Democrats Want to "Pack the Court"-- Do Voters Agree?

Angered by President Trump's nomination to the Supreme Court just weeks before an election, prominent Democrats are threatening to "pack the Court" if they can get in power.

What exactly does that mean?

And how do voters feel about it?

Be informed, not misled.

Rasmussen Reports published a new survey yesterday, revealing the voting public's view on "packing the Court" and on term limits for the Supreme Court.

This, while top Democrats are threatening to expand the Court by several seats to include more far-left radical justices to assist them in getting their radical, far-left agenda moved forward---an agenda they have not been able to move forward by a vote of the people.

The rage of the Left.

It is said Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg's last wish was that "a new" president would nominate the justice that would fill her seat---meaning someone other than President Trump.

To be clear, that wasn't "her" seat. All the seats on the Supreme Court belong to "we the people" regardless of who sits in them---the late Justice Ginsberg or the late Justice Scalia.

We elect our representatives to Congress and to the presidency itself to serve us---not the other way around.

Whether the left likes it or not the whole idea upon which this country was birthed was--"we the people."

We elect representatives to carry out our wishes regarding government and laws. And Supreme Court Justices.

But when Trump and Senate Majority leader McConnell announced they would indeed move the nomination forward---because presidents are elected for 4 years, not 3 years, the left exploded in rage.

President Trump's nominee to the Supreme Court, Amy Coney Barrett, one of the most highly qualified ever to be nominated, is currently meeting with Republican Senators prior to her confirmation hearing currently scheduled for October 12.

She is not meeting with the Democrat Senators on the Judicial Committee because they have refused to meet with her.

At this point, the Republicans believe they have the votes to confirm her.

The Democrats are threatening to pack the Court.

Democrat President Franklin D. Roosevelt, in 1937, tried to "pack the Court," which simply means adding more seats to the High Court by the party in power, filling them with activist justices who will assist pushing forward the radical left agenda.

Can they do that?

Yes. The Constitution says we must have a Supreme Court with a Chief Justice, it doesn't specify how many justices.

Since 1869, the US Supreme Court has seated 9 justices. This has been the norm for more than 150 years.

Roosevelt, who wanted to add 6  justices, which would have given us a Supreme Court with 15 justices, miserably failed.

Even many from his own party refused to support his effort to "pack the Court."

In 2019 the New York Times asked Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA): "Are you open to expanding the size of the Supreme Court?" She replied, "I'm absolutely open to it...every thing is on the table."

As the Democrat vice-presidential candidate, she feels just as strongly.

Joe Biden, at first said he didn't support any effort to change the Court. However in recent days, including the so-called "debate" Tuesday evening, he changed his tune. He now says, "It's a legitimate question, but I'm not going to answer it because it will shift all the attention."

I'm pretty sure that means "yes," everything "is on the table" and "I don't want the public to know I'm willing to do it until after the election."

Both Nancy Pelosi and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are calling for court-packing as soon as they have the power to do so.

Sen. Chuck Schumer, the Minority Leader in the Senate, says "everything is on the table."

Nancy Pelosi said the other day, "Our quiver is full of arrows." I'm not sure if that means she has a lot of kids or she plans to shoot somebody. I think it's the latter.

Others in the Senate and House are joining the Democrat chorus to "pack the court" when they seize power.

What do the citizens say?

Rasmussen Reports has found this week that 53% of voters oppose "packing the Court."

While 32% are in favor of the Democrat's plan to do it, 14% are unsure what they think about it.

The survey also found that 52% of voters think the Supreme Court justices should be subject to term limits---including 64% of Democrats, 39% of Republicans, and 49% of voters not affiliated with either party.

Democrats are much greater fans of "packing the court" than Republicans with Democrats 45%, Republicans 21%, and unaffiliated at 29%.

I found it interesting that 65% of all voters rated the handling of Brett Kavanaugh's nomination to the Supreme Court as "poor."

The takeaway.

It should be noted that although FDR was not successful in "packing the Court" most agreed that following his attempt to do so, the Court seemed to become more favorable toward his most important agenda items.

Is that what this new generation of far-left radicals are up to?

Now, almost 80 years later, there are a number of parallels. In the upcoming session this fall, the Supreme Court is likely to rule on a number of Obama-era laws and regulations. From Obamacare to environmental regulations---many on the left have been worried that this Court will find no constitutional basis for most of them---because there isn't.

The Democrats, of course, are hoping to take the Senate and the presidency and retain the House of Representatives. But if not, maybe they can at least get the attention of the sitting justices.

About Biden.

When Chris Wallace asked Biden at Tuesday's debate if he supported packing the court, he refused to answer because he knows he would lose the support from the far-left---the Bernie Sanders, Ocasio-Cortez, Elizabeth Warren part of his coalition and he can't win without them.

When Chris Wallace failed to do what any moderator is supposed to do---follow up on the question ---Trump followed up.

Biden finally turned and said (this is a  quote): "I'm not going to answer that question, because the question is..., the question is..., the question is.." finally he was able to say his answer to the question would get too much attention.

Then Biden, in anger, incoherently shouted, "Will you shut up, man?"

Will Schumer, Pelosi, AOC, Harris, or even Biden himself learn anything from the past?

Probably not. They'll probably double down.

The big question is, will Americans give them the opportunity to carry out their Court-packing plan?

This election is the most consequential since Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War.
