"With His Hand On The Bible..."

Kate Bedingfield, the incoming White House Communications Director, on Sunday, outlined President-elect Joe Biden's plans to "bring the country together and to roll back some of the most egregious moves of the Trump administration."

She says "we're very much looking forward to President-elect Biden putting his hand on the Bible at noon on the 20th."

Tomorrow Joe Biden is set to become the 46th President of the United States. Kamala Harris is set to become Vice President of the United States.

A last look in the rearview mirror, before we lurch to the left with the most leftist administration in the history of our country.

Be informed, and be prayerful.

In an interview with ABC News Sunday, Bedingfield said Biden's Inaugural Address on Wednesday will one of a "unified America."

The unification.

She says:

"So I think that what you'll hear from President-elect Biden on Wednesday will be a reflection of a lot of what he said on the campaign trail, which is he believes we can bring this country together. He believes that we have to bring this country together, that a unified America is the only way that we're going to be able to tackle the massive crises that we're grappling with."

I continued to watch the ABC interview because I don't recall candidate Joe Biden "saying" much of anything on the "campaign trail" because he spent the year sitting in his basement making a few statements about how bad things are, and how bad Trump is.

Actually, it was the press that did the campaigning for him. And their message was clear.

Bedingfield says she doesn't want to share too much in advance of Biden's speech tomorrow, but "this will be the moment where President-elect Biden will really work to try to turn the page on the divisiveness and the hatred over the last four years and really lay out a way---lay out a path forward that really calls on all of us to work together."

She says that's what Americans want.

Is that possible?

Biden's path forward.

Bedingfield says "across the course of the first week and a half in office you're going to see him" focus on workers, make good on his "buy America" promise, and "make good on his promise to move us toward a more just and racially equitable society."

And she says he will "make movement on racial equity and on climate" legislation.

Are those uniting factors? Can these issues actually unite us?

Americans so "no."

A Rasmussen Report published yesterday says otherwise.

Rasmussen found that a majority of voters believe they live in a country that is generally fair, but most Democrats say America is basically unfair and discriminatory.

  • 54% of all likely voters say American society is generally fair and decent.
  • 38% disagree, saying America is basically unfair and discriminatory. 8% don't know what they believe.
  • Among Democrats, the numbers are reversed, with 54% saying America is basically unfair and discriminatory and 38% who say America is fair and decent.
  • 72% of Republican voters say America is fair and decent, as do 51% of voters not affiliated with either major party.

How will Biden change the minds of most Americans? In order to find unity on his "racial equity" plan, he'll have to first convince the 72%  they are wrong and that America is not really a fair and decent country before he will find unity.

Democrats, in recent years, have attempted to do exactly that. Barack Obama is the most recent example. He constantly worked to diminish America declaring it wasn't exceptional, was guilty of mortal sins like slavery and needed to be taken down a notch---apologizing to foreign countries as often as possible.

The "progressive path" that Biden is going to be working toward is a path of failure because most of the 72% simply are not going to change their minds and believe America is a bad place. And he will never be a unifying voice as he pushes the most radical agenda in our national history.

The coalition he has assembled around himself, including his vice-president, Bernie Sanders, Pete Buttigieg, Elizabeth Warren, Ocasio-Cortez, and a host of others well known for their far-left radical agenda will force Biden, who suffers from some cognitive issues, to go along with the plan. And the path.

Real unification.

It is written in Scripture that "as a man thinketh in his heart so is he"--- we are what we believe.

"With his hand on the Bible" tomorrow, Joe Biden will take an oath: "I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

I suspect he will add, "So help me God."

The late Francis Schaeffer shared this illustration in his book "Marking The Watershed:"

Not far from where we live in Switzerland is a high ridge of rock with a valley on both sides. One time I was there when there was now on the ground along the ridge. The snow was lying there unbroken, a seeming unity. However, that unity was an illusion, for it lay along a great divide; it lay along a watershed. One portion of the snow when it melted would flow into one valley. The snow, which lay close beside, would flow into another valley when it melted.

After tracing where the melted snow would go--- part into Germany and the Rhine, the other eventually into the warm Mediterranean---literally thousands of miles apart---he said this:

The snow lies along that watershed, unbroken, as a seeming unity...that is a watershed. A watershed divides. A clear line can be drawn between what seems at first to be the same or at least very close, but in reality ends in very different situations. In a watershed there is a line.

Although written a generation ago, the book talks about bending the Bible, the Mark of our Age, and if we really believe in the infallibility of the Bible, as confrontation.

He talks about influencers who bend Scripture to affirm their changing relativistic moral beliefs. And about those who claim Christianity, while not being true to what Christ Himself and God's Word claims.

He notes that if we acquiesce and continue on that path under the guise of "unity," how can we be the salt and light to this broken and fragmented generation?

If we truly believe in the authority of the Bible as we say we do, Schaeffer says something must be considered. "Truth carries with it confrontation. Truth demands confrontation; loving confrontation, but confrontation none the less."

"Unity" is not the goal. "Obedience" to God and His Word is the goal.

There is a line on the watershed.

Joshua put it like this: "Choose you this day whom you will serve...as for me and my house we will serve the Lord."
