How Mickey Mouse Lost His Way

Over the past week or so, America and the world have watched and listened as Disney has morphed from "The Happiest Place on Earth" to a sad place---a place of activism, controversy, suspicion, and advocating for an assault on young minds.

Walt Disney often told the story of how, as he watched his own kids playing in a city park, he dreamed of a park where parents and children alike could come and enjoy.

Thus Disneyland was born.

This week, Roy P. Disney explained what happened to "Mickey." And why.

Be informed, not misled.

Mickey's conversion.

The Washington Times is reporting this:

Roy P. Disney, the grand-nephew of Disneyland founder Walt Disney, jumped Tuesday into the feud between Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and the Disney empire with a fundraising plea in which he disclosed that he has a transgender child.

Mr. Disney, whose grandfather Roy O. Disney founded the company with his brother Walt, said in a fundraising pitch for the Human Rights Campaign that he was “heartbroken” over the Florida bill barring schools from discussing gender identity and sexual orientation with students in grades K-3.

“My wife, Sheri, and I have been members of HRC for over 20 years,” said Mr. Disney in the email. “Equality matters deeply to us, especially because our child, Charlee, is transgender and a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community.”

So it isn't only a  group of activist employees threatening to walk off the job if Disney doesn't march to their tune---it's Disney family members who are personally involved with the homosexual movement.

Grand nephew Roy P. Disney isn't merely giving some kind of passive assent to the lifestyle of the child he loves---he's all in.

Human Rights Campaign (HRC) is the largest homosexual activist organization in the country. Their annual budget was $44.7 million in 2020.

Roy P. has currently offered to match gifts of up to $500,000 or more as part of a campaign to help raise a million dollars for HRC.

Mr. Disney says it was "simply despicable that state legislators and governors are using fear and lies to rally their base...trying to erase LGBTQ+ youth from school to sports, flat-out telling transgender and non-binary youth that they don't belong, revoking the rights of the LGBTQ+ community."

He went on to refer to bills passed in 13 states, including Florida, barring male-born athletes from competing in female sports.

Continuing he said, "We were heartbroken when Ron DeSantis signed the 'Don't Say Gay' or 'Trans'  law in Florida. The fight isn't over, and we are determined to do everything we can to stop this from happening in other states."

"We are dedicated to standing up for the rights and safety of LGBTQ+ members of the Disney family, as well as the LGBTQ+ community in Florida and across the country."

Clearly, this is not a knee-jerk reaction by Roy P Disney based on his comment that he and his wife have been involved with HRC for 20 years.

So the question is "How much influence does he have on The Walt Disney Company (TWDC)?"

It's unclear, but he is not a member of the board of directors. His father, Roy E. Disney, was a longtime senior executive with the company. He died in 2009.

Another look at the so-called "Don't say gay" bill.

It was never about saying gay or not saying gay...or "trans" which has now been added to the made-up name of the bill.

In March Florida Democrats rallied against Gov. DeSantis, calling for his defeat in 2022 in order to end "the cruelty that has been inflicted upon our state."

They ridiculed DeSantis for standing against The Walt Disney Company...chanting, "Let's say gay, Let's say gay, Let's say gay."

The opposition against the bill is either outright lying or almost totally uninformed. There is nothing in the bill that limits speech---"gay" or any other word or words.

The bill specifically prohibits K-3rd graders from being taught about transgenderism. Anyone who thinks that teaching 5 year-olds about transgenders, non-binary, etc., is inappropriate is completely uninformed or perverted.

The bill also greatly strengthens parental authority regarding what kids are taught in public schools in Florida.

That's what it's about. It's not about saying or not saying gay. Some describe the bill as an "anti-grooming" bill.

How does the country feel about all this?

A Rasmussen Reports survey taken Tuesday of this week finds that 28% of American adults believe the emphasis on "inclusion" and "diversity" by companies like Disney is making children's entertainment better.

That's surprising, at least to me---and very disappointing that 28% of American adults think teaching 5-year-olds about transgenerism is a good thing.

The survey found that 45% think it's a bad thing. The rest are confused and don't know what they believe.

Fox News also polled a number of people randomly. Here are some of their responses:

  • Disney World and Disneyland have decided to ban the use of "gender greetings" within their parks — so the terms "boys and girls" and "ladies and gentlemen" will no longer be uttered by employees on Disney grounds.
  • Patti Garibay, an Ohio-based parent and grandparent, is the executive director and founder of American Heritage Girls, a faith-focused alternative to the Girl Scouts. She told Fox News Digital this week via email, "It is time to void your household of all things Disney."
  • Garibay also said, "Christians should wake up to the fact that this isn't your grandmother's Disney. In fact," she said, "Disney is now devoted to confusing your children."
  • "Today's Disney," said one mom and grandmother, "promotes a full spectrum of lifestyles that rarely align with the biblical values of good and evil."

She explained, "Walt Disney most often cited his most important lesson as that of ‘goodwill always triumphs over evil.’ Today's Disney promotes a full spectrum of lifestyles that rarely align with the biblical values of good and evil, which God calls us to."

She continued, "It has been said before and it bears saying again, ‘Walt would turn over in his grave’ to see what his beloved company has become."

Added Garibay, "It's no longer a safe haven for families to promote good over evil, but rather an environment without a moral compass."

  • A Tennessee father of a 10-month-old daughter told Fox News Digital, "As a new father, I have decided not to expose my baby to any of Disney's products — anything they stream, or the theme parks. There are so many other wholesome options for her."
  • A mother and grandmother in her early 60s who lives outside Boston, Mass., told Fox News Digital in an email on Thursday, "I gave up on Disney years ago when they started opening the parks up for gay pride activities while families were there."
  • "A children's theme park is no place for this. You can't promote both innocence and sex at the same time. This was a clear signal to families about where they are headed as a company."
  • Judge Phil Ginn, a father of four daughters and president of Southern Evangelical Seminary (SES) in Charlotte, N.C. said, "Who would have ever thought that Mickey would turn politically correct? But apparently, he has, with a vengeance."

Takeaway

Trent Talbot, a father of two in Houston, Texas, is the founder and CEO of BRAVE Books, as well as the author of "The Fight for Freedom Island." He told Fox: "Disney has surrendered to the woke mob and is using its platform to indoctrinate the children of America into becoming the woke activists of tomorrow."
