NY Daily News: "God Isn't Fixing This"

The cover of the New York Daily News reads, "As latest batch of innocent Americans are left lying in pools of blood, cowards who could truly end gun scourge continue to hide behind meaningless platitudes."

The Headline read, "God Isn't Fixing This."

The cowards?

Ted Cruz, among others.

The New York Daily News has confirmed what many of us have known for some time: The media generally harbors anti-Christian bigotry, and have done so for years.

Surveys as far back as 1981 revealed that 50% of the media was atheist, and 86% seldom or never went to church or synagogue. The numbers are surely higher now.

For years the angst toward religion, particularly biblical Christianity, has been veiled and masked.

The mask has now slipped---the veil is gone.

Here is how the press amplified the words of the NY Daily, while attempting to appear "neutral" in their reporting.

NBC's Andrea Mitchell suggested it was a natural rebuke: "All the talk of prayer prompted an angry tabloid headline in today's New York Daily News."

On CBS, morning anchor Gayle King said, "I thought this headline was very powerful." Later on CBS co-anchor Charlie Rose said, "I thought the headline was very powerful...As the New York Daily News said, God is not going to fix it, we have to fix it."

Washington Post columnist Gene Weingarten angrily wrote on Twitter, "Dear 'thoughts and prayers' people: Please shut up and slink away. You are the problem, and everyone knows it."

Timothy Egan writing for the New York Times says, "Politicians of one cowardly type will say their 'thoughts and prayers' are with you. What garbage. Better to say nothing at all."

Brent Bozell, President of Media Research Council, said, "Our largely secular press forget that radical Muslims see America as the Great Satan, as godless. Their promotion of this bigoted rant against God only deepens the terrorists' hatred for our country."

Perhaps the media's disdain for conservatism is only exceeded by their disdain for Christian conservatism.

After several days of strong push back by those pesky conservative Christians, some in the media are looking for a little cover.

Solon, a far Left "elite" publication, is now explaining, "It's not prayer shaming to say that a lot of us---a lot of us who find comfort in prayer---are sick of the very people whose rhetoric and policies are helping perpetuate a culture of death hiding helplessly behind God whenever blood is shed. Which happens quite often."

To say there is disgust on the part of Christians nationwide would be an understatement.

Franklin Graham, after seeing the New York Daily News headline wrote on Facebook, "They have the audacity to criticize politicians who had publicly offered prayers and asked for God's comfort following the killings, calling them 'cowards who could truly end the gun scourge'---shame on them."

But as Christians push back, the secular progressive media begin, ever so carefully, to revise their narrative---that's what progressives do.

The Slate, a highly read far left cultural online publication once owned by Microsoft under MSN and now owned by the Washington Post, is pushing the revision that the current prayer shaming isn't about prayer---it's actually about people who claim to pray, but don't do it---like Republicans and conservatives.

Slate and a couple of other secular Left progressive publications are now claiming they, as the prophets in the old Testament, are calling out pretense and false prophets who claim to pray, but don't actually pray.

It's an easy fix for the secular progressive who begins to feel the heat of public disapproval---change the truth.

A couple of thoughts come to my mind:

"A fool multiplies words, though no man knows what is to be, and who can tell him what will be after him?" (Ecclesiastes 10:14).

"Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing; a false prophet but inwardly are ravenous wolves" (Jesus- Matthew 7:15).

I'm reminded of the account of Elijah explaining to the King and his wife Jezebel why things were not working well in the kingdom. And his facing off with the prophets of Baal. And the ultimate outcome.

Be Prayerful. Be Discerning. Be Bold.
