Who Got The R-71 Names?

In a quick move---record setting time for government, Secretary of State Sam Reed's office got the R-71 names out the door to nearly all who had asked for them. They began minutes after Judge Settle's ruling and before our attorneys could get our appeal filed with the 9th Court.

They got CD disks into nearly all the hands who where waiting for them---for whatever purpose, during the time between the judge's ruling and the 9th Court accepting our appeal.

The Secretary's blog reported that 30 discs had been sent out, while the Seattle PI reported that 34 had been sent.

The head of Public Records, Brenda Galarza, told me she released 33 sets of names.

The 9th Court accepted our appeal and the names are once again sealed, however, all but 2 individuals who requested them, have received them.

I was struck by the hostility shown by Attorney General Rob McKenna's office toward those of us who were deposed in this case. I was not prepared for the hostility I and others met in Attorney General McKenna's office. Consequently, I was not as surprised at how he and Secretary Sam got the names out in record time, even though they knew the request for an appeal was being presented at the moment they were delivering the names.

The Seattle PI says Reed and McKenna have voiced confidence they will prevail in the appeal.

In a sense, they already have prevailed. They have released the names to press people who have requested them, but more importantly and concerning to me, they have released them to homosexual organizations and homosexual activists who have promised to "contact" and "have a conversation" with those who signed in defense of natural, biblical, historical marriage.

So, who received the names?

I have posted my complete communication with Secretary Reed's office of Public Records. You will note that most all those requesting and receiving the names did so under an individuals name. Some are reporters with the Seattle Times and other newspapers---some represent their activist organizations. I received the following email from Brenda Galarza at the Public Records office:

On a request from Elections, we created a list of names based from our Revenue rporting and need to strike two names from our earlier list (Dashiell and McLaughlin)- these individuals called about the list but ultimately did not purchase a DVD.
Sorry for the confusion. Please let me know if you have any questions.

  1. Gary Randall, or Doe #4, is a raging hypocrite.

First he was against the release of public information when it came to signatures on his anti-gay referendum.

Then he was for release when it was the names and addresses of City Light employees, who attended meetings of an LGBT employee group requested by an anti-gay employee with a history of harassing LGBT employees.

Then release was uncontitutional, until the conservative Supreme Court resoundingly disagreed.

Then once Judge Settle ruled against him, released not only the name but phone number of one of the "Doe's" Elizabeth Scott - along with a provocative statement, which his lawyers would have characterized as "death threat" were it directed against him.

Now he is taking it upon himself to release the names of citizens, who took the perfectly legal action of requesting public information from the state government!

Well, following Gary's reasoning, it should be obvious that should any unfortunate instance befall any of the people, whose names are listed here, anti-gay activists behind Referendum 71 will clearly be to blame!

  2. 11:33 It's interesting how you react to Gary's publishing your or your associates names when no pro-marriage Christian has ever made any threat against anyone who opposed R-71. The gay activists are the ones who have made the public threats and promises to call on all who signed the petitions.
Thousands of acts of violence and discrimination against pro-marriage Christians are on the record in California, all committed by gay activists. Where did Christians perpetrate any unlawful action against the gay activists. Who is the raging hypocrite?

  3. Actually Gary is pretty consistent. He believes what he believes. You may disagree, but why is he a hypocrite while you are not? You want our names released, but somehow take offense to your names being released.
Keep up the good work Gary.

  4. @11:33... Hostilities toward gay people don't just center around a single election. They happen every single day, perpetuated by so-called "Christians," like Gary, who make it their mission to demonize and dehumanize gay people every day.

I don't condone violence of any kind, or death threats, or even pulling signs from people's yards, but stand in a gay person's shoes any deal of the year, and you'll understand what it's like to always have to watch your back.

  5. Christians do not hate gays. God doesn't hate gays. The Bible says God condemns the behavior, not the people. I see Gary consistently condemning the behavior on biblical grounds and I see him making every attempt to stop those who are trying to redefine the culture and affirm their lifestyle.
You may not condone violence of any kind, but there those associated with the gay movement who do condone it and in fact advocate it. It only takes one you no, for something very bad to happen.

  6. anon 11:33 When did the Supreme Court become a conservative Supreme Court? Did that happen in the middle of the night?

  7. Try being someone who publicly stands for marriage. They also have to watch their back.

  8. I notice Andrew Garber and Lornet Turnbull are on the list. They both work for the Seattle Times. I think Bradley Shannon works for the Olympian. I wonder why they want our names?

  9. @ 1:25pm Last time I checked, every American has to watch their back, especially if Joe Biden's hate rhetoric is real. We live in a society where anybody can be robbed, beaten, or killed. Even the Seattle police dept. is in on the lawlessness -- lawlessness which has nothing to do with color, bedroom preference, or food choices. It's just the way life is at this point in our nation's history and to make it sound like your lifestyle is special -- wow.

    - It's been said "You can't legislate morality" yet somebody's morality has been legislated since the dawn of time. If you don't want me advocating for my sense of morality then:
    1) love your neighbor as much as you love yourself
    2) keep your bedroom door closed.

Especially on #2 (ahem) above, if you keep your bedroom door SHUT then I don't have to know. When you drag and parade for me to see then you're begging for my opinion. It's just an American thing you know, you get your opinion, I get mine. Wait, I already know you don't feel anyone else is entitled to their opinion if you are a "Diversity Preacher." Suck it up cupcake.

    - As far as this initiative is concerned, if the issue comes up again, I will sign it again. Sodomites don't control whom I do or don't have conversations with, or what I talk about.

    - I don't personally know Christians who "hate" homosexuals, but it's a great allegation to make in a smear campaign if you don't have anything else to stand on.

  10. I'm wondering why the state charges a different price to different people. Would that be each to his own ability or something. I wonder if the state will put the names on discount sale at some point. Like a Christmas, I mean holiday, sale.

  11. Why are some of you complaining? These names that Gary published don't even have their address and phone number. These people have my name, address and phone number. Relax.

    ReplyDelete
  12. @12:13 quit your whining. My name has been released for over two years, I donated to the campaign to support the domestic partnership law.

Gary's position has been consistent in one respect only: if it advances his politics its good, if not it's bad. It's called situational ethics and it's something most conservative christians claim to oppose.

    ReplyDelete
  13. These people have my name, address and phone number.
So you donated? (there is no call for phone numbers on the R71 petitions) I donated too! So that means you have mine at the PCC website just as easily as I have yours. For over 2 years in fact.

    Anyone have any problem?

Oh and I would love to hear about anything illegal done by 'gay activists' here in Washington state. I read through the depositions and the data submitted. All there are are anonymous from un known sources and internet pseudonyms who could be anyone, even Christians.

After having looked at some petitions I can see why you and yours don't want them released. Validated 'voters' without signatures, without complete addresses and even fraudulent ones! (next time remember there is no North Dawson Street in Seattle.)

But then there have been the videos on YouTube of gatherers bald face lying to people to try and get them to sign, I guess I should have expected nothing different from the R71 campaign start to finish.

  14. Brian Murphy is the guy from Whosigned.org. A look at his site shows that he hasn't posted them yet.

Addresses should be easy to find for the requesters given a few minutes. Maybe I'll blog them as they come in.

    ReplyDelete
  15. "I was struck by the hostility shown by Attorney General Rob McKenna's office toward those of us who were deposed in this case."

Pastor, I have asked you twice to please post some excerpts from your deposition, Mr. Stickney's deposition, or indeed, any deposition in the case in which the AG's staff demonstrated hostility, animus or a lack of professionalism. Please, if you are going to make accusations, then back them up. Just post a few paragraphs from these depositions to show us what you mean. If you don't have support for these accusations, then you should apologize.

Also, the 9th Circuit did not accept your appeal. It held that you violated a court rule and sent it back to the district court. And BTW, you had 2 weeks' advance notice that a ruling would be coming down from Judge Settle. Your crack legal team could have been ready with appeal papers within 5 minutes of getting the decision. Instead, you waited days. And then you complain that Sec. Reed responds to public requests for public records? In the absence of a stay, what basis did he have to refuse these requests?

    ReplyDelete
  16. I have to agree, I read through the depositions and from words alone I can't see the animosity - nicer than the times I've been deposed.

They tried to establish what actually happened, what the person thought the motivation was, was there a religious motivation, and asked questions to see if the person thought there could be other motivations.

At any rate now Judge Settle just needs to explain specifically why he ruled as he did and its over.

One thing I can't understand is why you are doing this to being with. Your lawyer is the one who turned corporations into just very rich people and in this is trying to make to so they can work in the shadows to pass any law they want by tossing unlimited cash at it.

You look at California and that should reassure you - anything and everything that happened there happened without the signatures even being public. And when you actually ignore the rumors and investigate you find very little actually did happen, and church vandalism occurred against the ones that were against Prop 8.
And in the states where petitions have been released there is no evidence of problems.

You are shooting yourselves and your descendants in the foot by trying to make it easier for those with power to use it for any nefarious goal they want.
