Gov. Newsom Targets ICE, then Shooter Tries to Kill ICE

Two people are dead after a shooter whose bullet casings reportedly had “anti-ICE messages” on them targeted an ICE facility in Dallas, Texas. Just hours earlier, California Gov. Gavin Newsom described immigration enforcement as “authoritarian” and suggested people would “push back” in an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

Words have consequences.

Homeland Security said in a news release yesterday, "This morning, a sniper opened fire from a nearby rooftop on a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Dallas field office. The shooter fired indiscriminately at the ICE building, including at a van in the sallyport where the victims were shot. Three detainees were shot. One detainee is deceased, and the other two are in critical condition. The gunman was found dead with a self-inflicted gun wound."

They noted that "The shell casings were found with anti-ICE messages on them. This was an attack on ICE law enforcement. "

Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem said this:

“Our prayers are with the families of those killed and our ICE law enforcement. This vile attack was motivated by hatred for ICE. For months, we’ve been warning politicians and the media to tone down their rhetoric about ICE law enforcement before someone was killed. This shooting must serve as a wake-up call to the far-left that their rhetoric about ICE has consequences. Comparing ICE Day-in and day-out to the Nazi Gestapo, the Secret Police, and slave patrols has consequences. The men and women of ICE are fathers and mothers, sons and daughters. They get up every morning to try and make our communities safer. Like everyone else, we just want to go home to our families at night. The violence and dehumanization of these men and women who are simply enforcing the law must stop. We are praying for the victims and their families.”

This is not the first attack on this facility. Last month, there was a bomb threat at the facility. An unknown male subject, later identified as Bratton Dean Wilkinson, a 36-year-old U.S. citizen, arrived at the reporting entrance of the Dallas Field Office and claimed to have a bomb in his backpack.

Fox News reported yesterday afternoon, "The FBI says it is investigating the incident as a 'targeted attack' against ICE, and multiple sources familiar with the investigation have identified the alleged shooter as 29-year-old Joshua Jahn. Representatives for the FBI at a Wednesday morning press conference in Dallas said that preliminary investigations uncovered anti-ICE messaging on bullet rounds found near the shooter."

Fox said, "The shooting reportedly occurred as ICE officers were transferring detainees into the facility. The shooter died due to a self-inflicted wound shortly after the attack, authorities say. The three individuals who were shot were all detainees, and two of them have died."

FBI Director Kash Patel, posted on X, "These despicable, politically motivated attacks against law enforcement are not a one-off. We are only miles from Prarieland Texas where just two months ago an individual ambushed a separate ICE facility targeting their officers. It has to end, and the FBI and our partners will lead these investigative efforts to see to it that those who target our law enforcement are pursued and brought to the fullest extent of justice."

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, also appeared at Wednesday's press conference in Dallas and condemned the attack, saying, "Violence has no place. It is wrong. If we want to have a debate about immigration we can do so in the halls of Congress."

Cruz issued a similar statement, saying: “To every politician who is using rhetoric demonizing ICE and demonizing CBP, stop. To every politician demanding that ICE agents be doxed and calling for people to go after their families, stop. This has very real consequences.”

The Leftists who like to call themselves "progressives" are detached from reality.

While on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Tuesday evening, Newsom criticized: “Masked men, jumping out of unmarked cars, people disappearing, no due process, no oversight, zero accountability.”

“People ask: ‘Well, is “authoritarianism” here being hyperbolic?’ [expletive] we’re being hyperbolic. If you’re a black and brown community, [authoritarianism is] here, in this country,” he said, adding that people would “push back” against the “authoritarian actions.”

This rhetoric is similar to that shared by other members of the Democratic Party.

  • Minority Speaker Hakeem Jeffries alleged ICE agents were engaging in “aggressive overreach” and that they should be doxed.

“This is not the 1930s, and every single one of them, no matter what it takes, no matter how long it takes, will, of course, be identified,” Jeffries said.

  • Failed vice presidential candidate Tim Walz referred to ICE agents as “modern-day Gestapo.”

“They’re in unmarked vans, wearing masks, being shipped off to foreign torture dungeons, no chance to mount a defense, not even a chance to kiss a loved one goodbye, just grabbed up by masked agents, shoved into those vans, and disappeared,” Walz said.

Washington State's own Rep. Pramila Jayapal accused ICE of “acting like a terrorist force,” claiming people “are being kidnapped and disappeared off the street by masked men.”

  • Florida Democrat Rep. Maxwell Frost told ICE agents to “quit now” if they had “any decency.”
