Left vs Trump--The New Civil War

Tales of a "deep state" or "shadow presidency" at work against President Trump had surfaced even before he was inaugurated.

Not being given to extreme conspiratorial tales, I have watched this with caution.

Rep. Jim Jordan, a Republican from Ohio, said this week he believes a powerful plan had been in place to prevent Mr. Trump from reaching the White House even before his election.

Other lawmakers agree. So do I.

This is a summary of a Washington Times story on the subject and various other sources I have read on the matter.

The Washington Times reports that Rep. Jordan told Fox News, "They [the Left] were putting together a plan to stop Donald Trump. I think it's amazing that the Democrats were against him, Republican establishment was against him and the mainstream press---and now I believe the FBI and the justice Department were against him. Everything points to the fact that there was an orchestrated plan to prevent Donald Trump from being the next President of the United States."

Even before President Trump took office on January 20 of this year, far Left political commentator Bill Moyers suggested that Hillary Clinton stage her own inaugural address---advising Democrats to "prepare by joining together as a movement and creating the constituency of what will be, in effect, a shadow government--"one that will serve to track and respond to every single bad action undertaken by the Trump administration and its monolithic Congress."

GQ Magazine published an article on Inauguration Day, saying, "Barack Obama is preparing for his third term."

Barack Obama has recently been traveling the world giving speeches. While this is not uncommon for former presidents, his speeches have carried a different tone than other former presidents---and he has not hesitated to criticize America's new direction under the new president.

The Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported recently that "Democrats are eager for Barack Obama to play the role of shadow president, offering direction to Americans who feel they lost their political compass the day Trump was elected."

Matthew Vadum, with Front Page Magazine, says his investigative work shows that "Former President Obama is waging war against the Trump Administration through his generously funded agitation outfit, Organizing for Action, to defend his monumentally destructive record of failure and violent polarization. It is a chilling reminder that the increasingly aggressive, in-your-face Left in this country is on the march."

Chris Farrell with Judicial Watch---the organization that has been responsible for forcing the government to release certain documents that were previously unknown to the public---says, "The soft coup against the Trump administration continues."

He said, "Soft coups include actions by senior government officials refusing to carry out their roles and critical tasks, or otherwise acting in opposition to the letter or spirit of law to diminish or remove de facto power from those who otherwise would legally wield it."

Rush Limbaugh told his audience of about 10 million people Tuesday that the gains President Trump is making in the economy are "transformational and phenomenal," but to "look at the forces arrayed against the president---and look at the projection of power the Left has put together and used against this administration---then you measure what he has gotten done. I would be hard pressed to name any other president who could pull off as much as Trump has pulled off with this kind of opposition."

He said, "No previous president has been targeted for destruction by what we call the deep state, the administrative, unelected bureaucracy of this country---staffed by career leftists, socialists, liberals, you name it---working in consort with the drive-by media."

Limbaugh said, "There isn't a single president in our lifetimes you could name who could have withstood and overcome and triumphed on so much against this kind of opposition."

Many of the things the president has accomplished this year are related to promises he made to the evangelical community.

There's much more, but you get it---there really is an organized effort to destroy the presidency of Donald Trump.

He is polarizing---some people like him--- some don't, but few are "undecided."

However, I believe this runs much deeper than personalities. And it runs much deeper than politics.

The only way the media knows how to define this Civil War is as a political one.

It is not primarily political. While it certainly is a culture war---it is primarily a spiritual war.

President Lincoln's Civil War was fought over a deeply held moral belief: One man cannot own another man.

President Trump's Civil War is being fought over an entire belief system---conservative vs progressive, a biblical worldview vs a secular worldview. And which one will prevail in America.

President Lincoln, in his famous "House Divided" speech, paraphrased Jesus' words which are recorded in all three synoptic gospels:

"A house divided against itself cannot stand. I believe this government can not endure, permanently half slave and half free. I do not expect the Union to be dissolved---I do not expect the house to fall---but I do expect it will cease to be divided. It will become all one thing, or all the other."

Our house is once again divided. It is not primarily a difference of opinion or political view. It is a polarized absolute belief about who God is, the significance of His word--the Bible, and our relationship to His revelation.

The fact is, some moral standard will dominate society. Those who point to Christianity and say we need to eliminate religion from the public square are not looking to substitute it with a non-religious expression. The acceptance of abortion, homosexual "marriage", the removal of the Ten Commandments and deconstruction of the traditional family is simply advocacy for a different religious (faith) expression.

This war is calling on all biblical believers to stand strong in the faith. And do so publicly. Stand against the assault on biblical morality and religious freedom.

But equally important---be sure the public knows what you stand for. Share the life-changing, transformational gospel of Jesus Christ with those who are walking in the darkness.

The spiritual dimension of this war is more important than the political one. And remember:

Ephesians 6:12
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

Be Informed. Be Discerning. Be Bold. Be Prayerful. Be Faithful.
