The subtitle reads, "House Republicans Create Sharia-Free America Caucus."
"We Will Not Surrender Our Freedoms," they vow.
Several House Republicans are uniting against what they call a dangerous Islamic ideology spreading nationwide. Texas Representative Keith Self explains why he helped create the Sharia-Free America caucus.
He says, "North Texas has had like 20 mosques in the last two years."
And they want to build a self-contained community of over 1000 homes. There has been discussion about installing Sharia law in the community.
Be informed, not misled.
Last April, we published a story about the plan to build a Muslim community near Plano, Texas.
We said, "Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced Tuesday that the East Plano Islamic Center (EPIC) could not begin construction on a proposed Muslim neighborhood due to legal issues, according to a press release."
EPIC has proposed building a Muslim ‘city’ in Texas, including building over 1,000 homes, a school based on the Islamic religion, a college, a mosque, and retail operations.
According to CBS, the East Plano Islamic Center is orchestrating the project, called "EPIC City," on a 402-acre parcel that includes parts of Collin and Hunt counties.
Newsweek says this is why it matters: "During his first term in office, President Donald Trump banned travel to the United States from a number of Muslim-majority countries, having called for a 'total and complete shutdown of Muslims' entering the country during the campaign."
They continue, "After returning to office on January 20, Trump signed an executive order instructing officials to make a list of nations for which vetting and screening information is so deficient as to warrant a partial or full suspension' on the admission of nationals from those countries."
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced Tuesday he's starting an investigation over EPIC City's potential violation of state consumer protection laws, saying in part: "Promotional materials advertised by EPIC have explicitly stated that EPIC is the 'only beneficiary of profits' from EPIC City."
Rep. Jeff Leach (R-Allen) wrote a letter to Paxton in February saying, "Reports indicate that this large-scale real estate development may seek to incorporate elements of Sharia law into its operations. We must ensure that no entity attempts to circumvent state law under the guise of cultural or religious accommodation."
According to the Council on American-Islamic Relations, Sharia law is a "framework for personal conduct and moral guidance," but the regulation of the law varies depending on the person and country.
Last year, Abbott said on X: "To be clear, Sharia law is not allowed in Texas. Nor are Sharia cities."
Following this, Texas Governor Greg Abbott blocked construction on the project, for the moment.
Fast forward to today, January 29, 2026
On Capitol Hill, several House Republicans are uniting against what they call a dangerous Islamic ideology spreading nationwide. Texas Representative Keith Self shared with CBN News why he helped to create the Sharia Free America caucus.
"North Texas has had like 20 mosques in the last two years," said Self.
The congressman draws a direct connection between a growing Muslim population in his home state and a gradual infiltration of Islamic control.
"First of all, it would be simply, 'We want a community,'" said Self. "Then the police can't come in. Then. And the contracts, the covenants of the area say that you may buy if you're the right kind of person, you may sell to the right kind of person."
The Texas Republicans' crucial issue: the spread of Islamic Sharia law. Described as a framework of daily life for Muslims, Sharia is rooted in the Quran and the teachings of Mohammed. It influences each aspect of a Muslim's life, from spiritual practices like prayer and fasting to daily activities such as business transactions.
"Now, is the time to educate our colleagues in Congress, our citizens, to the dangers of a totally separate and disparate civilization," he said.
Self and fellow Texas Congressman Chip Roy are leading this effort through their Sharia Free America Caucus. They say the goal is to protect the U.S. Constitution and individual freedom from Sharia's influence.
This would include legal initiatives, such as No Sharia Legislation, which would deny immigration benefits to those who advocate for Sharia.
In just one month, the caucus membership has grown to 26 Republican lawmakers from 17 states, including Florida Rep. Byron Donalds, who says, "Sharia has no place in America. We will not surrender our freedoms."
Illinois Rep. Mary Miller says she joined the caucus to "stand firmly against this radical ideology that seeks to uproot the constitutional principles and Christian values on which our nation was founded."
Self points to the Trump administration's recent move to designate three branches of the Muslim Brotherhood as terrorist organizations.
"The Muslim Brotherhood as a whole is the genesis of all of this," Self said. "They are the foundation of exporting Sharia to the United States and to Europe. I mean, look at the UK. Look at France. That's what we don't want to happen to America.
Takeaway
Newsweek says, "EPIC’s affiliate, Community Capital Partners, said the community will allow everyone to live harmoniously together."
The Houston Chronicle writes, "To me, as someone who is a sixth-generation Texan, it reads that I’m not welcome here," William White, director of the Houston branch of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, said.
They also report, “EPIC City is a thoughtful community designed for families, just like hundreds of others in Texas. The only reason it is being unfairly targeted is because there is a mosque in the plans instead of a church or a temple. That’s it,” Dan Cogdell said, the lawyer hired to represent the developer’s plan.
Abbott has reiterated his concerns about allegations that the project was tied to Sharia law.
People, mostly the "regressives", claim that Thomas Jefferson never said, "Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty." However, people quoted Jefferson as having made the statement as early as the early 1800s.
Andrew Jackson said this in his farewell speech in 1837. James Buchanan said this in a speech on veto power in 1842. Frederick Douglass apparently said this enough to warrant discussion in the book on Frederick Douglass’ proverbial rhetoric.
Freedom and Liberty are fragile and must be protected at all costs.
America was founded on Judeo-Christian principles and values. Our legal system is based upon Justice taken from biblical principles.
We have been since our founding, "One nation under God."
Our checks and balances of power are based upon the fact that mankind is broken. Sinful.
President Ronald Reagan once said, "If America ever ceases to be a nation under God, it will become a nation gone under."
Be Informed. Be Discerning. Be Vigilant. Be Bold. Be Engaged. Be Prayerful.
