may encourage these young people to distance themselves from their families and offer advice on rebutting arguments against having transgender surgery."

The doctor warns against administering "puberty-delaying hormones to render later sex-change surgeries less onerous, because these drugs stunt the child's growth and risk causing sterility."

These actions "come close to child abuse," he says.

He also notes that 80% of those kids will "abandon their confusion and grow naturally into adult life if untreated..." They simply "loose those feelings," he says.

"Sex change is biologically impossible," the highly respected doctor says. "People who undergo sex-reassignment surgery do not change from men to women or vice versa. Rather, they become feminized men or masculinized women. Claiming that this is a civil-rights matter and encouraging surgical intervention is in reality to collaborate with and promote a mental disorder," he writes.

He is not standing alone on these matters. Vanderbuilt University and London's Portman Clinic of Children are expressing the same medical beliefs.

This week Fox Business News host, Neil Cavuto, asked journalist Charles Payne what he thought about the Bruce Jenner news that is dominating the news this week.

Payne said, "It's the era that we're living in."

Cavuto looked straight into the camera and said, "Rome. Final Days."

In the final days of Rome, Paul wrote to the Christians living in the chaotic collapsing culture of what had been "The Roman Empire."

He said, "I'm not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation....since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen....although they knew God, they did not know Him as God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were they thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened...Professing to be wise, they became fools...exchanged the truth of God for the lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator..." (Romans 1).

Continuing, he wrote in Romans 12: "...present your bodies..a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God..."

"And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God."

Paul also included this in the same letter. Don't worry about what's going on in the culture: "Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit (15:13).

Be Not Conformed. Be Hopeful. Be Informed. Be Prayerful. Be Blessed.
