Sodom and Gomorrah Rediscovered

Scientists have found that a "super-heated blast from the skies" destroyed the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah along the north side of the Dead Sea about 3700 years ago.

Science News reports that minerals were instantly crystallized and "bubbling brine of Dead Sea salts covered the once fertile farmland."

The scientific report, out this week, confirms the biblical accounts in Genesis 19.

Some thoughts on rediscovering Sodom and Gomorrah.

Be informed.

What scientists have discovered.

According to Science News research scientist Phillip Silvia says the discoveries show that a 25-kilometer-wide (15-mile) circular plain called Middle Ghor was instantaneously destroyed. The event pushed a bubbling brine of Dead Sea salts over the once fertile farmland.

In fact, he says people did not return to the area for 600-700 years.

Excavations at 5 large sites indicate that all were continuously occupied for at least 2500 years until a sudden, collective collapse toward the end of the Bronze Age.

The discoveries also have found that about 40,000 to 65,000 people lived in the area at the time, the heat was extreme, melting pieces of pottery into glass or zircon in one second.

Scientists at the discovery agree that temperatures could have been as hot as the Sun itself.

Mud-brick structures suddenly disappeared leaving only stone foundations.

The research team has discovered that high force winds created tiny, spherical mineral grains that apparently rained down on the area designated as Tall el-Hammam leaving bits of rock embedded in pottery pieces.

The scientists involved in the research are very confident, based on facts, this is the biblical Sodom and Gomorrah described in Genesis chapter 19.

For the most part, the mainstream media is avoiding the story altogether, those who are reporting it, do so in a way that leaves the footprints of skepticism on the discovery.

What the media is saying.

Forbes Magazine says, in reporting on the discovery,
"Archaeologists may be able to answer some of the big questions behind the story of Sodom, including whether it really existed, where it was and what actually destroyed it, but even if it turns out that Tall el-Hammam is Sodom and it was destroyed by a cosmic airburst, the biggest question remains: Did someone, perhaps a deity, order an asteroid hit on Sodom?"

The Christian Post is reporting the story, noting that "The fiery destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah is famously depicted in Genesis 19 of the Bible, which says that God overthrew 'all those living in the cities' along with 'the vegetation in the land'."

And most of us remember that, according to the Bible, Lot's wife became a pillar of salt, because of her uncertainty as to whether she wanted to stay or leave delayed her departure.

What the Bible is saying.

To Forbes point, "Did someone, perhaps a deity, order an asteroid hit on Sodom?"

Genesis 19 tells God's story of how two angels came to Sodom and accepted Lot's offer to stay in his house for the evening. The narrative continues telling the story of how sexual perversion was so pervasive that the men of the city stormed the doors of Lot's house wanting to "know them carnally" even rejecting the offer of Lot's daughters who were virgins (v 8).

Physically removing Lot, his wife and daughters from their home, the angels ordered Lot and family to flee---escape the coming doom.

The doom was delayed until Lot's family was safely out of harm's way---except for Lot's wife. Verse 26 says, "But his wife looked back behind him and she became a pillar of salt."

Revisiting Sodom.

I'm pretty sure the scientists have found the remains of Sodom and Gomorrah.

I'm absolutely sure that God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah. And He did so because of the destructive sin of homosexual behavior, not the "lack of hospitality" that homosexual activists would have you believe.

As scientists are revisiting the physical remains of Sodom and Gomorrah, it would do America---and particularly the Church of Jesus Christ, Protestant and Catholic-- to also revisit the cause of the destruction.

Major denominations ordaining homosexuals, priests and clergy presiding over same-sex "weddings" sanctuaries invaded by aggressive activists, debates over homosexuality tearing the very fabric of local church congregations apart---how did we get here when God's Word is so very, very clear on how He feels about the matter? And so very, very explicit.

Dr. Michael Brown has written a great deal on the subject of the Church and homosexuality.

I would like to direct you to one of his articles titled, "The Great Gay Deception".

Brown says this:

Forty years ago homosexual activists concluded that their 2 main enemies were the psychiatric profession and the church. The formed classified homosexuality as a sickness, the latter as a sin, and so an ideological war was launched to subdue these 2 enemies.
In 1973, the American Psychiatric Association ( followed by a host of other organizations) depathologized homosexuality, saying it was not a mental disorder or emotional disorder of any kind.
This meant the last major obstacle to overcome was the view of the church, and that's why there has been a concerted effort to change public perception about the Bible and homosexual practice. This effort has involved arguing that the message of the Bible is antiquated and irrelevant, or, in more conservative circles, that the Word of God was condemning things like pedophilia and homosexual prostitution as opposed to committed, loving, same-sex relationships.

When Brown wrote the article, he predicted the battle was coming to a church near you.

I doubt anyone would dispute that that has happened.

Every day a so-called spiritual leader or evangelical or musician or Christian author or some other person of influence comes out in support of the "Christian homosexual" movement in the name of "Love." God's Love.

This week Grammy-nominated Christian singer Lauren Daigle was the featured artist on "The Domenick Nati Show" on iHeart Radio.

He asked her if homosexuality is a sin. He said he wanted to ask her about her stance on homosexuality as a Christian.

Her response:
"I can't honestly answer on that, in the sense of I have too many people that I love and they are homosexuals."

She continued, "I can't say one way or the other, I'm not God."

Feeling pressed, she said, "Read the Bible, find out for yourself."

Obviously, she and too many others are not reading the Bible and finding out for themselves. They are led by the prevailing winds of emotion and political correctness.

In October, Daigle, a winner on the TV show "American Idol," appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres Show. When criticized for appearing with Ellen by some Christians who looked up to her, she said, "It's so sad that people think because Ellen's gay she's bad."

Brown notes that
"Writing in the flagship gay publican 'The Advocate' back in 1995, lesbian journalist Patricia Nell Warren stated, 'Whoever captures the kids owns the future'. Long before this , in 1958, Allen Ginsberg, the famed Beat poet and gay hippie icon, shouted to a young conservative leader, 'We'll get you through your children'."

Homosexual activists have been incredibly successful capturing the hearts and minds of our kids, not necessarily through physical seduction, but through effective indoctrination.

As scientists revisit and re-discover the ruins of Sodom, we as a nation and a Christian church would be well served to revisit and rediscover what caused the ruins. And we should do so as well, before we too, find ourselves in the dustbin of history---facing a God who loves the homosexual, but condemns their sexual behavior---and is deeply displeased with those who affirm that behavior in His name.
