ABC's program "Scandal" aired an episode last Thursday that highlighted the effort by Christians and conservatives to defund Planned Parenthood---showing the main character getting an abortion as the sound track featured Aretha Franklin and choir singing "Silent Night.'
The show closed by playing "Ave Maria."
The episode also shows a Republican senator from Virginia and the state's former First Lady filibustering a spending bill in the Senate over Planned Parenthood funding which has been made discretionary, which means it can be eliminated at any time.
Millions watched.
The scene opens by showing Olivia Pope--- lead character in the weekly show--- who has conceived a child with the President of the United States, her feet in stirrups. An abortionist grabs her tool and turns on the suction. Olivia's hands grab the bed rail while the abortionist proceeds with the abortion.
The soundtrack of Aretha Franklin with a gospel choir singing "Silent Night" plays softly in the background.
While the abortion takes place, her father is saying in a voiceover, "Family is a burden...a pressure point, soft tissue, an illness, an antidote to greatness. You think you're better off with people who rely on you, depend on you, but you're wrong, because you will inevitably end up needing them, which makes you weak, pliable. Family doesn't complete you. It destroys you."
When the abortion is complete, the choir sings "Hallelujah."
Will this kind of blasphemy cause the religious left to at least pause in their support of redefining marriage and aborting unwanted babies---while demanding open borders in the name of Christian compassion?
Will it cause conservative Christians to at least stand for righteousness?
I pray so.
People Magazine says the program was "cheered by some fans and Planned Parenthood as a bold prime time statement" but was "slammed by conservative Media Research Council as showing 'Hollywood's moral depravity on full display'."
The episode also followed Republican Sen. Mellie Grant as she filibustered against a bill to make Planned Parenthood funding discretionary.
Planned Parenthood's president Cecile Richards released a statement: "Tonight, the millions of people who tune into "Scandal" every Thursday night learned that our rights to reproductive health care are under attack. Never one to shy away from critical issues, Shonda Rimes used her platform to tell the world that if Planned Parenthood lost funding for contraception counseling, STI testing, cancer screenings and safe, legal abortion---millions of people would suffer."
PP continued: "We just hope those in Congress---and throughout the nation---who are steadfast on rolling the clock back on reproductive health care access are taking note."
We are taking note Ms. Richards.
We note that your words are deceptive in presenting Planned Parenthood as anything other than the face of evil itself. It is first and foremost an abortion operation.
We also note that your colleagues in the entertainment industry hold nothing sacred except the nation's largest abortion operation---even at the expense of blaspheming the Virgin Birth of Jesus Christ.
In the episode, the actor playing the role of Senator Mellie Grant is telling the Senate, "You say we're not defunding Planned Parenthood, and technically you're right, but by making the money discretionary, you give the people in this room power to say, 'You know what? We're a little over budget this year. How about we don't give that little ladies' organization the full amount they're asking for'."
The people in "this room" already have the power to defund Planned Parenthood. Pro-life citizens are looking for politicians who will have the guts to actually do to it once elected---not just promise the folks back home they will do it.
The character playing Sen. Grant also said, "If this process of reducing the money flow to Planned Parenthood would continue...before you know it, Planned Parenthood no longer exists."
This is the prayer of millions of Americans, Senator---this is our prayer.
The father's words defining children and family is most revealing. In defining family as something that destroys, rather than completing an individual is a profile of much of the thinking of the far left secular progressive.
That is why, in their mind, marriage can be redefined to mean anything one wants it to be---and family is merely a social group of people. And life? It's expendable, not sanctified---all a matter of personal choice.
As the program ends, the main character, "Olivia Pope," does not tell the president about the abortion, but treats herself to a glass of wine while "Ave Maria" plays in the background.
God help us.
