"Looking backward in a few years, it is entirely possible that we will see that December 2021 was the high watermark of the great progressive coup when Leftists reached out for the brass ring, but their soft, girlish hands were too weak to grasp it."
Presbyterian Pastor, evangelist, and Professor Charles Finney said, "The Church must take back right ground in regard to politics."
Should the Church of Jesus Christ accept cultural defeat as inevitable? Absolutely not.
It is written, "Greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world."
Why I believe the tide is turning.
Be informed, not misled.
About the political tide.
Kurt Schlichter wrote yesterday in Townhall:
"Looking backward in a few years, it is entirely possible that we will see that December 2021 was the high-water mark of the progressive coup when Leftists reached out for the brass ring, but their soft, girlish hands were too weak to grasp it. It is all downhill for them from here, though that is not entirely clear to us right now. When Gandalf returned from getting balrogged in the Lord of the Rings flicks, he says, 'I come back to you now, at the turn of the tide.' Except that all their big battles were still ahead. And even if the tide has turned for us too, so are ours."
He says of the culture war, "The fog of war is thick and opaque, but as we enter a new year, the odds grow ever in our favor."
Politically, Schlichter is well connected and well informed.
He continues to check off his political reasons why he believes that the so-called "progressive" Left has begun its decline in American politics. His reasons include "President Asterisk," as he calls President Biden. He writes that the president is failing on every front and now even the Left is calling for a change in the White House.
He continues:
Us wokecons sniff at the constant stream of photos of maskless richies dining as masked servants stand mute, or of hard 5 (though probably DC 8) congressgirls sipping cosmos with their beta boyfriends in the Free State of Florida. We know these people are hypocrites who don’t believe a word of their monotonous Marxist monologues. But normal folks who don’t live on Twitter are shocked by them not doing what they demand we do. It matters to normal people because, adorably, they still have a residual belief in the essential integrity of the system. When they encounter hypocrisy among their ruling caste, they get offended. It matters, and they hate it.
Schlichter notes that our enemies are dumb. And arrogant too. They really do think that they are geniuses and that we are idiots. But we should not deceive ourselves into thinking it is going to be easy. "They will not just walk away from their power and prestige without a struggle," he says. "They will fight, and not fairly. We are already seeing it with the Jan 6 inquisition."
He says:
They will start with a “commemoration” of the terrible, horrible, insurrectionary assault on democracy and stuff of January 6th, though usually, that kind of activity takes place on a Jeffrey Toobin Zoom call or on the streets of a blue city. They will talk about a Republican coup while moms swear at having to pay double for milk under Biden compared with what they paid under Trump. Feel free to fight over Muh Democracy, Dems; we’ll fight over real stuff and kick your Swalwells.
Down the road, we may well look at this winter of Democrat discontent as the turning point. It is not a done deal. We need to keep fighting. But odds are that we’re going to win. In fact, we may have already won.
About the Church and the culture.
He led people, thousands of people, to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, while challenging the Church to be "the Church" in the culture---He said much about the importance of the Church in the culture---including this:
The Church must take right ground in regard to politics...Politics are a part of a religion in such a country as this, and Christians must do their duty to the country as part of their duty to God...God will bless or curse this nation, according to the course Christians take in politics.
It's clear that until Jesus returns, this world will be messed up, marked by pain and suffering, and sin.
But that doesn't mean we simply accept defeat as inevitable. Or that we accept a mentality of hopelessness. Or that we develop a theology of pessimism---like, "It's only going to get worse until Jesus comes, so why should I bother?"
Michael Brown notes that the "Bible encourages us to have the mentality of overcomers and victors. And our perspective is, no matter how dark the surrounding world might be, God's light shines in that darkness---and the darkness cannot overcome it (I John 1:5)."
So God's people should always be looking for ways to "take back ground."
A major push-back has already started. I talk about these incidents regularly on our daily radio program. Parents are sick and tired of the way public education is "indoctrinating" rather than "educating"; female athletes are sick and tired of competing against boys who call themselves girls; people, in general, are sick and tired of endless riots on our city streets, the destruction of monuments and the erasure of our history---all in the name of "wokeness" and "equity."
Fox News reports: “Cynthia Millen stepped down last week after officiating USA Swimming meets for over three decades. Her decision came days before the U.S. Paralympics Swimming National Championships in Greensboro, N.C.”
This was due to the outrage of biological male swimmer Will “Lia” Thomas competing unfairly against females, based on Thomas’s alleged female identity.
As Millen said on Tucker Carlson, “The fact is that swimming is a sport in which bodies compete against bodies. Identities do not compete against identities. Men are different from women, men swimmers are different from women, and they will always be faster than women.”
Will others soon follow suit? Will the NCAA have an awakening (and repent of its absurd wokeness)? Will the tide turn from the embrace of cultural insanity to compassion for those struggling with gender confusion coupled with fairness for female sports? Will reality prevail over perception?
About reality
And speaking of reality, Rasmussen Reports notes that, “75% of American Adults agree that there are only two genders, male and female. That total includes 63% who Strongly Agree. Eighteen percent (18%) disagree.”
Additionally, “By more than a 3-to-1 margin, Americans oppose a key educational policy of the transgender movement. Sixty-eight percent (68%) believe schools and teachers should not be allowed to counsel students on their sexual and gender identities without parental knowledge or consent. Only 19% believe schools should be allowed to engage in such counseling without parental consent.”
Takeaway
I sincerely believe there is a growing push-back by ordinary folks across this nation. I believe we'll see evidence of this in the 2022 midterm elections.
We are entering a time of "taking back ground."
Rev. Charles Finney also said, "Let us rid ourselves...of neglecting to preach the law of God until the consciences of men are asleep."
Continuing, he wrote in his article "The Decay Of Conscience"--- published in "The Independent of New York:"
"If immorality prevails in the land, the fault is ours in a great degree. If there is decay in conscience, the pulpit is responsible for it. If the Church is degenerate and worldly, the pulpit is responsible for it. If Satan rules in our halls of legislation, the pulpit is responsible for it. If our politics become so corrupt that the very foundations of our government are ready to fall away, the pulpit is responsible for it."
"Let us not ignore this fact, my dear brethren," he told his colleagues, "but let us lay it to heart, and be thoroughly awake to our responsibility in respect to the morals of this nation."
It's time to stand up and speak the Truth to a culture that is desperately in need of Truth.
