In congratulating his home state legislature this week for passing the most pro-life legislation in the nation, Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) said, "If a heartbeat is detected, it must be protected."
Not everyone is cheering.
In fact, some are accusing the Iowa State Assembly of colluding with their Rep. King to create a circumstance where Roe v Wade could be successfully challenged before the Supreme Court.
Imagine that.
Iowa's Senate File 359 protects babies with a detectable heartbeat from being aborted.
The legislation passed both chambers this week and is now awaiting the Republican, pro-life Governor Kim Reynolds' signature to become law.
Rep. King, a strong pro-life advocate, said, "With their votes. the Iowa legislature has heroically placed our state in the forefront of efforts to protect innocent, unborn life from the abortionists."
He said, "It was a deeply moral and principled vote, and it reflects our shared Iowa values by ensuring that if a heartbeat is detected, the baby must be protected."
And he said, "Gov. Reynolds is the most pro-life governor in Iowa's history and I have confidence in her and I anticipate this bill will become law."
The Abortion Industry is near panic
Abortionists and their advocates---Planned Parenthood and others, agree with King---and they are near panic.
Reuters is calling the law the most "restrictive abortion ban in the United States"..."outlawing the procedure [the procedure is abortion] after a fetal heartbeat is detected, often at six-weeks and before a woman realizes she is pregnant."
Reuters says, "The legislation is aimed at triggering a challenge to Roe v Wade...which established that women have a constitutional right to an abortion..."
They say, "Abortion opponents aim to land abortion questions back in front of the nation's top court, where they believe the 5-4 conservative majority could sharply curtail abortion access or ban it outright."
Becca Lee, with Planned Parenthood, says this is an "intentionally unconstitutional ban on 99 percent of safe, legal abortion, designed to challenge Roe v Wade."
Iowa Republican State Senator Rick Bertrand of Sioux says they're right, "We created an opportunity to take a run at Roe v Wade--100 percent."
What's the next step?
King says, "It’s time to challenge – and overturn – the Roe v. Wade decision legalizing abortion."It was a pleasure supporting the efforts of members of Iowa’s House and Senate to secure passage of Senate File 359. Legislators share my belief, and the belief of the many pro-life organizations that joined in this effort, that the time is right for a challenge to Roe v. Wade to occur.
On the federal level, we have a pro-life House of Representatives, a pro-life United States Senate, a pro-life President, and a United States Supreme Court that may well be receiving a new Constitutionalist Justice in the near future.
We should pair a federal Heartbeat Bill with the Iowa Heartbeat Bill to set the stage for the complete overturn of the Supreme Court’s terrible Roe v. Wade decision.
Rep. King’s federal Heartbeat Protection Act has 171 cosponsors and the support of 162 pro-life organizations and leaders. On the House floor on April 27, Congressman King detailed his “Four Open Windows” strategy for outlawing abortion.
Please pray for Rep. King and others who are boldly standing against the abortion culture in an effort to stop the killing of babies, by killing the worst, most immoral law ever passed by our Congress.
Be Informed. Be Discerning. Be Faithful. Be Engaged. Be Prayerful.
