Methodist Bishop: "Jesus Was A Bigot" -- Presbyterian Pastor: "Jesus Not Only Way To Heaven"

Bryan Fischer, with American Family Association, says, "United Methodist Dr. Karen Oliveto is an out, loud, and proud, non-celibate lesbian, and she thinks Jesus was an out-and-out bigot."

A prominent Presbyterian pastor---leader of the second largest Presbyterian Church (PSA) in America, has declared that Christianity is not the only way to heaven.

It's not surprising that George Barna's latest survey found that American Christians are confused about what the Bible teaches, and what they personally believe.

Fischer says, if you can believe it, the Methodist Bishop praises Jesus "for outgrowing His bigotry and prejudice, and showing us that we too can change."

Bishop Oliveto says, "If Jesus can change, if he can give up his bigotries and prejudices, if he can realize that he had made his life too small, and if, in his realization, he grew closer to others and closer to God, than so can we."

Fischer says he grabbed a digital copy before she deleted her comments as to why she believes this.

He says, "She cites the narrative in which Jesus initially remained silent to a Canaanite woman whose daughter was oppressed by a demon. When she shows persistence in her confidence that Jesus can help her, He praises her---'O woman, great is your faith!'---and answers her prayer---'Be it done for you as you desire'" (Matthew 15: 28).

The lesbian bishop takes Jesus initial response of silence, not as a test of the woman's faith which it clearly was, but as a display of raw prejudice and bigotry, Fischer says.

The point she is making is that Jesus didn't have everything figured out yet---like most of us---so this is about the personal spiritual growth of Jesus learning, growing and finally "coming around," which is the mantra of the homosexual activists.

She quotes someone else to the effect that "Jesus wasn't a know-it-all, he was also learning God's will like any human being and finally changed his mind...if Jesus...could grow into new and deeper understanding...maybe so can we.

She says Jesus was someone who learned that "bigotry and oppression... keep all of us from being whole."

The bishop's view of Christ is both blasphemous and heretical.

Fischer's article is excellent. I encourage you to read it. He says, "If Jesus is not who He claimed to be, then all of us are still dead in our sins with no hope of eternal life"...concluding, "Jesus is not the bigot here. Bishop Karen Oliveto is. Perhaps its time for her to give up her ' bigotries and prejudices' about the Son of God and the Savior of the World."

But this is isolated, right?

Rev. Shannon Johnson Kershner, leader of the 5,500 member Fourth Presbyterian Church in Chicago---the second largest congregation in the Presbyterian Church (PSA), has declared that Christianity is not the only way to heaven.

In addition to Jesus being labeled as a "bigot," Rev. Kershner is essentially calling Him a liar.

When the Chicago Sun Times asked her the question, "Is Christianity the only way to heaven?" she bluntly replied, "No."

She said, "God's not a Christian. I mean, we are...For me, the Christian tradition is the way to understand God and my relationship with the world and other humans and it's a way for me to move into that relationship but I'm not about to say what God can and cannot do in other ways and with other spiritual experiences."

The Bible is abundantly clear on the issue of how one goes to heaven.

Jesus said in John 14:6, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father [God] except through me."

In Acts 4:12, Peter said of Jesus, "Salvation is found in no other, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which they must be saved."

I wish I could say this is isolated, but unfortunately, it isn't.

Desperate for more members in the pew, and increased influence, too many pastors are leaning away from the truth of God's Word toward what they believe to be a more welcoming and friendly message cloaked as "the Gospel."

Following the aftermath of the Las Vegas shootings a week ago, Rev. Kershner said: "God has some explaining to do."

According to Scripture, some pastors will also have some explaining to do.

In what was Paul's last letter to the Church before he would be executed for the faith, he wrote to Timothy (II Timothy 4: 2,3, 4), "Preach the Word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and teaching. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth and be turned aside to fables."

This is such a time.

George Barna's latest survey of the Christian church in America verifies that apparently too many are hearing fables.

While Barna's focus in this survey is on abortion and the church, it speaks in a broader sense to the church at large.

Consider these facts from the survey:

  • There has been a broad and consistent decline in Christian commitment, resulting in declining church attendance, Bible reading, conversions-- i.e. accepting Christ as personal Savior, and development of a biblical worldview.
  • There has been a corresponding rise in narcissism, with the new generation dismissing the notion of absolute moral truth while advancing the importance of personal choice, convenience, and comfort, as well as individual happiness. They try to avoid conflict at all cost.
  • He found that most theologically conservative evangelical churches in the US refuse to teach people how to think biblically about controversial issues. Among the issues he found to be ignored from the pulpit are religious persecution, sexual identity, Israel, poverty, and cultural restoration.
  • Barna concludes Christians are confused about what they actually believe, and "Increasing numbers of Americans are separating their religious beliefs from their moral choices."
  • "They are making their choices based on emotion rather than logic or faith." And Barna concludes, "That is a recipe for convoluted reasoning and indefensible positions."

Enter lesbian Bishop Dr. Karen Oliveto and Presbyterian Pastor Shannon Kershner---and too many others like them---thus creating a state of confusion in the name of the Lord.

In Paul's final words to Timothy and to the billions who have and do follow Jesus Christ, he wrote, "But be watchful in all things...I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith..."

Be Informed. Be Watchful. Be Faithful. Be Prayerful.

  1. How in the world did this even happen? The congregation needs to see that she is thrown out, and not allowed in, even as a congregant, unless there is real repentance and she can show some change of life.

    1. God told us to hate the sin, but to love the sinner! Too many churches (of all Denominations) would rather just expel a person like these! I believe Jesus wants us to yes take this person out of any position of leadership in the church! But we should try to show them the what the truth is in Christ Jesus! If they refuse to acknowledge Christ’s way as the only way, then let them go their way outside of the church! We must remember to turn away from sin, least we be also tempted to sin! We need to stay focused on Our Lord Jesus Christ in all things!

    2. This has not suddenly happened. All mainstream Christian denominations have been increasingly debased for at least 100 years by the infiltration of non-orthodox teaching at seminaries, and the deliberate politicization of the denominations by those on the left. Traditional seminaries do not require biblical teaching, and in many cases, do not even resemble a Christian training of any kind. In denominations such as the Episcopal church, failure by bishops in decades past to oust what are essentially non-believing priests has resulted in those same non-believers becoming bishops, where power is wielded to keep all orthodox Christian priests from attaining jobs in their dioceses. Too many Christians simply didn't want to rock the boat and chose to say nothing when it would have been possible to save the situation. By this time, the only thing to do is leave churches with poor teaching and refuse to contribute one dime to any church organization which is merely a left-wing self-congratulation temple, and that means nearly all of them. Eventually, the beast will run out of money, since natural laziness means, without real belief in Jesus the Christ, there is not much inducement to get up and out of bed on Sunday AM, get dressed, and drive to church. Anthony, you sound like a kindly person, but you are naive or living in some kind of bubble. It's nearly impossible to get rid of a priest/pastor, much more so a bishop, and besides, these denominations are pretty much non-believing up to the very top. The viciousness to be seen in the Episcopalian clerics is a pretty clear testimony to the spirit of Godlessness to be found there. As an example, I can point out a widely shown news photo of the bishop of Cleveland Ohio leading a special blessing ceremony for Planned Parenthood. There is a huge difference between Christian pro-choicers (misguided though I believe them to be), and fabricating a ceremony to celebrate a business earning money from performing abortions and selling discarded baby parts, don't you think? The traditional practice of the church requires excommumication, which simply means that this person no longer be considered one of the body of the church, which he/she/they clearly are not. It doesn't mean that the believer should ignore the person or not try to reach them, but it does mean that you have to start at square one, with them, in other words, treat thenm as you would any non-believer, with love, and patience. But there is nothing to be gained but confusion from pretending that people like these are Christians.

    3. It has happened because people do not pray and read the Bible for themselves. And, there are many (as this person) who are false teachers in the church and seminaries.

  2. Is it any wonder America is going to hell in a hand basket with teaching like this??

  3. The LAST " Christian" church we TRIED..
I questioned the lack of an invitation,,

The reply was.."We are a small church, we do not have room" .......

    1. Big red flag indeed! If they have that mentality, they will always stay small! They will not grow as Jesus wants them to!

  4. These are the same people who in their personal relationships lie, cheat, steal and betray, and one needs to put as much distance between them and yourself as possible.

The fact they are in such a position of authority is a clear sign of the last days

    2Th_2:3  Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

2Ti 3:1  This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2Ti 3:2  For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
2Ti 3:3  Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
    2Ti 3:4  Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
2Ti 3:5  Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

  5. "Desperate for more members in the pew"? She has 5,500 adult members? I doubt that's her motivation.

  7. Jezebel spirits, for certain.

  8. If you've got issues, then sort them out or go take a hike. Don't play with God, otherwise you won't like the consequences. He put all of existence in Jesus Christ's hands and appointed him, saviour of the world by who's sacrifice we're given passage to heaven. Also, go tell the one who taught you that to either, get straight or get out. Hell ain't no place I wanna call home, and I sure don't like liars neither.

  9. So Jesus learned, changed, grew in knowledge. What bible tells us that. My bible tells me that Jesus was / is The Word of God. The Logos. The word became flesh and dwelt amoung us. In the beginning was the Word. He was with God in the beginning. He is God. My bible says God is all knowing, among other things. So when God became flesh and dwelt amount us, did He suddenly cease being God? My bible says He is fully God and fully human. There are a few things God can't or won't do. Can't learn because He knows all. Can't change because He is perfect. Karen Oliveto must be removed. There are many working through due process to cause this to happen. The Western Jurisdiction is fighting to keep her. The Western Jurisdiction is spiritually and morally bankrupt. I pray that my association with this division of Methodism do to my geographic dwelling, is not to be for much more time. Because of these heritics, division of the Methodist church is on the near horizon. Praise God.

  10. Jesus teaches us to hate the sin but to love the sinner! He also teaches us to turn away from all sin and to flee from that source of sin! My take from This that these to leaders in their respective churches are false prophets who need to be stripped if their positions in their respective churches and given the opportunity to repent of heretical and blasphemous teachings and if they refuse, they should be expelled from the church! I’m not calling for a witch hunt here! But they must not go against truth of the Word of God! Homosexuality is an abomination to God! Calling Jesus a bigot is a lie from the depths of hell! Calling Jesus a normal man who learned as he lived his life is another lie from hell! He is God in the flesh! Did he know everything? He knew all that the father allowed him to know, which was a whole lot more than the rest of the people then and now know!

  11. One thing Dr. Karen Oliveto got right is that we need to learn from Jesus and follow Him. As we do so we must guard against the tendency to use Him and His Word as support what we we "want to be true" as opposed to what God's word clearly says is true through repeated statements and examples.

Both these pastors violate "God's truth" by interjecting "Their truth" and trying to justify it by twisting Jesus words or God's word in scripture. False teachers do this, because Satan is the "father of all lies and deception" and as we see deception growing all around us we know Satan is succeeding.

Christianity is the West is increasingly coming under attack, both through persecution and through manipulation and distortion. Martyrs to Christ number the highest/year than ever in history yet we in the West are not paying attention. If we stand silent and do not boldly speak out the truth with conviction and courage Satan's unwitting minions will gain momenteum, confidence, and self-righteousness. If we only pray and then blame God for the answer, but fail to take action ourselves, one day we will find it is too late to stand for truth with any hope of changing the tide.

Our Lord gave us free will for more than one reason...

    Truth is a lonely warrior...
