Nancy Pelosi: "Birth Control Will Help Economy"

Rep. John Boehner (R-Ohio), expressed concern last week that there were hundreds of millions of dollars in the Democrats stimulus package.

He asked, "How does that stimulate the economy?"

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi made her explanation yesterday while appearing on ABC's "This Week" with George Stephanopoulos.

Stephanopoulos asked, "Hundreds of millions of dollars to expand family planning services. How is that stimulus?"

Pelosi's answer: "Well, the family planning services reduce cost. They reduce cost. The states are in terrible fiscal budget crises now and part of what we do for children's health, education and some of those elements are to help the states meet their financial needs. One of those---one of the initiatives you mentioned, the contraception, will reduce costs to the states and to federal government."

She added, "We have to deal with the consequences of the downturn in our economy."

One wonders out loud how much of that will go directly or indirectly to perform more abortions. From her view, that too, would "help the economy."

This is a principle that China has used to limit the number of children couples could have, saying if couples had too many children they could not be as productive in the work force and therefore not contribute enough to the economic growth of the country.

I have always believed America was much more than that. Planned Parenthood is not the answer we are looking for.

If we were to follow Pelosi's beliefs, it probably would not be much of a step to also see how much the elderly are costing states and the federal government. Although we may not want to take those steps, because of the downturn in our economy, it would be "moral" and a wise use of our financial resources to invest in the next generation and reduce or eliminate help to those who are non-productive.

The left will push this through, with Pelosi's leadership. While that is concerning, it is even more concerning that some Republicans will line up to support her in the name of "working together--bi-partisanship."

While the economy is urgent--we all agree there is a much greater challenge looming on the horizon of this great country. We have lost our moral compass. We will continue to drift in the sea of relativism and pragmatism until conservatives and people of faith get our act together and elect leadership that is led by principle not mere politics.

God help us.

  1. Unbelievable. How does she live with herself? How can a conscious be so seared. "Children cost us money so lower the birth rate at whatever cost."

  2. You should write a book about this. You are so right.

  3. Funny how the very same program that is a "gift the abortion industry" was implemented and supported by Republicans in the past.

"First of all, the family-planning program that Pelosi supports expanding in the stimulus bill was created in 1972 under the leadership of Republican president Richard Nixon.

What's being proposed is an expansion in the number of states that can use Medicaid money, with a federal match, to help low-income women prevent unwanted pregnancies. Of the 26 states that already have Medicaid waivers for family planning, eight are led by Republican governors (AL, FL, MS, SC, CA, LA, MN and RI -- a ninth, MO, had a GOP governor until this past November). If this policy is truly a taxpayer gift to "the abortion industry," as John Boehner and House Republicans claim, where are the GOP governors promising to end the program in their states?

Additionally, the process of obtaining a waiver for Medicaid family-planning coverage is extremely cumbersome. A letter written by Wisconsin health regulators in 2007 noted that some states have had to wait for as long as two years before their request was approved. The Congressional Budget Office has estimated that eliminating the waiver requirement would save states $400 million over 10 years."

The GOP is lying, I know just shocking, right.

  4. So there we have it. The Democrats are revealing their socialist agenda with population control, and wasteful spending. Obama claims we need to work from the bottom up. Does he want to pick and choose what segment of the population procreates? I want to know where the resistance is in the congress. Are all the Republicans suddenly muted? They cannot fear approval ratings, they need to stand up for our values and principals. They are our voice. Bending to the left, and wandering from our values is what has gotten the Republican party where we are in the first place. If the Republicans in Washington DC don't stand up for their constituents, instead of trumped up poll numbers, there will be more defections, as there won't be any choice. They will have morphed into a one party system.

  5. A total different way at looking at people . They say if you support the unborn , its up to you to take care of that person from cradle to grave . Yet they do not see that if you destroy a life , they are disagreeing with the belief that God made us for a purpose , and they feel no obligation to make up for that person's designed purpose in this world .

  6. And she calls herself a Catholic. Childern are a gift from God, not a burden. Could it be that the next group that are a burden are the eldery? Of course those in power will always be exempt for any law they push through.

  7. So Hitler might have found a sympathizer of his "Final Solution" in Pelosi?

  8. Liberal math again. Because of the contraception and abortion, we are facing a demographic winter, not an explosion. There are 50 million fewer laborers in our economy (the tax base that supports the pork spending in Washington) due to abortion alone since 1973 (based on the abortion industry's own statistics). With the devastating effects of contraception thrown in, the US is barely at replacement rate. Once we slip below that, we are dying as a society. Nations further along that path than the US, such a Russia and France, are giving "baby holidays" and monetary incentives in a desperate attempt to boost population. If Mrs. Pelosi was faithful to the teachings of her church, she would know that in 1968 Pope Paul VI prophetically identified the poisonous fruit of artificial contraception. If she wasn't blinded by ideology, she could just look around the world today and see the devastating accuracy of those predictions.

  9. Since you folks don't believe in contraception, why haven't you literally out-populated us liberals? Something doesn't add up here.

  10. We really have. However, foolishly, we have turned our kids over to the socialist schools who have indoctrinated them with the liberal poison. I will be working to close every public school in favor of free, private schools which actually teach reading, writing, and arithmatic, not socialist agendas.

  11. 11:39
because u were busy 'killing' babies via abortions!
Who says we 'don't believe in contraceptions? We just don't believe in birth control via abortions! It's 'sick' that Obama 'brags' about helping other countries with their population control via our $ being used for thier abortions! Abortions for birth control---is wrong--it's killing--its sick!

  12. i hope that those of you who do not support equal human rights are willing and pleased to have yours threatened and revoked.
