The Seattle City Council voted Tuesday unanimously to make polyamory, pansexuality, and asexuality protected classes under city anti-discrimination law, then handed enforcement to an office that has gone without a permanent director since March.
Be informed, not misled.
Seattle Red says, "The ordinance rewrites the definition of “sexual orientation” in the Seattle Municipal Code to include pansexuality and asexuality, and to treat consensual relationships with multiple partners as one of the “attitudes, preferences, and practices” that class already covers. It also stretches the city’s marital status protections to multigenerational households. Coverage extends to employment, housing, business licensure, public accommodations, park usage, and what the city labels bias-free policing. Employers will not be required to extend health insurance or leave to additional partners. The law takes effect June 1, 2027."
Councilmember Alexis Mercedes Rinck, who earlier this year sponsored the city’s emergency moratorium on detention centers, wrote the measure.
“This update reflects how people actually live,” she said after the vote.
Seattle, joining the Sodom and Gomorrah club by a unanimous vote, becomes the tenth and largest American city to adopt the protections.
It will not surprise you that Seattle is following Olympia, Portland, Oakland and West Hollywood.
Again: The council passed it without a dissenting vote.
If you are paying attention, Seattle City Council almost always votes unanimously.
And look who will be enforcing this.
The office that has to enforce it:
Complaints will go to the Seattle Office for Civil Rights. Director Derrick Wheeler-Smith and his deputy have been on paid administrative leave since March, after employees alleged discrimination, harassment, and retaliation inside the department.
An internal investigation later concluded Wheeler-Smith subjected a subordinate to “unwelcome conduct of a sexually explicit nature” during a work-related trip, PubliCola reported, and the union representing the office’s staff has asked Mayor Katie Wilson to remove him. Interim director Erika Pablo subsequently took leave herself, leaving a second temporary appointee in charge.
Confusion and chaos.
The campaign began ten months earlier and aimed higher.
In a December 15, 2025 letter reviewed by Seattle Red, the Seattle Human Rights Commission urged the council to create a standalone protected class for family and relationship structure, covering chosen families, single parents, intentionally single individuals and people in aromantic relationships. “Delaying action prolongs harm,” the commissioners wrote. The Seattle LGBTQ Commission co-signed three days later, and the Seattle Renters’ Commission added its name on March 4.
What passed is narrower than that request. Instead of building a new class, the council folded the language into two definitions already on the books, which keeps the ordinance inside the enforcement machinery the commissions praised in their letter. Whether that machinery can handle the work becomes a question in June 2027, when the first complaints can be filed.
Sodom and Gomorrah was not a good plan for the well-being of a city.
Seattle, Olympia, Portland, Oakland, and West Hollywood have taken a step in rebellion against God that will not be tolerated. The consequence is already in play. Look at the condition of these and other cities that embrace the same principles. They are beyond Third World conditions.
Look how their sidewalks and parks are teeming with homelessness and have become a social cancer.
None of these cities that are led by leftist leadership are thriving. Nor will they.
Takeway
Moderate Democrats are being replaced by socialists in primaries.
If Democrats in Olympia and other cities are emboldened by results in November, and the moderate Democrats are replaced by socialist Democrats, this is just a taste of what we are in for.
Consider this: “60% of WA voters who did not vote in the last election were Republicans and Independents. That means there is an opportunity to push back together against socialism and communism, and demand reason and common sense once again. "
But this is not a matter that politicians can solve. It isn't political. It's spiritual. And it's an affront to God Himself.
Most of us are familiar with Romans chapter one.
God strongly condemns homosexuality.
Human decadence is the point. When people turn their backs on God (Rom. 1:28), they are “filled” with all manner of wickedness. Yet Paul will summarize with what hardly seems possible: an even harsher condemnation.
People have an innate awareness that evil of the breadth and scale described in verses 28–31 deserves God’s punishment. This means not just a slap on the wrist but the full wages of sin (Rom. 6:23)—banishment from God’s presence and the eternal punishment that accompanies it. Paul describes this explicitly elsewhere: “They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might” (2 Thess. 1:9). The human condition as described here is perilous in the extreme.
But as bad as it is for “those who practice such things,” it is even worse for those who “give approval to those who practice them.”
It is one thing to condemn oneself. But in a religion whose second great commandment is to love others, to give approval and thereby encouragement to others in their lawlessness is the ultimate in loveless treachery. Elsewhere Scripture teaches, “Whoever brings back a sinner from his wandering will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins” (James 5:20). Paul describes the opposite situation: sinners’ condoning others’ abominable, self-destructive behavior, thereby ginning up man’s rush into the “multitude of sins” that Romans 1:28–31 has surveyed.
Little wonder, then, that this section began with the warning that “the wrath of God is [being] revealed from heaven” (Rom. 1:18). God’s response is the inexorable consequence of human wrongdoing.
Seattle, Olympia, Portland, Oakland, and West Hollywood are now, according to God's Word, bringing God's judgment upon the cities.
They are "giving approval to those who practice" such sins.
