"Mostly Peaceful" Protests Against TPUSA at Berkely

UC Berkeley student radicals clashed with police and attacked conservatives outside a TPUSA event honoring Charlie Kirk.

Student groups, including Students Organizing For Liberation (SOL), Jewish Voice for Peace, and Young Democratic Socialists of America, organized the unrest, which left a Kirk supporter's face gushing with blood.

And some defined the evening as "mostly peaceful."

This behavior has become a habit — almost a norm in our country. Activists silence their opposition,  destroy property, injure, and sometimes kill those with whom they disagree. And then lie about their actions.

It is a spirit of rebellion.

Be informed, not misled.

University of California, Berkeley student radicals clashed with police and Turning Point USA supporters Monday night, leaving one conservative bloodied and resulting in multiple arrests.

UC Berkeley currently looks like a war zone.

An ANTIFA member just lit off a flare, prompting TPUSA event attendees to be rushed inside.

The Free Beacon reported, "The protesters, many clad in keffiyehs, medical masks, and other face coverings, launched fireworks, smoke bombs, and flares. They waved Palestinian flags and carried a banner that included red upside-down triangles, a symbol Hamas uses to mark its targets."

At least one fight broke out between an agitator and a TPUSA supporter. The altercation left a man wearing Kirk’s signature red "Freedom" t-shirt with a face gushing blood. As the brawlers were being arrested, a left-wing agitator taunted him yelling, "Hey, white boy! You’re bleeding, white boy!"

Other masked protesters stalked police, encouraging them to kill themselves, video obtained by the Washington Free Beacon shows. "Pigs, pigs help yourself, it’s not too late to kill yourself," one chanted.

UC Berkeley spokesman Dan Mogulof said the Berkeley Police Department arrested two people for fighting. Another two were arrested by campus police—Christopher Joseph Benton, a 48-year-old unaffiliated with the university, and Jay Eduardo Maytorena, 22, who is either a current or former student. Benton and Maytorena were arrested on charges related to trespassing and resisting arrest.

"Otherwise, more than 900 people attended the TPUSA event, which proceeded without disruption," Mogulof said.

Of course. "Mostly peaceful." Nothing to see here.

TPUSA officials attributed the unrest to "Antifa thugs." The student groups issued a statement Tuesday afternoon denying their affiliation with Antifa and boasting that they delayed the TPUSA event by an hour and a half.

Well done, faithful servants of dark rebellion.

The incident put UC Berkeley on the Trump administration’s radar, with Assistant Attorney General for civil rights Harmeet Dhillon saying her office would investigate.

"I see several issues of serious concern regarding campus and local security and Antifa’s ability to operate with impunity in CA," she posted to X.

Berkeley College Republicans president Martin Bertao, a junior, said the agitators were trying to silence conservatives.

"It was a violent group of people who were not there to merely exercise their First Amendment rights," he said. "They were there to try to silence our rights to have political speech and to try to scare us into not coming back. That was their goal."

Biblically, the spirit of rebellion is deadly.

The Bible portrays the spirit of rebellion as a serious sin comparable to witchcraft and idolatry, stemming from a rejection of God's authority and leading to spiritual separation, self-will, and a hardened heart. It is seen as being contrary to God's will, grieving the Holy Spirit, and ultimately resulting in a loss of blessings and spiritual death if unrepentant.

Something to consider:

  • Rejection of God's authority: The core of rebellion is a defiance of God's authority and commands. This is exemplified in 1 Samuel 15:23, where God equates rebellion to the sin of divination and stubbornness to idolatry because of Saul's rejection of His word.
  • Equivalence to other sins: Rebellion is so serious that it is compared to other grave sins, such as witchcraft and idolatry. This highlights the gravity of a rebellious attitude, which puts one in direct opposition to God's will.
  • Grieving the Holy Spirit: A rebellious spirit can make the Holy Spirit your enemy rather than your helper. Isaiah 63:10 states that people's rebellion against God has grieved His Holy Spirit.
  • Consequences: Rebellion leads to negative consequences, including spiritual separation from God, a hardened heart, and a withholding of blessings. The Bible mentions that rebellious people are often described as living in a "dry land" or being "devoured with the sword" if they refuse to obey.
  • The first rebellion: The first instance of rebellion in the Bible is the occurrence in the Garden of Eden with Adam and Eve's disobedience, and the ultimate rebellion is Satan's prideful rebellion against God, which led to his fall from heaven (Isaiah 14:12-15).

Takeaway

Isaiah 30:1 “Woe to the rebellious children,” says the Lord, “Who take counsel, but not of Me, And who devise plans, but not of My Spirit, That they may add sin to sin.”

Jeremiah 5:23: “But this people has a defiant and rebellious heart; They have revolted and departed.”

But there is a pathway to repentance: The Bible presents a path to overcome rebellion through repentance. It urges individuals to humble themselves, acknowledge their rebellious attitudes, and submit to God's will by accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, asking Him to forgive you of your sins. And accepting His forgiveness and restoration.
