How Can Biblical Christians Vote For Democrats?

Allie Beth Stuckey, who hosts the Christian podcast "Relatable" and oversees "The Conservative Millennial" blog, created a firestorm a few days ago when she questioned whether someone could be a biblical Christian and support the Democratic Party, which advocates for abortion access, among other anti-biblical beliefs.

Let's pause the politics for a moment and ask ourselves the same question.

Be informed, not misled.

On the first anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court's Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization decision determining that the U.S. Constitution doesn't contain a right to abortion, Stuckey commented on a former President Barack Obama post.

Obama's post said:

It’s been a year since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. Since then, 14 states have banned most abortions, leaving millions of women and girls with nowhere to turn for the care they need.

And yet, there are reasons to hope.

After Roe v. Wade was overturned, voters in Michigan, California, and Vermont helped enshrine abortion rights in their state constitutions. And governors in states like Nevada, Hawaii, and Pennsylvania have signed executive orders to protect abortion access.

About 36 million people have read his comments.

He continued.

Now it’s time to join the activists who have been leading this work for years and do even more.

That means volunteering in your community. It means supporting organizations like @PPFA @USOWomen and your local abortion fund that is doing great work. And it means voting in every single election — especially local ones where you can have an even bigger impact.

It’s the best way to turn a setback into far more lasting progress. So let’s keep working...

Says Mr. Obama, who claims to be a Christian.

Former President Obama is an influential figure in the Democratic Party and he is undoubtedly representative of the Party's leadership and its worldview.

In fact, some believe he is running the Party behind the scenes.

Here he is expressing gratitude that "voters in Michigan, California, and Vermont helped enshrine abortion rights in their state constitutions" while "governors in states like Nevada, Hawaii, and Pennsylvania have signed executive orders to protect abortion access."

He described the developments in these states as "reasons to hope" while lamenting the 2022 Dobbs decision, which reversed the Roe v. Wade ruling that legalized abortion nationwide. Obama argued that the decision left "millions of women and girls with nowhere to turn for the care they need."

He leaves no room for "life" over abortion.

Stuckey sent out a tweet of her own in response to Obama's comments.

"Evil man, evil ideology, evil party," she wrote. "Christians have no excuse to ever support these people. There is no 'both sides' argument."

Justin Giboney, president of the AND Campaign, an organization that urges Christian civil engagement to bring the "conviction of the Gospel in the public square," issued a statement criticizing Stuckey's analysis.

He said, "In other words, “We get abortion partially right so you must agree with us on everything even when our leaders show a lack of concern for the lives of immigrants, Black men killed by authorities, pregnant Black women, the uninsured poor and create laws to make it harder to vote.”

He continued, "I’ve voted for both parties and have plenty of criticisms of Democrats, including abortion and immigration. But this narrative is wrong and extremely disrespectful to millions of faithful Black Christians."

"People only feel good saying things like this when they lack a relationship with Christians from other traditions."

Is Christianity eclectic?

Do we choose which Truths we embrace and which we rip from the Bible and toss in the trash can?

Do we decide which parts of the Bible are inspired and inerrant and which are not?

The Christian Left has indeed chosen to craft God's Word in a way that affirms their chosen behavior in both the sanctity of life and human sexuality. Paul called it "having a form of godliness but denying its power."

The exchange between Stuckey and Giboney continued on social media, drawing thousands of people into the discussion.

In conclusion, Stuckey asked, can Christians vote for the party that celebrates dismembering children and chemically castrating preteens?"

Can biblical Christians vote for Democrats---given their secular, humanist worldview?

When you visit the home page of the Christian Left's website you are met with this:

THE CHRISTIAN LEFT WELCOMES YOU

Welcome! Are you a Christian and a Liberal? We've been searching for you for 14 years! If you're like many others like us you've probably felt alone out there. You've probably been told "You can't be a Christian and a Liberal!" You've probably been ostracized by churches, and conservative "Christian" friends and family. You've probably doubted your own viewpoint at times.

You're in the right place! Conservative "Christians" have turned their back on one of the central tenets of the Bible. The tenet that Jesus said was "The sum of the Law and all the prophets," to Love God and Love your neighbor as you do yourself! And who is our neighbor? Jesus taught us it was a stranger … A stranger, of a foreign belief system, who stopped to help another stranger beat up and left for dead on the roadside while religious types passed him by! The Bible is full of instructions that this teaching isn't “just for individuals.” It's a universal teaching. It applies to individuals, governments, and businesses.

Welcome home. You have found your tribe. Conservative "Christians" are wrong, and you've been right about Jesus all along!

We also welcome anyone who wants to be here. We have many, many friends who support our message of taking care of our brothers and sisters in this world. All of them!

We are The Christian Left. We’re all around you. We’re among the people. Take a look. We’re part of the Body of Christ. We’re Christians. We’re Liberal. We make no apologies. In fact, Jesus' ways are “Liberal.” That’s why He was killed. As soon as the temple incident happened and Jesus meddled in the business of the moneychangers a target was placed on his back.

The Christian Left says, "We’re not about Dogma. We’re just Christians who think the political and Christian right-wing have their priorities wrong."

In their section about human sexuality they begin with a quote from Jimmy Carter:

"Jesus never said a word about homosexuality. In all his teachings about multiple things---He never said that gay people should be condemned."

Gay people are not "condemned" by evangelicals, nor do evangelicals call for them to be "condemned."

God condemns sin---" the wages of sin is death" and God says that "homosexuality is sin."

The Christian Left holds to a Cafeteria-style Christianity.

Takeaway

Progressive Christianity is a movement that is infiltrating and influencing the Evangelical church. Some of the most high-profile Christian leaders are a part of it. This movement seeks to re-interpret the Bible, re-assess historical doctrines, and redefine the core tenets of the faith. While claiming the title “Christian” and boasting a high view of the Bible, it is sweeping up many unsuspecting Christians into a false view of who God is and how he saves people.

But it can be very difficult to spot. It’s not like progressive Christians typically introduce themselves like, “Hi! I am your friendly neighborhood progressive Christian, and I’m here to preach a different gospel!” The slow slide into progressive Christianity is so subtle it is almost imperceptible. Unless you know some basics.
