WA Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez Has Stepped Out From The Shadows

Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez has scrubbed the Republican endorsers section from her campaign website, deleting the bipartisan credentials she spent two cycles advertising to voters in a district Donald Trump carried twice.

The Washougal Democrat’s endorsement page once listed former Clark County Councilors Julie Olson and John Blom, Lewis County Farm Bureau President Maureen Harkcom, former Longview City Council member Mike Wallin, and former Oregon Republican gubernatorial nominee Ron Saxton. All of them are gone. Her campaign website now runs the endorsements beneath a single banner, “MARIE IS PROUDLY ENDORSED BY WASHINGTON’S WORKING FAMILIES.”

Well, maybe not so much.

Be informed, not misled.

I clicked her website and got this:

The rebrand came days after Perez stumbled through an interview about the socialist wing swallowing her Democrat Party. She would not say the word socialist, declined to condemn the movement, and told the interviewer she was completely on board with the anger fueling its rise, according to the National Republican Congressional Committee

The Committee website says, "Fraud Marie Gluesenkamp Perez was handed a simple opportunity to condemn the socialist takeover of the Democrat Party. Instead, she stammered, dodged, and folded."

Asked whether recent Democratic Socialist victories show her party leaving her behind, Perez refused to criticize the movement and claimed she was “100% on board” with the anger fueling their rise.

No surprise. Perez has received more than $2 million this cycle from the Washington State Democratic Party, whose platform pushes government-run health care, government-owned utilities, guaranteed income, sanctuary policies and redirecting police funding.

NRCC Spokesman Christian Martinez said, "Fraud Marie Gluesenkamp Perez gagged on a pathetic word salad before bending the knee to the socialists taking over her party. She can stammer and squirm, but the millions flowing into her campaign through a state party pushing socialist policies expose the scam: Perez is bankrolled by socialists and terrified to cross them.”

The Washington Free Beacon said in 2024, "Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez bills herself as a moderate Democrat, but the Washington State congresswoman has embraced a far-left anti-police group that has helped send hundreds of thousands of dollars into her reelection campaign."

Fuse Washington advocates for various radical reforms, including defunding the police, giving unemployment benefits to illegal immigrants, and supporting a guaranteed basic income. The group has since endorsed Gluesenkamp Perez and dumped more than $400,000 into its affiliated super PAC, Together for Progress. The political action committee, in turn, spent slightly more than that amount on the congresswoman's 2024 reelection, giving her nearly exclusive support.

"My race for Washington's Third Congressional District was a complete dogfight, and Fuse was sincerely one of the only organizations that stepped in and saw the urgency and the opportunity," she said in a May 2023 video on Fuse's Instagram page. "I felt like I didn't have an ally, and Fuse was that. I could not have been successful without the leadership that you all showed."

This is supposedly the working families supporting her campaign?

The Blue Dog costume comes off as Perez steps out of the shadows.

Seattle Red says, "Perez also pulled the Blue Dog Coalition from her featured endorsement display, which is a remarkable thing to do while co-chairing the group. The Blue Dog label was the centerpiece of the moderate identity she built, and it is now missing from the page where she sells herself."

None of this is a surprise to anyone who has followed the paper trail. FEC filings already showed her independent blue-collar brand was largely a facade, and the auto shop she cites as proof of her small business roots sits across the river in Portland. She has spent the past year absorbing an uprising from her own left flank, and the website edits suggest she has decided which side of that fight she needs more.

Republicans see the same thing.

Takeaway

I'm reminded of the biblical story of  Jacob pretending to be his brother Esau to deceive their father Isaac (Genesis 27).

Jacob, encouraged by his mother Rebekah, disguised himself as Esau so that he could receive the blessing intended for the firstborn son. Rebekah prepared some excellent meat that Isaac loved, and she dressed Jacob in Esau's clothing. Because Isaac's eyesight had grown dim with age, Jacob also covered his hands and neck with the skins of young goats to imitate Esau's hairy skin. When Isaac questioned him, Jacob falsely declared, "I am Esau thy firstborn" (Genesis 27:19). Though Isaac noticed that the voice sounded like Jacob's, he relied on the clothing and the feel of his hands and was deceived. Believing Jacob to be Esau, Isaac bestowed upon him the blessing.

When Esau later returned from hunting, the deception was uncovered. Isaac trembled greatly, and Esau cried with great bitterness because the blessing could not be taken back. Jacob's deceit brought lasting consequences. Esau hated his brother and planned to kill him, forcing Jacob to flee from his home for many years. During that time, Jacob himself experienced deception at the hands of others, especially his uncle Laban.

This story demonstrates the serious consequences of pretending to be someone or something you are not. Jacob gained the blessing through deception, but his dishonesty brought conflict, broken family relationships, and years of hardship. The account teaches that God values truth and that deception, even when it appears to bring temporary success, often results in painful consequences. It also shows that God's purposes are accomplished by His power, not by human deceit or hypocrisy.

Be Informed. Be Not Deceived. Be Discerning. Be Vigilant. Be Engaged. Be Prayerful.
