An ad from KFC that debuted in the United Kingdom and Ireland earlier this month has prompted lots of complaints for depicting what some have interpreted as a mockery of Christian baptism and glamorizing cultish behavior.
I'm one of the "some."
Expect this KFC ad to show up in the United States.
Be informed, not misled.
I personally believe it is a mockery of Christian baptism, and it does indeed glamorize cultish behavior.
KFC is playing chicken with God.
And they're going to lose.
AD WEEK says, "In these uncertain times—marred by political and economic turmoil, climate change, and the rise of artificial intelligence—it’s hard to know what to trust. Restaurant chain KFC offers a simple answer to the lost and fearful masses: Believe in chicken."
The two-minute ad "Believe Part 2 All Hail the Gravy," which can be viewed on YouTube, depicts a young man walking through the woods when he stumbles across a chicken. He then encounters a group of people carrying a giant golden egg toward a lake of gravy.
Here's how the official press release promotes the ad:
A female character then carries the man into the lake, where she dunks him in what appears to be an initiation ceremony before he emerges reborn as a fried KFC Mini Fillet.
The 2-minute ad, “Believe Part 2 All Hail the Gravy” by Mother, launched 10 days ago. It opens with the young man walking through a wood when he stumbles across a chicken. He is then joined by a group of people carrying a giant golden egg towards a lake and he is eventually dunked into the lake in what appears to be an initiation ceremony and emerges as a KFC Mini Fillet.
The ad unfolds as an odyssey through the mystical woodland. The egg acts as a guiding light and provides the captivating beat for the choreographed procession of Believers, which is set to an original track.
“The narrative builds to a climax, capturing the anticipation as one of the Believers is immersed in a pool of liquid gold gravy and emerges as a perfectly crispy KFC Mini Fillet above the shimmering gravy lake, to the cheers of the crowd.
“The modern-day fable explores the strong connection KFC fans have with the Original Recipe Chicken and a true cult favorite: the freshly made gravy.”
Christian Post says, "Monica Silic, chief marketing officer of KFC U.K. and Ireland, said the ad campaign is an attempt to 'bring an entertaining antidote to this dull, chaotic world.'"
"This is about inspiring the fandom. We’re clear on having a role in culture, which is to bring some lightness and levity to the chaotic world through the truth of our product," she said.
Mocking God never brings "light and levity" to the chaotic world.
Headline: Georgia Democrat Lawmaker Urged to ‘Repent’ for Mocking God During Abortion Bill Hearing
A Democrat state lawmaker in Georgia is taking heat for her reaction during a debate about the killing of unborn babies.
The issue surrounds House Bill 441 that would “essentially equate abortion to murder at the time of conception,” according to a WSB-TV article published on Wednesday.
The Western Journal weighed in on the issue: Members of the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade almost three years ago, but abortion levels have actually increased nationwide ever since.
The state of Georgia is no exception.
Christian advocates for the preborn were reminded of that sorrowful truth on Wednesday when some lawmakers reacted viscerally against a bill to equally protect preborn babies under the law.
The Georgia Prenatal Equal Protection Act, also known as House Bill 441, would simply apply the same laws that already protect born people from conduct like murder, assault, and battery to protect preborn people as well, effectively abolishing abortion in the state.
The idea is that anyone who willfully chooses to murder a preborn baby would face the exact same penalties as anyone who willfully chooses to murder a born baby, thereby upholding the equal value and dignity of babies in the womb.
Christians descended upon the Georgia State Capitol, offering testimony about the humanity of preborn babies as image-bearers of God and calling on lawmakers to finally provide them with equal protection under the law.
This did not sit well with some "public servants," so these elected officials began their tirade against God and those who serve Him.
Georgia Democratic State Rep. Dar’shun Kendrick decided to mock God and ridicule Virgil Walker, the vice president of G3 Ministries, as he testified in favor of House Bill 44.
She scribbled signs reading “America and Georgia are NOT A THEOCRACY!!!” as well as “Your God is NOT everyone’s God!” on pieces of printer paper, showing them to Walker and plastering a bizarre wide-eyed look on her face as he tried to exhort the lawmakers.
Kendrick had also claimed earlier in the hearing that “it’s none of our business” if women decide to murder their children, insisting that abortion is a “right” that should be protected.Democrat State Representative @DarshunKendrick mocks God and a Georgia citizen (@VirgilWalkerOMA) as he gives testimony in support of HB441 yesterday.

Not only is this reprehensible and immature behavior as a politician in the civil sphere, it’s also a terrifying position to… pic.twitter.com/Ja5U4rROOT
The many pro-abortion citizens who testified against House Bill 441 made similar arguments during the two-hour committee hearing, asserting that the Christians who wanted to love God and their neighbors by abolishing abortion were on some vain theocratic quest to impose their quirky views on the entire state.
Takeaway

Reaping what you sow: This verse highlights the principle that actions have consequences, and those who mock God will face the repercussions of their behavior.
Not a passive concept: It is important to note that "God is not mocked" is not a passive statement; it is an active warning against disrespecting God.
Examples of mocking God: Mocking God can manifest in various ways, including through words, actions, and lifestyles that contradict God's word and character.
Consequences of mocking God: The Bible warns that those who mock God will face judgment and consequences for their actions, both in this life and the next.
