Stealing Thanksgiving?

A column published in the University of Virginia newspaper is urging fellow progressive students to "stand up" to their "racist" family members over Thanksgiving dinner.

The three governors who rule on the west coast are taking a different tack in stealing Thanksgiving. A more sophisticated one.

Some thoughts for this Thanksgiving week.

Be informed and encouraged, not misled and discouraged.

The indoctrinated college student.

In an opinion column published in the University of Virginia, an activist student is calling on all "progressive" students to make this year's Thanksgiving dinner a "special" event, by confronting their family regarding their racism.

The young, all-knowing columnist says that "white progressives" can take action by "debunking misinformation" and "combating hateful rhetoric" at the dinner table on Thanksgiving.

The young activist admits celebration over the election [of Biden] but the young intellectual is warning all progressives to even keep an eye on Biden to be sure he doesn't stray from the progressive way---"Our new president must be held accountable and face demands to execute a progressive agenda."

"Hateful beliefs," she says, "are not welcome at Thanksgiving dinner."

There's more, but you've got the point. Disrupt what could be a meaningful gathering of family members.

Unless the family lives on the west coast.

The governors three.

In seeming lockstep, the governors of Washington, Oregon and California are planning to all but eliminate any confrontation at the Thanksgiving table...by all but eliminating the gathering in the first place.

Washington's Inslee.

The American Council on Science and Health notes that "Washington State Governor Jay Inslee has canceled Thanksgiving as part of a new COVID lockdown. The Grinch of Whoville couldn't have created a better policy."

While agreeing that certain measures must be taken during this pandemic, they point out that all restrictions are not equally smart.

For example, they notice that the "Grinch Governor of Washington, just announced sweeping new restrictions that essentially put the entire state back into lockdown at least through mid-December."

They point out the glaring poor policy of "one size fits all" for each county in the state.

Example: "Consider tiny little Wahkiakum County in the southwest corner of the state. It has a population of roughly 4500 people. There have been a total of 11 cases, 0 hospitalizations, and 0 deaths. Why should this county be subjected to the same restrictions as King County where Seattle is located?"

They conclude, "But Washington State is notoriously allergic to smart policies, let alone ones 'based on science'."

"Is Christmas next?" they ask.

Oregon's Brown.

Oregon's Governor Brown has told Oregon's residents to call the cops if they see anyone violating her coronavirus rules.

Really.

Her orders include a two-week freeze that includes limiting indoor and outdoor gatherings to no more than 6 people from no more than 2 households.

She says, "We must stay vigilant."

She says reporting your neighbors for violations is "no different than what happens if there's a party down the street and it's keeping everyone awake. What do neighbors do [in that case]? They call law enforcement because it's too noisy. This is just like that. It's like a violation of a noise ordinance."

And she says violators can face up to 30 days in jail, up to $1250 in fines, or both. She says she will be working with the state police and local law enforcement to "encourage" Oregonians to comply with her mandate.

She doesn't explain whether or not those who snitch on their neighbors get a reward from the government. Under Nazism in Germany, people were always rewarded for reporting on their neighbors.

California's Newsom

California has been in some form of lockdown for about 8 months. Now as we approach Thanksgiving Day, Governor Newsom has thrown a curfew on top of all his other restrictions.

It did not go unnoticed that the Governor was seen in Nampa at a high-end restaurant celebrating his own birthday with his elite friends, breaking all his own rules.

First, he lied, saying they were outside. Then pictures appeared---they were not outside. Then came the apology.

When he was caught, he said he was sorry, he shouldn't have done that.

The new restrictions require people to stay home from 10 PM to 5 AM unless they are responding to an emergency, shopping for groceries, picking up take out, or walking their dog.

The curfew applies to 41 of the state's 58 counties. Those counties encompass 94% of the nearly 40 million people living in the most populous US state.

As you can imagine, people have taken to the streets, defying the orders, declaring them "unconstitutional" and unacceptable.

They are to last through Thanksgiving ---will they be extended through Christmas as well?

People are asking.

Some thoughts about Thanksgiving.

Amid some of the direst circumstances---a nation at war with itself---President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a day of national Thanksgiving to God.

Not for the circumstances, but for the blessings in spite of the circumstances.

He began with, "The year that is drawing towards its close, has been filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies."

Then continuing, he acknowledged the great Civil War war raging in America while thanking God because it could be worse: foreign states could have tried to take advantage of our division---but by God's grace did not.

He then set his hand and the Seal of the United States proclaiming a "Day of Thanksgiving, this third day of October, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-three..."

No one can separate you from a heart filled with thanksgiving to almighty God for His blessings, regardless of the circumstances.

Be Thankful. Be Prayerful. Be Blessed.
