FBI Director To Congress: "What Do You Mean By 'Wrong'"

Representative Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) and chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee asked FBI Director James Comey yesterday, "Did former Sec. of State Hillary Clinton break the law---did she lie to the FBI---did she lie under oath---did she do anything wrong?"

FBI Director James Comey replied, "And what do you mean by wrong?"

Reminding me of Hillary's husband speaking under oath following his sexual relationship with Monica Lewinsky--- President Clinton said, "It depends upon what the meaning of the word "is", is."

Secular progressivism.

So-called relative truth.


Chaffetz responded, "It's self evident."

Truth is self evident.

Comey defended himself: "Well I'm a lawyer and I'm an investigator and I'm, I hope, a normal human being."

Did he mean he's normal and can't distinguish between right and wrong? Is that some kind of new normal?

Is he really suggesting it's normal not to be able to distinguish between right and wrong?

Before my far left friends who read this column begin to pound their keys, I know he was talking about the technicalities of the law. Chaffetz covered that as well. He promised the director he would have his needed "referral" from Congress within hours, releasing the director to look at such things as whether Hillary lied under oath, etc.

This exchange, however, goes to the heart of what I believe is the real problem with Hillary and more so in our country and culture today.

Secular progressivism, and relativism, stands on a platform of changing truth---fluidity, and is played out with word games---parsing words. Truth is always changing---the meaning of words is always being redefined, and therefore there is no accountability because truth is subjective--- there are no absolutes.

Do you remember Hillary's husband being impeached in the late 1990s?

Hillary's husband President Bill Clinton, contending under oath, "There's nothing going on between us," in regard to Monica Lewinsky, then going on to say, "It depends upon what the meaning of the word 'is', is."

If you need a refresher, look at this YouTube video, and this one. Or this one. Some of the questioning is sexual and may be offensive, but it was on television all over the world at the time.

And Bill's defense of himself in the 1990s, is an echo of the defense being offered now on behalf of Hillary.

Comey scoffed at the question of "gross negligence in handling classified material" as being a criminal act, saying, "No reasonable prosecutor would bring the second case in a hundred years" in reference to a 1917 law that criminalizes such conduct.

Does he have the right or authority to decide that a federal law is too old to be relevant?

This is the legacy of the Obama administration.

In the world of secular progressive relativism, things that are "old" are not relevant and should be disposed with: Whether it's this 1917 law, the Constitution, The Second Amendment, the Ten Commandments, traditional marriage, sexual identity---whatever. It doesn't matter.

This matter with Hillary will continue because it is obviously politically charged, but it also shines a light on a deeply divided nation.

While it appears our nation is deeply divided politically, the political divide merely reflects the spiritual divide and its corresponding intellectual divide.

Our individual worldview.

The most burning issue of our day is whether America is a nation under God, based on the Bible and Judeo-Christian principles, or a secular nation without fixed moral absolutes that function independent of any god other than human reason and desire.

For more than 150 years America functioned on our founding principles which were based on biblical truth---absolutes.

As so-called "progressive" ideology has replaced absolute biblical principles of right and wrong---good and evil---our culture has begun to spiral downward.

This has negatively affected every aspect of public life in America: education, politics, the economy, family, marriage and the church.

The institutions of our society are being "re-made"; crime is out of control in most major cities, our quality of life is diminished, the value of life is diminished, and family and marriage are being "redefined" to become something they never were, nor were intended to be in more than 5,000 years of human history.

The mind of the individual is no longer given to the creativity the Creator intended, but is being conformed to a new and "progressive" world whose moral dictates come through moral relativism and political correctness led by the unbridled personal ambition of those who advocate "progress" while seizing control of power, living above the law and amassing ill-begotten personal wealth.

Mr. and Mrs. Clinton represent this brave new world. But they and their colleagues are not solely responsible for it. They are merely exploiting it.

The Christian church has in too many cases stood quietly by, trying to "relate" to a world that is going to Hell---fearful of defining the Truth that sets people free.

And in trying to make the Bible "relevant", has disguised the power of the gospel to where the world makes no distinction between the message of the Bible and the message of the culture.

The framers of our Constitution believed that it could not survive a people who did not believe in God or His laws.

Whether Anglican or Pilgrim, Puritan or Baptist, Presbyterian, Catholic, or Quaker, our forefathers knew full well those biblical passages that describe a sinful, fallen nature of man.

The balance of power between people and government, between state and federal governments, and between legislative, executive and judicial branches of government bears eloquent testimony to the Founding Father's belief in sinful man who should not be entrusted with too much power.

Isaiah understood the issue 2,800 years ago, when he wrote, "Woe to those who call evil good and good evil. Who put darkness for light and light for darkness. Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter" (5:20).

The Hillary Clinton matter and others like it are bringing the real problem in our culture into the light of day in powerful ways---ways that is informing people who would have otherwise been uninformed.

This is a time to stand for biblical values, not sit; a time to speak not be silent; a time to act, not grow weary.

America hangs in the balances.
