President Obama's proclamation comes just weeks after a federal appeals court overturned a 2010 ruling that a Presidential proclamation of a national day of prayer was unconstitutional.

Judge Frank Easterbrook, a Reagan appointee wrote, "Those who do not agree with a president's statement may speak in opposition to it, they are not entitled to silence the speech of which they disapprove."

The President proclaimed, "Let us be thankful for the liberty that allows people of all faiths to worship or not to worship according to the dictates of their conscience, let us be thankful for the many other freedoms and blessings that we often take for granted."

You will recall it was the Wisconsin based atheist group, "Freedom from Religion" ---the group that has been active in Seattle and elsewhere, that filed the suit to prevent the President from making a Prayer Proclamation. They claimed the President proclaiming a national day of prayer gave them a "feeling of alienation."

The court said they do not have legal standing in the matter.

This is the 60th National Day of Prayer.

The theme for this year is "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God" (Ps. 91:2)

I have linked the National Day of Prayer web site here. You will find a good deal of information about prayer and the prayer events on Thursday.

Be Prayerful. Be Vigilant. Be Discerning. Be Active. Be Blessed.
