President Obama Takes His Best Shot

A tearful president and a complicit press made the case for gun control yesterday.

The president is calling for more rights for those vulnerable to gun violence, while reminding the rest of us who are tired of the continual assault on personal freedom---including Second Amendment rights, "I get it."

Many believe he has abused the Constitution more than any other American president.

He warned conservatives through tears, "No matter how many times people try to twist my words around, I taught constitutional law, I know a little bit about this. I get it."

"We do not have to accept this carnage as the price of freedom," the president said.

Politico, most often a champion of the president's policies, reported, "President Obama wept openly Tuesday as he delivered a forceful defense of new executive actions on gun violence, a set of modest proposals to tighten loop holes that likely face quick legal challenges and could be vulnerable to reversal by a Republican White House."

The president introduced a new argument against gun ownership rights, noting that mass shootings have taken place as Americans have tried to exercise other rights, such as attending worship services or watching a movie.

He said the right to bear firearms is not more important than the right to worship freely, and that he hopes Congress is "brave enough to stand up against the gun lobby's lies."

Speaking of lies.

It is difficult to hear a man who, through the power of his office, has done more to undermine the freedom of religion and religious expression than any president in the history of the United States appear to attach value to the idea of worshiping freely.

As president, he has stood against the sanctity of life in his fanatical support of abortion and Planned Parenthood, and more than 5,000 years of cultural tradition that says marriage is only between a man and a woman.

He has defied God's Word and Nature in his crusade to redefine human sexuality, marriage and family.

His words need not be twisted---on their own merit they are hallow.

Ben Shapiro wrote a stinging rebuke of this dramatic attempt to undermine the Second Amendment by showing how the president disdains the Constitution.

Yesterday afternoon he wrote, "Obama’s knowledge of constitutional law seems to be limited to the theory that the executive branch can act in the absence of legislation... the president can do precisely what he pleases if Congress refuses to act. Not only do elements of Obama’s executive action on guns supersede existing law, they violate Second Amendment protections. Obama’s respect for the Second Amendment hasn't stopped him from repeatedly cheering Australia’s gun-confiscation regime."

Shapiro says, "But Obama’s dismissive attitude toward the Constitution didn’t stop at the Second Amendment. He actually suggested that government violations of the First and Fourth Amendments justified government violations of the Second."

He writes: "Obama has always seen the Constitution as an obstacle, whether negotiating with Iran in violation of Congress’ treaty power or whether ramming through executive action on illegal immigration or whether stacking the National Labor Relations Board in violation of law. The list goes on and on."

"So, no, you shouldn’t trust Obama to protect your Second Amendment rights," Shapiro tells his readers. "His tears are an emotional trump-card, meant to wash away those dusty parchment guarantees in favor of a richer world in which feelings dictate policy. In Obama’s view, you can’t cry over violations of the Constitution and the death of children – it’s one or the other. And he certainly isn’t crying over violations of the Constitution."

There was a great deal of skepticism, particularly among conservatives, regarding President Obama's tearful display of emotion.

Meghan McCain said she watched the address and it "didn't seem horribly authentic," while columnist Andrea Tantaros said, "I would check the podium for a raw onion."

Who knows what the president really believes? It's difficult to know---God knows, however, it is easy to observe the actions if one pays attention.

Mike Huckabee spoke to this moment last October following the shooting at Umpqua Community College in Oregon when he told CNN, "We always talk about what the weapon was, but whether it's a pressure cooker or whether it's a gun...We have not so much a gun problem---we have a problem with sin and evil."

Huckabee said, "This is an evil thing when people kill another person and it happens way too often."

We can elect presidents and leaders, and Christians and conservatives must involve ourselves in the political process, but until we address the "sin" problem, and the "evil" problem, the killing and the tears will continue."

The future of our nation and our culture is held in the hands of God, not under the gavel of a politician.

It is God Himself who sheds tears as He looks on the hypocrisy of weeping over gun violence, while celebrating the killing of unborn children with forceps.

When America sheds sincere tears of repentance, God will smile and once again bless America.
