Today's Election in Alabama Is Bigger Than Alabama

The state of Alabama is voting today to fill the Senate seat vacated when Senator Jeff Sessions was appointed US Attorney General by President Trump.

Sarah Palin and other high-profile supporters of Trump are not, however, supporting the candidate President Trump endorsed a while back---they are supporting Judge Roy Moore---a devout conservative Christian.

Today's Alabama election reflects something bigger than Alabama---the outcome will be revealing.

And to those who think the NFL can't do anything to curb the craziness at their football games---think again.

Yesterday I noticed several "sports experts" saying the NFL can't do anything about the rebellious protests of players as they continue to dishonor our flag and our country.
Take a look at these 9 player related issues the NFL has inserted themselves into, then tell me they could not stop the disrespect toward our flag and country if they were motivated to do so.
Last Friday---before this past weekend's fiasco---34% of American adults told a Rasmussen Survey they are now less likely to watch football on television because of the growing number of protests by players on the field.

Sarah Palin told Breitbart News the movement that elected President Trump is now firmly behind Judge Roy Moore in Alabama.

Several weeks ago, President Trump endorsed the Republican establishment backed candidate Luther Strange.

The so-called "mainstream media" are doing their best to cast this as a break by Palin and other high-profile conservatives in their support of Trump.

It isn't. But it is something the media doesn't understand---or at least refuses to report.

This is an example of American people---particularly Christians and conservatives, thinking for themselves---and acting on their personal beliefs.

Oh, my.

This past weekend, thinking people expressed their disgust toward multimillionaire football players who disgrace our flag and our country---and the NFL who enables them.

The votes on football will be counted as we watch the attendance and viewership over the next few weeks.

The votes in Alabama will be counted tonight.

Why would President Trump endorse an establishment Republican when Paul Ryan, Mitch McConnell and others of the Republican hierarchy show little to no support for him in his attempt to keep his campaign promises to the American people?

I personally think he was misled or misinformed and made a hasty decision. But who knows?

Sarah Palin told Breitbart:

This movement has been rumbling underground for so many years. We finally, during the last presidential election, had a spokesperson for what it was we had been saying and thinking and that was ‘put America first.’ Put America first. A lot of that movement, for Republicans, has to do with the battle against the Republican Party hierarchy that seems more concerned about party politics and positions—their own titles—versus what’s best for their own constituents. I’ve been fighting that since I was 18 years old and first registered to vote against the Republican Party in my own state, bless their hearts, running against them when they were not believing in smaller, smarter government and they weren't exercising Reaganomics. Running against them, winning, and it’s helpful to see it wasn’t just little old Wasilla, Alaska, that had those types of battles. Those battles have been going on all across this country, and finally enough people stood up and said ‘enough is enough’ and that’s the movement. It’s all good, it’s all positive. It’s all energetic.

Palin said, "Like Steve Bannon has said: 'Did anybody think they were going to give up power easily or gently? No.. It's a battle'."

It is. It's not only a political battle, but more importantly, a spiritual battle. I'll come back to that in a moment.

Palin says, "We can win this war," this is what we need, the happy warriors who are in it for the right reason. They're in it for a reason, not just a season and not just a business for them. They have a servant's heart that we need in government."

"Happy warriors" is a term that has been attached to people like Steve Bannon and others who have joined the political battle, because they believe it is the right thing to do, rather than for personal gain.

Palin says Judge Moore has the right people on his side in Washington DC---and he does.

Informed Christian and conservative voters are backing Judge Moore. They love him.

You will recall it was Judge Roy Moore who was politically cut down by "establishment Republicans" and secular Left progressives after he refused to remove the Ten Commandments from his courtroom.

Judge Moore, in the spirit of those who founded this country, has laid his career and his reputation on the line for what he believes. He will do the same if he is elected to the Senate in the Alabama election today.

This is the spear, as they say, in the battle for the soul of America.

And it isn't only Palin who is saying this. Millions of Christians and conservatives are awakening to the need to take a stand for what they believe, as evidenced in our last election.

Yet millions more are uninformed politically and spiritually.

Politically

A new survey from the Annenberg Public Policy Center reveals a shocking lack of knowledge as it pertains to US politics among the general public.

Their recent survey of American adults shows that only about 25% were able to name the 3 branches of the federal government, while 37% couldn't name a single right protected by the First Amendment.

The 3 branches are executive, legislative and judicial. Now you are more informed than 75% of your friends.

Most telling may be that 33% of Americans could not name a single federal branch of government.

It was Thomas Jefferson who said, "If a nation expects to be ignorant and free...it expects what never has been and never will be."

The purpose of this ministry is to inform, and hopefully inspire action.

Spiritually

Another Founding Father, Patrick Henry, said, "When a nation forgets God, tyrants forge their chains."

Over the past 6 decades, our nation has "forgotten God" by removing Him and all related to Him from nearly all public discourse.

The Church has allowed this to happen through its silence.

Its silence has been veiled behind the notion (or excuse) that "impartiality" in political issues would allow the church to be more effective in reaching people for Christ.

While "preaching the gospel to all the world" is the Great Commission of the church, preaching the gospel and speaking to a decaying culture is not mutually exclusive.

The Church can, and must, do both. If not the Church, who will speak the Truth?

G.K. Chesterton said, "Impartiality is a pompous name for indifference, which is an elegant name for ignorance."

Over the last 6 to 10 decades, secularism in America has triumphed so spectacularly that secularists have dominated the cultural mountain tops of influence: business, government, media, arts and entertainment, education, the family, and religion.

Secularists have created a foundation that is the antithesis to those foundations laid by our Founders.

While being informed politically is the spear that can help win the political battle that Palin spoke of, the tip of the spear is the spiritual battle in our country.

The Apostle Paul reminded us (Ephesians 6:12), " For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places."

Spiritual renewal will precede political renewal.

That's essentially what the Alabama election is about today, and I believe that's what the Church is being called to be about in our day.

Be Informed. Be Vigilant. Be Discerning. Be Prayerful. Be Active.
