"President Pelosi?" Press Hopefully Speculates

As the Democrats move their impeachment agenda forward---CNN, The Washington Post, and other news organizations are hopeful as to how Nancy Pelosi could actually become President of the United States.

I suspect that's crossed her mind as well.

Be informed.

The progressive dream.

House Democrats are moving their agenda forward in the effort to impeach President Trump.

They have natural allies in the press. CNN is speculating whether one unintended consequence could see Vice President Mike Pence also taken out, leaving the way clear for Nancy Pelosi to become president.

Paul Callan, a CNN legal analyst, is suggesting that both Trump and Pence might be drawn into the Ukraine inquiry, clearing the way constitutionally for Pelosi to move into the Oval Office.

He says,
"What might follow could be a double impeachment scenario that would make heads spin and House Speaker Pelosi the president of the United States. After Pence, she's next in the line of succession."

Then he immediately concedes this may be just a dream if Trump and Pence were both implicated in the scandal---then with his last breath of fresh air on the possibility---he says:
"If Pence resigned or was removed first, Trump could appoint a new vice president before he leaves office, thus picking his successor before leaving office himself. This is probably where his dream turns to nightmare."

Unfortunately, CNN is not the only dreamer.

The Washington Post has been examining the same possibility---sharing the same dream.

An op-ed in Bezos' paper said,
"What happens when a Democratic Speaker of the House---second in line to the presidency, according to the Presidential Succession Act of 1947---is suddenly thrust into the Oval Office, succeeding a Republican president and vice president who resign, embroiled in scandal?"

The dream continues:
"Such a scenario is attracting attention---#PresidentPelosi--- was trending on social media after last week's announcement of the impeachment inquiry. Even though it may seem far-fetched that President Trump and Vice President Pence could be forced from office..."

A bit of irony.

As the House moves its impeachment inquiry forward, Rep. Alcee Hastings, the second-ranking Democrat on the House Rules Committee, which is setting the rules for the "impeachment inquiry" into Donald Trump, has himself been impeached. He was impeached and removed from office in 1989---one of only eight federal officials, all of whom have been judges, to ever be relieved from their position.

Hastings was removed for bribery, one of the causes enumerated in the Constitution's Impeachment Clause (Article II, Section 4): "The President, Vice President and all Civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and conviction of 'Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors'."

Conservative journalist Byron York tweeted, "Striking that in the House Rules Committee meeting on impeachment inquiry resolution, No. 2 Democrat , Rep. Alcee Hastings, has actually been impeached and removed from office in 1989 for bribery."

What's really going on with this "impeachment" attempt.

House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) told reporters yesterday that the House Democrat leaders are "using the partisan impeachment inquiry to help decide who will be the next president of the United States..."

While briefing reporters he said this:

If you look at where we are at right now, we’re at an important point in history. Clearly, there are people that we serve with that don’t like the results of the 2016 election — that’s their prerogative — but the country next year will be deciding who our president is going to be. It should not be Nancy Pelosi and a small group of people that she selects that get to determine who’s going to be our president.

He went on to say that Democrats are not interested in getting to the bottom of the allegations that triggered the impeachment effort.

Scalise says he's convinced that the sole focus is on simply removing Trump from office and overturning the results of the 2016 elections.

He said,
"They don’t really want to get to the truth. They want to remove a sitting president. In fact, the author of the articles of impeachment [Democrat Rep. Al Green from Texas] said, ‘if they don’t impeach the president, he will get re-elected.’ Now that’s not why we have impeachment. "

I agree.

To the progressive, the end always justifies the means. That's what we are seeing play out. And it's all happening 12 months before the 2020 presidential election---an election that, by their own admission, Trump will likely win.

Like Rep. Al Green from Texas said: "If we don't impeach the president, he will get reelected."

He's right.

However, if they continue with the charade, Trump may well be reelected either way. It's the Democrats in districts where Trump is winning that should be worried.

Pray for our President and Vice President. And pray for our country.
