Founding Fathers In Peril?

Yesterday Laura Ingraham raised the question of how far this so-called anti-racist movement will go, wondering out loud if Jefferson's Monticello and Washington's Mt. Vernon will go next.

General George Washington, his subordinate "Light House Larry" Lee, father of Robert E. Lee, Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe and Andrew Jackson were all slave owners---5 of our first 7 presidents.

Will Mt. Rushmore be next?


Laura Ingraham told Fox News, "This is not about racial healing or racial unity when you see property being destroyed...That's not what it's about. It's about the eradication of history and an acknowledgment that we had really difficult, horrible moments in our country's history that we were able to overcome. And at the same time, we do give respect the dead. I mean, all of our war dead. We respect them."

Continuing, she said, "And I think, when you see people who have no idea, it seems, about the history of this country, just roundly denouncing anyone who had any connection to the South, we're in precarious times."

"I mean, how long before we see the Workers Party, as you saw them yesterday, the Communist Party of the United States was represented there in Durham," she said. And, "They had big banners. They were marching down the streets. How long before they show up at Monticello, where I spent three years in law school at Charlottesville in Virginia? How long before they show up at Mount Vernon?"

Yesterday, Pat Buchanan, a former White House Communications Director for President Reagan and an advisor to Presidents Nixon and George H. W.Bush, asked the question, "How did we get here, and where are we going?"

While I don't agree with some of what Buchanan is saying, he raises some serious considerations.

He says before James Alex Fields ran down the protesters, and then backed up, running down more, what was happening seemed like a bloody brawl between extremists on both sides of the issue of whether Robert E. Lee's statue should be removed from Emancipation Park, formerly Lee Park.

With the death of Heather Heyer, the brawl was elevated to a moral issue, he says.

Buchanan notes that in "June of 2015, 21-year-old Dylann Roof gunned down nine Christians at an evening Bible study in Charleston's Emanuel AME Church. A review of Roof's selfies and web site showed him posing with the Confederate battle flag."

He says Gov. Nikki Haley then pivoted and called for the removal of the battle flag from the Confederate war Memorial on the State House Grounds as a "deeply offensive symbol of a brutally offensive past."

This ignited a national clamor to purge all statues that lionize Confederate soldiers and statesman. Buchanan then offers a long list of American Founders and Champions who are now on the hit list---noting that the history of our civilization is rooted in the accomplishments of white men from Europe.

In the brave new world of the progressives, our country is becoming, he says "a land where all races, tribes, creeds, and cultures congregate, all are treated equally, and all move ever closer to an equality of results through the regular redistribution of opportunity, wealth, and power."

"We are going to become the first 'Universal Nation'," he says.

There is no question that America stands at a very critical juncture.

A few of things to consider.

1. James Alex Fields, the driver who rammed into the crowd killing Heather Heyer and injuring 19 others, is characterized generally by the press as someone who is simply obsessed with the White Supremacy movement. But to be sure he comes from a broken, dysfunctional environment. To their credit, New York Magazine reported some of the difficulties he faced growing up.

We have also learned that Fields was diagnosed with schizophrenia at an early age and had been given antipsychotic drugs. It is not clear if he was still taking them.

2. The Southern Poverty Law Center is reporting that Jason Kessler, the organizer of last Saturday's white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, was apparently a former Occupy Wall Street activist and supporter of Barack Obama.

Breitbart News notes that it's significant that SPLC would even disclose the connection between Kessler and Obama and the progressive Left because they are consistently biased toward the Left. You will recall, it is the SPLC that consistently places Christian organizations such as Family Research Council, American Family Association, and others on their "terrorist" or "hate" lists because they oppose same-sex "marriage" and other anti-biblical behavior.

So what is lost in much, if not most of the thousands of news stories about the cultural war in America is the fact that the driver of the car that ran down and killed 1 woman and injured 19 others is a schizophrenic as well as a white supremacist. A very troubled young man.

Kessler, the organizer of the white supremacist protest, was formerly an "Occupy" activist on behalf of the far Left Media Matters, Black Lives Matter and their benefactors Nancy Pelosi, Barack Obama and many Democrats who endorsed the Occupy movement.

President Trump said again late yesterday afternoon that he still believes "there's blame on both sides" criticizing the "alt-left" for their role, even as emerging facts are supporting his claims.

What must be made clear is that this developing cultural and moral tragedy will not be resolved by political leaders---regardless of their personal biases and beliefs.

This is a spiritual problem that can only be resolved by embracing biblical truth.

A reuniting of our country can only come through the gospel of Jesus Christ and the Word of God.

Sam Rohrer, head of the Pastor's Network said this earlier this week:

“Is unity again achievable? The answer is yes. But, for some, even this statement may be dividing—yet it is nonetheless the truth. Unity is not the goal but a by-product. Unity never demands full agreement in all things by all people. Yet what unity does demand is an agreement on a common body of truth. In the United States, that common body of truth was found in the Judeo-Christian scriptures, where there is God who created life and then ‘endowed certain unalienable rights’ to the people, who ‘under God’ agree with God that He is perfect; that mankind is sinful and not naturally good.

“But that redemption and healing through faith in Jesus Christ alone can transform the mind and the heart, and heal families, communities and the nation. No one race, no one color, no one nationality has a claim to this truth. Yet, true equality, true justice and true unity can, in fact, result when people from all walks of life agree with God on these truths.

“Any nation or people who believes these things can experience peace, security and unity. Our nation once did—not ever perfect, of course—but overwhelmingly embraced this view, and God blessed it as no nation ever before it. We will now, in this time of increasing need, either look to God and agree with Him and do what He says and regain the freedom we so love, or we will look to ourselves, to government or to some man or woman and descend into the abyss of slavery and totalitarianism. There is no other choice.”
