Ex-Intelligence Officials Mislead America

Ex-Intelligence officials who said the Hunter Biden laptop story was a Russian operation are silent after Twitter files were released this weekend showing they misled the American people.

Clearly, it had nothing to do with Russia.

As I read the articles this weekend about how some of our nation's most powerful leaders lied to the public regarding the content of  Hunter Biden's laptop to facilitate his father, Joe Biden, being elected to the presidency, and how the media discussed how best to kill the story before the election, I was reminded of Dietrich Bonhoeffer's comment: "Silence in the face of evil is itself evil: God will not hold us guiltless. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act."

Some of  America's most important leaders entrusted with the safety and security of our nation misled the people. And they continue to do so with their silence.

The media was complicit. Now neither the media nor the officials will answer their calls on the matter.

Be informed, not misled.

Former top intelligence officials who signed an open letter suggesting the Hunter Biden laptop story was part of a Russian operation just weeks before the 2020 election were silent after internal Twitter emails acknowledged there was no evidence the story involved material that was illicitly obtained.

The New York Post broke the story on Saturday.

Leon Panetta, a former CIA director and defense secretary, John Brennan, a former CIA director, Mike Hayden, a former CIA director, and Jim Clapper, a former director of national intelligence — who all once said the Post’s reporting had "all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation have now declined to respond to the fact that they lied to the nation just prior to the 2020 presidential election."

Regarding the letter that likely changed the outcome of the 2020 presidential election.

The open letter was dated October 19, 2020, just weeks before the November 8 presidential election.

It said this is part: "We are all individuals who devoted significant portions of our lives to national security. Some of us served in senior positions in policy departments and agencies, and some of us served in senior positions in the Intelligence Community. Some of us were political appointees, and some were career officials. Many of us worked for presidents of both political parties."

"We are all also individuals who see Russia as one of our nation's primary adversaries. All of us have an understanding of the wide range of Russian overt and covert activities that undermine our national security, with some of us knowing Russian behavior intimately, as we worked to defend our nation against it as a career. A few of us worked against Russian information operations in the United States in the last several years."

After establishing their high qualifications in identifying Russian interference in the affairs of the US, they said, "...[this matter] makes us deeply suspicious that the Russian government played a significant role  in this case."

This case, of course, was the clear evidence found on Hunter Biden's laptop and reported by the New York Post.

The left, including these self-proclaimed patriots, wanted to blame Russia while silencing any further discussion about Hunter and the Biden family's involvement with foreign governments. Particularly corrupt foreign governments.

Why would they deny what many among them knew to be true?

The reason for the open letter, they said, "each of us believes deeply that American citizens should determine the outcome of elections, not foreign governments. All of us agree with the founding fathers' concern about the damage that foreign interference in our politics can do to our democracy."

They gave a clear message to a complicit American media complex to not report on anything having to do with Hunter's laptop until after the election---if at all.

The letter says, "If we are right, this is Russia trying to influence how Americans vote in  this election, and we believe strongly that Americans should be aware of this."

They continued to make their case to the public and the media that the surfacing of the laptop just prior to an election fits the Russian M.O. by trying to create chaos and deepen the political divisions in the United States.

They said the Russian motive was to "undermine the candidacy of former Vice President Biden and thereby help the candidacy of  President Trump. For the Russians at this point, with Trump down in the polls, there is an incentive for Moscow to pull out all the stops to do anything possible to help Trump win and/or to weaken Biden should he win. A laptop fits the bill as the publication of the emails is clearly designed to discredit Biden."

The media, of course, went along with the far-left narrative to kill the story, because it was all conceived to undermine Joe Biden's bid to be President.

Two years later

Elon Musk has now purchased Twitter and has told the public he will release all the emails pertaining to the "laptop story" Twitter has in its archives.

He released a ton of them this weekend with more to come.

On Friday, journalist Matt Taibbi released internal Twitter emails discussing the company’s decision to suppress the story — which included locking the Post‘s Twitter account, deleting tweets that linked the story, or tweets that even referenced the story.

Breitbart News reported this Saturday:

The emails showed that Twitter officials decided to take these actions on the possibility the story contained hacked materials, even though there was no evidence or a government finding of any hacked materials. The emails also showed that some Twitter employees questioned using that justification.

Then Twitter communications official Trenton Kennedy asked other officials about that justification: “I’m struggling to understand the policy basis for marking this as unsafe.”

Another official, then-Vice President of Global Communications Brandon Borman, asked, “Can we truthfully claim that this is part of the policy?”

Five days after questions were raised at Twitter about relying on a hacking justification to suppress the story, more than 50 former intelligence officials published an open letter on October 19, 2020, that argued that, based on their experience and expertise, the story came from the Russian government.

Breitbart says, "The letter worked to cast aspersion on a blockbuster story that potentially implicated then-Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden just weeks before the election."

Here are some of the threads from the story.

Several key points from the thread so far:

  • The decision to censor the Hunter Biden laptop story was made without the knowledge of CEO Jack Dorsey.
  • Trust & Safety chief Vijaya Gadde, long believed to be the driving force of censorship at the company, spearheaded the decision.
  • Numerous top Twitter employees, especially from the communications and policy teams — whose job is to maintain relations with lawmakers and the press — expressed concern at the decision.
  • Immediate warnings from Twitter’s Washington D.C. contacts followed, including an email from Democrat representative Ro Khanna (D-CA) who warned the decision had generated a “huge backlash” on capitol hill and expressed concerns about Twitter undermining the freedom to publish.

Most Democrats reportedly complained that Twitter had not gone far enough in its censorship of the press.

This lines up with what Democrats attempted to do after Biden took office: use the power of the federal government to force more censorship on social media, including the infamous “disinformation governance board” of DHS.

Democrats, with the surprising backing of some Republicans, are now trying to force the bill through in a defense spending package, even as conservative senators warn it will increase censorship and further bias social media platforms towards the legacy media.

When pushed on how government might legally press social media companies to censor, Democrat lawmakers reportedly said “the First Amendment isn’t absolute.”

Takeaway

Scripture is clear that there are always consequences when corrupt leadership is in power.

Hosea 9:9 says, "They have deeply corrupted themselves, as in the days of Gibeah: therefore he will remember their iniquity, he will visit their sins."

Psalm 58:1-5 says "Psalm 58:1-5

1. Do ye indeed speak righteousness, O congregation? do ye judge uprightly, O ye sons of men?

2. Yea, in heart ye work wickedness; ye weigh the violence of your hands in the earth.

3. The wicked are estranged from the womb: they go astray as soon as they be born, speaking lies.

4. Their poison is like the poison of a serpent: they are like the deaf adder that stoppeth her ear;

5. Which will not hearken to the voice of charmers, charming never so wisely.
