Democrat "Sanctuary Cities" are not Biblical Sanctuary Cities

President Trump has called on Congress to immediately pass legislation against sanctuary city policies.

Vice President JD Vance shared some details from his recent trip to Minneapolis and said he'd heard a number of disturbing stories from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents on the ground there.

The protests and riots — along with two deadly clashes, one involving ICE and the other involving Customs and Border Protection (CBP) — have dominated the headlines, but Vance said that there is far more to the story.

Sanctuary Cities have become a major part of the deep division in our country and culture.

Those who are operating "sanctuary cities" are virtue signaling, and in many cases, using the ploy that they are somehow virtuous. Even biblical.

They're not.

Be informed, not misled.

Yesterday, The Daily Wire published an article quoting VP Vance and his experience in the sanctuary city of Minneapolis.  Later in the day, I believe the story was replaced by others, but here are some of Vance's observations:

'Stop This Madness': JD Vance Reveals Details From His Minneapolis Stop

Vice President JD Vance shared some details from his recent trip to Minneapolis, and he said that he'd heard a number of disturbing stories from the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents on the ground there.

The protests and riots — along with two deadly clashes, one involving ICE and the other involving Customs and Border Protection (CBP) — have dominated the headlines, but Vance said that there is far more to the story.

"A couple of off duty ICE and CBP officers were going to dinner in Minneapolis. They were doxed and their location revealed, and the restaurant was then mobbed. The officers were locked in the restaurant, and local police refused to respond to their pleas for help (as they've been directed by local authorities). Eventually, their fellow federal agents came to their aid," Vance said.

"This is just a taste of what's happening in Minneapolis because state and local officials refuse to cooperate with immigration enforcement," he added. "They have created the chaos so they can have moments like yesterday, where someone tragically dies and politicians get to grandstand about the evils of enforcing the border."

The Trump administration has repeatedly explained that the key issue causing the unrest is the fact that local and state officials in Minnesota not only refuse to enforce federal immigration law, but also actively work against the federal authorities when they attempt to do so.

"The solution is staring everyone in the face. I hope authorities in Minneapolis stop this madness," Vance concluded.

Another report titled "Federal Officer Left Bloodied, Windows Broken As Anti-ICE Protestors Descend On Hotel" said:

Overnight, anti-ICE agitators attempted to break into a hotel in St. Paul, Minnesota, where they claimed federal immigration agents were staying.

One lone and bloodied officer was seen trying to fend off the group that gathered outside the Home2Suites hotel. The demonstrators were seen donning gas masks, banging drums, and blowing horns into the hotel's lobby.

At one point, the officer with the Bureau of Prisons was seen trying to fend off the group from entering before he fired a chemical agent into the crowd.

"Where's the local PD, that's my question for the press," the officer said as he told protestors to "get back."

One person could be heard offering medical aid to the officer, who replied "I'm fine."

These "sanctuary cities" are anti-biblical and anti-God.

My friend Bryan Fischer wrote this about "Sanctuary cities:

Even though "regressives" borrowed the concept from the Bible, today’s sanctuary cities are not anything like God’s sanctuary cities. In fact, they are the exact opposite.

God’s “sanctuary cities” were designed to enforce the law. Democrats’ “sanctuary cities” are designed to evade the law.

The biblical version of sanctuary cities was called “cities of refuge.” They consisted of six cities in the Land of Promise, three on either side of the Jordan (Numbers 35:11-28), and were designed to hold over for trial a man who had killed somebody, even accidentally.

Under the system of justice instituted by God for the new nation of Israel, if a man died at the hands of another, the man who had killed his neighbor was safe from immediate retribution at the hands of the avenger of blood (the oldest male relative) as long as he fled to a city of refuge. He would be kept safe in protective custody as long as he stayed there until his trial date arrived. But when his trial date arrived, the city of refuge was required to turn him over to the legal system for trial and punishment.

The purpose of the trial was to determine whether he was guilty of an accidental homicide (manslaughter), or murder. If he was found guilty of murder, he was immediately executed. If it was determined that the death was accidental and no negligence was involved, he was returned to the city of refuge and could eventually return home as a free and innocent man.

But he was not free to return home until the current high priest died. This would serve as a deterrent to those inclined to game the system by making a murder look like an accident, would serve as a strong incentive to prevent accidents in the workplace, and would be a sober reminder of the value God places on human life.

If the offender left the city of refuge before his trial, he forfeited all his legal protection from the avenger of blood (the oldest male relative), and was fair game if the avenger found him running loose. In sum, the city of refuge policy made sure that justice was done and the spirit of vengeance was checked.

The cities of refuge had a solemn responsibility to protect the accused until trial, but had the solemn responsibility to hand the accused over for trial when the authorities showed up. To fail in this latter duty would create legal jeopardy for the city.

A biblical city of refuge was thus the utter and complete opposite of the Democrat version, which is nothing more than a pseudo-compassionate system of returning convicted criminals to the streets where they can rape, murder, and drive drunk again---killing innocent people.
