Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th president yesterday, promising a “revolution of common sense” and taking charge as Republicans assume unified control of Washington and set out to reshape the country’s institutions. He pledged to "completely and totally reverse" the actions of his predecessors, Joe Biden, and previous presidents.

He gave biblical Christians great reason to believe America can and will be restored to our founding values and principles.

And he humbly proclaimed, "God has saved me to make America great again."

Trump, who overcame impeachments, criminal indictments, and a pair of assassination attempts to win another term in the White House, is acting swiftly. Executive orders were already prepared for his signature to clamp down on border crossings, increase fossil fuel development, and end diversity and inclusion programs across the federal government.

Declaring that the government faces a “crisis of trust," Trump said in his inaugural address that under his administration, “our sovereignty will be reclaimed. Our safety will be restored. The scales of justice will be rebalanced."

Trump claimed “a mandate to completely and totally reverse a horrible betrayal," [by previous administrations] promising to “give the people back their faith, their wealth, their democracy and indeed their freedom.”

He added: "From this moment on, America’s decline is over.”

“The journey to reclaim our republic has not been an easy one,” Trump said. “Those who wish to stop our cause have tried to take my freedom, and indeed, to take my life.”

The executive orders are the first step in what Trump calls “the complete restoration of America and the revolution of common sense."

Trump also signed an executive order to end diversity, equity, and inclusion programs within the federal government. The order will direct federal agencies to coordinate with the White House on identifying and terminating DEI programs. Conservatives have long criticized programs that give preference based on race, gender, and sexual orientation, arguing they violate the Constitution.

He said that beginning today, the official position of the federal government is that there are two genders: male and female.

Trump is planning to swiftly reinstitute his 2020 playbook to crack down on the southern border — again declaring a national emergency, limiting the number of refugees entering the U.S., and deploying the military. He's expected to take additional actions — including constitutionally questionable ones — such as attempting to end birthright citizenship automatically bestowed on people born in the U.S.

The president also extended his appreciation to black and Hispanic communities and said in honor of Martin Luther King Jr., "We will strive to make his dream a reality."

After Trump was sworn in as the 47th president, a choir and orchestral performance of the “Battle Hymn of the Republic” by Julia Ward Howe was performed at the Capitol.

Takeaway

The day before he was sworn in, Trump held a rally at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., vowing to “act with historic speed and strength to fix every single crisis facing our country.”

“By the time the sun sets tomorrow evening, the invasion of our borders will have come to a halt, and all the illegal border trespassers will, in some form or another, be on their way back home,” he said.

“Together, we’re going to cut your taxes, end inflation, slash your prices, get them back down, raise your wages, and bring thousands of factories back to the USA right where they belong.”

Trump assured attendees that, under his administration, schools “will teach our children to love our country, to honor our history and to always respect our great American flag, and we will get critical race theory and transgender insanity the (expletive) out of our schools.”

Yesterday, Trump said:

“An assassin’s bullet ripped through my ear, but I felt then and believe even more so now that my life was saved for a reason. I was saved by God to make America great again.”

Trump called his inauguration “liberation day” and assured Americans, “We will not forget our country, we will not forget our Constitution, and we will not forget our God.”
