University Chooses Discrimination Over Education---and Kills the Chicken

Rider University recently surveyed students and asked which fast food restaurant they would like to bring on campus.

A lesson in democracy.

A teaching moment.

However, the students voted for a well known, highly successful restaurant chain the school doesn't like, so the University said, "no." Canceled the vote.

A lesson in discrimination...and indoctrination. And dictatorial socialism.

Joseph Stalin is often quoted as saying:

"It is enough that the people know there was an election. The people who cast the votes decide nothing. The people who count the votes decide everything."

Napoleon is quoted as saying,

"I care not who casts the votes of a nation, provided I can count them."

Apparently, Rider University in New Jersey has, itself, been indoctrinated.

Rider U sent out a survey asking all students to vote on which restaurant chain they wanted on campus, but when it became clear that a sizable majority wanted Chick-fil-A, the university defaulted to Stalinism:

"Okay students, you have exercised your right to vote, now we are announcing whom we choose---your choice will not be coming to our school," seems to be the message.

The school will not bring the popular fast food chain to the campus because "their corporate values have not sufficiently progressed enough to align with those of Rider," read the Nov. 1 email sent to students.

The school went on to clarify that their decision was an effort to "promote...inclusion for all people."

Linda Pickett, a junior political science major and president of Rider's Young Americans for Liberty chapter, said: "I don't think it's fair, but because Rider is a private school...the decision is ultimately their own."

She questions why the focus is on what Chick-fil-A owners believe rather than on what they provide. She said, "They sell chicken, so as far as I'm concerned, that should be the focus."

Pickett says she thinks the school believes having Chick-fil-A on campus would create problems, so they just opted out to avoid any conflict.

And she says, "I wish they would be honest about it though, instead of trying to cover it as a deep offense to the school."

Once these and other similar comments began to seep into the public, Rider University Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs tried to make it all better: "It is important to me and to the University that all voices be heard...there are members of the community (faculty, staff, and students) who strongly opposed the option [Chick-fil-A] as well."

It probably doesn't matter to Chick-fil-A. They are one of the most successful food chains in the country.

But this little exercise in hypocrisy does matter.

This school, and hundreds if not thousands of other schools---private and public---are teaching students a way of life, a worldview that celebrates "inclusion"---actually demands it, while practicing "exclusion" and "intolerance."

Theirs is a worldview that celebrates the notion that the end always justifies the means. And a view that swings from relative truth to relative truth, with no absolutes to impede progress.

The Takeaway.

• You are free to vote. We will accept your vote, if you vote the proper way. Selective democracy. Selective freedom.
• It's important that all voices be heard---but we will act on behalf of a militant group of gay activists who might disrupt the campus.
• Chick-fil-A does not hold our values, therefore anyone who has a different belief than our belief is not acceptable and will be "excluded" under the guise of inclusion. And we will lie to the student body about our motives as needed. This lesson in intolerance in a place where tolerance is worshiped and celebrated.
• "Chick-fil-A's values have not sufficiently progressed enough to align with those of Rider." Another lesson in progressive relativism---and elitism. The assumption is that someday Chick-fil-A and the majority of students that voted for the chicken chain will be as enlightened as those who oppose the chain today.

This probably won't be acceptable to Rider University either, but it is to a lot of other folks.

Ernie is a WW II veteran.

He's 92, still drives and works around his house---even mows his lawn with a push mower.

He's been regularly eating at the Chick-fil-A in Avon, Indiana for the past year. He comes in for chicken nuggets and a root beer nearly every day.

Ernie says, "I like nuggets. And if you want a good one, this is the place to come."

The employees say, "He's like an all-American grandpa." "We were just fascinated with him." "He makes you feel good" and "All of us take turns sitting with him and eating with him."

One of the employees recently came up with the idea that the restaurant should give him free meals for his service to our country.

Leadership and ownership agreed.

To honor him for his service to our country, Chick-fil-A in Avon has now given him free meals for the rest of his life. He'll never have to pay again at that restaurant.

They videotaped the conversation when they told Ernie what they were going to do.

Ernie's first response was, "That's not fair to you guys."

He said, "It was kind of a shock to me. I didn't think I really deserved a free meal."

Put that up against the thinking and mindset of Rider University. And most others.

You tell me who is the most advanced, enlightened and evolved in their thinking.

Those who practice pretend democracy and liberty---and shape reality around their evolving beliefs and "rights?" And lie as needed to get them?

Or those who fought to preserve democracy and liberty, and those who recognize and honor them for doing so?
