All agree that "Satan is on the move."
Christians nationwide are reacting to the third brazen attempted assassination of President Donald Trump’s life that unfolded Saturday night as the commander in chief and members of his administration attended the annual White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) dinner halted by gunfire that echoed inside the Washington Hilton hotel.
Some attendees reported hearing the gunfire as a succession of four loud noises, "boom, boom, boom, boom," while others said they heard plates crashing as security and Secret Service agents ordered everyone to duck under their tables as Vice President JD Vance, the president, and first lady Melania Trump were rushed from the dais.
Five Christian leaders who were in attendance have shared their response.
Be informed, not misled.
Everyone has an opinion about what happened Saturday night in Washington DC.
Here's what 5 Christian leaders had to say after experiencing the assassination attempt.
1. Franklin Graham: 'Grateful to God the president is safe, no innocent people harmed.’
Graham, president and CEO of Samaritan’s Purse and son of the late evangelist Billy Graham, said Saturday night he was among the 2,000 attendees at the WHCA dinner when shots were fired inside the Hilton.
"After three assassination attempts, some people say that President @realDonaldTrump is one lucky man. I don’t think luck has anything to do with it — I believe it is the hand of God. What do you think?" Graham wrote in a post on X on Sunday afternoon.
Just after 10 p.m. ET Saturday, Graham shared an image from the table where he was seated as a guest of Newsmax President Chris Ruddy and Greta Van Susteren and her husband, John Coale.
"We are still learning details, but I am grateful to God that the president of the United States is safe and that no innocent people were harmed. It could have been much worse," he wrote on Instagram.
"I’m tremendously thankful for our Secret Service and law enforcement. It was incredible to witness these highly trained experts spring into action to get President @realDonaldTrump, the first lady, and our nation’s leaders out quickly and efficiently."
"I thank God that America has such a great leader," he added. "Pray for our president."
2. Pastor Robert Jeffress: 'Spared a third time from an assassin's bullet.'
Speaking with Fox News on Sunday morning, Jeffress was asked to respond to the attempted assassination and share a message of unity for the nation.
Urging Americans to pray, Jeffress said, "We need to pray for America," noting that Trump has asked Americans to go to Washington on May 17 "for a great rededication effort to rededicate ourselves to God."
"But as I watched that scene last night unfold," he added, "I was reminded of just three weeks ago when the president hosted an Easter lunch at the White House. Several people were up there praying. He saw me and motioned for me to come stand next to him. And I did. And he asked me to pray.
"I felt led to specifically pray for the president’s safety and for the safety of the first lady from those who would do them harm. And I think last night God answered that prayer — not just my prayer, but the prayer of millions of Americans every day who pray for this great president," Jeffress said.
"Somebody has said every person is immortal until his work on Earth is done. And I think the fact that the president was spared a third time from an assassin’s bullet is a sign that God is not through with Donald Trump yet. He’s got a great purpose."
Noting that former President Ronald Reagan was nearly assassinated at the Washington Hilton hotel 45 years ago in 1981, Jeffress said Reagan "believed God spared his life to break the power of communism."
He continued: "President Trump believes God has a purpose for him, and it’s a purpose of God that will not be thwarted. So I just thank God for the preservation of his life last night. And just as God has a promise and a purpose for Donald Trump, He has a purpose for your life and for my life. And last night should give us all the courage to move forward in what God has called us to do."
"I think it’s that knowledge that has made Donald Trump, without doubt, the most courageous president in history."
3. Jenny Korn: 'Let’s pray this unity prevails'
Korn, deputy assistant to the president and faith director of the White House Faith Office, wrote in a post on X: "For a moment — Reps, Dems & journalists all stood & applauded when it was announced the president, first lady, & Cabinet were safe. Unity showed up."
"It’s unfortunate this is what it takes, but let’s pray this unity prevails," she added. "Then a moment of levity … everyone laughed & applauded again when @potus announced they would reschedule the WHCD & he was having a press conference 30 min after the shooting. *Thanks to Secret Service for getting everyone out safe. Grateful for a good Sunday."
4. John K. Amanchukwu Sr: 'Same climate led to martyrdom of Charlie Kirk'
Amanchukwu, a visiting fellow at the Center for Renewing America and outspoken commentator who last week spoke at TPUSA's Faith Forward Pastors' Summit in Grapevine, Texas, reacted to the attempted assassination by raising concerns about political violence in the nation.
"Violence doesn’t begin with action, it begins with atmosphere! Notice who constantly stokes the flames that have led to three assassins attempting to [kill] President Trump. This same climate led to the martyrdom of Charlie Kirk," He said.
5. Jack Graham: 'This is a spiritual war, and Satan is on the move.'
Graham, senior pastor of Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano, Texas, and a former president of the Southern Baptist Convention, responded to the president's insistence that "all Americans recommit with their hearts in resolving our differences peacefully."
“As we gather in our churches today, let us pray for our president and our nation. Pray for revival in the Church and spiritual awakening in the country," Graham wrote on X.
"Deb and I were at the Ford Theatre in DC yesterday, where Abraham Lincoln was assassinated, and today we are vividly reminded of the evil that still kills. This is a spiritual war, and Satan is on the move. May God give us mercy and grace and courage to stand for righteousness,” Graham added.
Takeaway
Back in 2025, as Trump took office for his second term, Pastor Greg Laurie said this:
Donald Trump is now officially America’s 47th president. And after winning not only the electoral college, but the popular vote, I think it’s safe to say he has a clear mandate from the American people.
We are tired of the crazy “woke” agenda we’ve been dealing with, the promotion of late-term abortions, the mutilation of children, men in women’s sports—and the list goes on.
I believe God has placed Donald Trump in office “for such a time as this,” in the same way Esther was placed in an influential position to make a difference (see Esther 4:14).
He has faced incredible challenges on the way to this presidency, including two assassination attempts. He himself has said he believes God spared him, including in his inaugural address yesterday, where he said, “An assassin’s bullet ripped through my ear. But I felt then, and believe even more so now, that my life was saved for a reason. I was saved by God to make America great again.”
President Trump could have died so easily, but God did indeed spare him. It reminds me of what Ronald Reagan said after he survived an assassination attempt of his own, “whatever happens now I owe my life to God and will try to serve him in every way I can.” He went on to have one of the greatest presidencies in American history.
We want to do what we do best: teach the Word of God, preach the gospel, love people, and help people in the name of Jesus Christ. And we want to see revival in the church, because we know that America’s return to God begins with His people (see 2 Chronicles 7:14).
I know President Trump understands the important role faith plays in the history of our nation, as well as the need for it in our present and future. And I am very appreciative of the fact that many Christians have been put in positions of influence around him. Godly people influencing and counseling him is exactly what we want.
