North Korea Winning The Olympics?

North Korea, led by one of the most brutal regimes on the face of the earth, has become the darling of American media.

The New York Times, Washington Post, CNN, NPR, ABC, NBC, PBS---even the thought-to-be more conservative Wall Street Journal are all trying to normalize the slave state of North Korea through their coverage of the Olympics...even suggesting Kim's sister is "outflanking America's Vice President Pence in diplomacy."

John Nolte is one of a number of conservative journalists who are calling out America's so-called "news" media.

He writes, "... over the weekend, we witnessed almost every major news outlet prostitute itself to offer North Korea’s Hitler the kind of positive press coverage President Trump would never receive, even if he rescued our economy and decimated the Islamic State (oh, wait, he did)."

He says, "Yep, over the weekend, CNN, the New York Times, the Washington Post, NPR, ABC, NBC, PBS, even the Wall Street Journal… these big media outlets (and more) colluded with murderous North Korean tyrants to normalize their slave state, to romanticize a murderous regime that comes complete with concentration camps, public executions in the thousands, and actual slaves."

He's not overstating this. I haven't been surprised that the media would celebrate North Korea in the way they have, but have been shocked at the height to which they have taken it.

Nolte says, "No one should have to explain to anyone with anything approaching moral literacy why there is no difference between North Korea and the Nazis---except for the tragic fact that communist North Korea has existed about 50 years longer than the socialist Third Reich."

The New York Times tweeted, "Without a word, only flashing smiles, Kim Jong-un's sister outflanked Vice President Pence in diplomatic image-making at the winter Olympics."

Reuters News Service tweeted, "North Korea judged winner of diplomatic gold at Olympics."

CNN tweeted, "Kim Jong Un's sister is stealing the show at the winter Olympics."

ABC tweeted, "North Korea's 200-plus cheerleaders steal the spotlight at 2018 Winter Olympics with matching outfits, synchronized chants."

PBS News Hour is asking, "Did Vice President Pence miss an opportunity by not engaging in any way with the North Koreans?" Then answers: "He did. His behavior was boorish and politically tone deaf."

Washington Post tweeted, "Kim Yo Jong, the 'Ivanka Trump of North Korea,' enthralls people in the South."

Esquire Magazine tweeted, "North Korea's Cheerleaders are the most mesmerizing Part of the Winter Olympics.

And it goes on and on and on and on.

Propaganda is the necessary component for these despots to sustain their statist terror, and the western media should also get the "gold" for their work in facilitating the Jong family propaganda machine.

Patrick Goodenough, also a conservative writer, says, "Kim Jong-un's younger sister, the subject of breathless media coverage as she smiled her way through a three-day visit to the Winter Olympics in South Korea, heads up the regime's department responsible for lying to its people about the behavior of a regime whose atrocities have been described as 'without parallel in the modern world'."

Pence attended the opening ceremonies with the goal of diverting some attention away from the last minute decision of North Korea to attend and play to the media. Pence visited a memorial to the 46 South Korean sailors killed when their boat was torpedoed by North Korea in 2010. Pence and his wife also met with 4 defectors from North Korea, who were also accompanied by Fred Warmbier, the father of the American student who died shortly after being released from a North Korea prison. He was released only after he slipped into a coma from mistreatment in the prison.

Pence told the defectors that he and his wife "wanted the honor of meeting with men and women who fled the tyranny of North Korea..." saying he also wanted to be sure "the world hears your stories as well."

The press wanted none of that. They barely covered the story. The world did not hear their stories.

This is yet another way to attempt to undermine the Trump administration, even if it requires near worship of one of the most cruel, evil leaders on the globe. And involves a disservice to America in the process.

Why?

The media has become accustomed to politicians having a fear of the media---or at least a fear of offending them resulting in negative coverage.

Enter Trump. He speaks his mind and refuses to let reporters get control of his press conferences and calls them out when they lie or misrepresent. The White House press secretary Sara Huckabee Sanders echoes that same approach in her own way. Neither are one of them.

The press in recent years has become an entity unto itself---unchecked, unrivaled, spinning, twisting, and flavoring the truth according to the flavor of the day.

However, social media has crashed their party and is continuing to do so increasingly---particularly with a president who uses social media as effectively as President Trump. The big media are no longer the biggest thing in town. More people now get their news and information from radio and social media than from the big 3 of the fourth estate.

What was formerly royalty, these once news information empires have been reduced to TV shows gasping for their next breath---talking faster (ABC), appealing more and more to the far Left (NBC), or simply going away with a mere whimper (CBS)---this while CNN has become the King of Crazy.

Most major city newspapers march to the same drumbeat.

Trump has created an art form of going around the press and directly to the people. He has shattered the kingdom. I personally believe that is what this is all about...And if it hurts our country in the process?

Collateral damage. And it's Trump's fault. Or Pence's fault. Or the conservative's fault.

Mark Twain once said: "Do not fear the enemy, for your enemy can only take your life. It is far better that you fear the media, for they will steal your HONOR. That awful power, the public opinion of a nation, is created in America by a horde of ignorant, self-complacent simpletons who failed at ditching and shoemaking and fetched up in journalism on their way to the poorhouse."
