Obama's "Evolving" Morality: A Mandate From Jesus?

Once again President Obama has declared, not a "Gay Pride" day, but has declared the entire month of June to be LGBT Pride Month.

"This June, let's take some time to celebrate teachers and students who take a stand against bullying, openly gay and lesbian service members, ... families and friends who have seen their own attitudes evolve," he urged.

The basis of the celebration, he says, is the teaching of Jesus Christ. And Scripture.

The President of the United States is suggesting that Jesus has taught us to "evolve" away from biblical teaching on a most fundamental moral biblical Truth---that of human sexual behavior.

"We must treat others the way we want to be treated," the President said.

He cited the Golden Rule when he first revealed on May 9 that he now believes gay and lesbian couples should be able to get married.

In the President's theological world, if one does not affirm deviant sexually behavior condemned by Scripture, one is not following Jesus and His teachings.

Pointing to his and his wife Michelle's Christian faith, he told ABC News at the time, "When we think about our faith the thing at root that we think about is not only Christ sacrificing himself on our behalf but it's also the golden rule – treat others the way you'd want to be treated."

A new "truth". A new "value."

We are now told by our President that somehow Christ's death and resurrection condones homosexual behavior, affirms relativism in regard to Scriptural teaching on human sexual behavior and the way to live out the Golden Rule is to not only accept, but affirm and celebrate that which the Bible calls sin.

"I've often said that the true genius of America is that America can change. We can pass laws to right wrongs; we can soften hardened attitudes," he said in a video posted Friday on the White House website.

Celebrating "unsung heroes" in the LGBT movement, Obama stated, "Bit by bit, step by step they bent the arc of the moral universe towards justice. Now it's our turn."

We, not God, will determine what is right and what is wrong.

The president vowed to continue to "advance the rights of LGBT Americans" and called on Americans to "eliminate prejudice" and "celebrate the great diversity of the American people."

If you do not affirm homosexual behavior, you are not living out Christ's teaching.

How did we get to this place?

A recent study by "Changing The Face of Christianity," has found that only 1 in 3 Christians actually live out their faith according to biblical teaching. Founder R. Brad White calls them "Christians in name only," and is working to help churches better communicate the Truth of God's Word and help people actually live out those teachings. I recommend you read the link above.

The "Emerging Church" movement has focused so much on being "relevant" that many churches fail to distinguish between light and darkness---sin and righteousness---right and wrong, and in doing so have lost the opportunity for true redemption, true restoration and true transformation in people's lives---and in the culture.

We live in a culture that is more and more bent toward dismissing God as the Author of Truth and substituting ourselves---our own feelings and experience as the basis of Truth. We want to be "God" and relativism, rather than absolute Truth, provides the perfect environment.

Pastor John Piper described it this way:
“Relativism poses as humble by saying: “We are not smart enough to know what the truth is—or if there is any universal truth.” It sounds humble. But look carefully at what is happening. It’s like a servant saying: I am not smart enough to know which person here is my master—or if I even have a master. The result is that I don’t have a master and I can be my own master. That is in reality what happens to relativists: In claiming to be too lowly to know the truth, they exalt themselves as supreme arbiter of what they can think and do. This is not humility. This is the essence of pride.”

America's cultural, political and economic restoration will only come from once again becoming, "One Nation Under God'.
