Schram Mixed Up About "Mix It Up At Lunch Day"

Ken Schram, the far left progressive soul of KOMO 4 and the Puget Sound region, is angry about opposition to public education's "Mix It Up At Lunch Day" scheduled for October 30.

And he's all mixed up about the intent of the day.

We should take a look at the real intent of this special day.
But first---the debate.

Romney was pitted against both the President and the moderator. A CBS post debate poll showed Romney beat Obama on the economy 65% to 34%.

The President did not tell the truth about the Libya fiasco and his message to the American public. Moderator Crowley baled him out by affirming that the President called the Libyan attack and massacre "terrorism" the day following the attack. The tape shows that he used the word "terror" the following day in a broad sense, but did not, as he and the moderator claimed, use the word in relation to Libya.

He also did not tell the truth about the number of oil well drilling permits he has cut during his tenure.

I cannot imagine how anyone who cares about life, marriage, the family and the economy, could vote for Barrack Obama for President.

Schram says, "The basic idea is for kids to hang out with someone that they normally would not hang out with; getting to know someone they might not otherwise even talk with."

Sounds good, but then the homosexual agenda usually comes in a plain unmarked wrapper.

That is why the American Family Association is opposing the event, and is the target of Schram's wrath.

Why is "Mix It Up At Lunch Day" such a great idea, Ken?

"Because," he says, "it helps kids who are picked on...and bullied..."

Making his stand against bullying, he calls the AFA, "a fringe group of fear-mongering people" who would "exert their influence to try to squelch efforts aimed at helping kids..."

Actually they are not a "fringe" group and they are not "fear mongering." However, they are very opposed to the event. And the advancement of the homosexual agenda in public school classrooms.

Here's why they are opposed and what you should know as a parent about who is behind the "Day."

The Southern Poverty Law Center is actually behind the event through their "Teach Tolerance" program.

Maureen Costello, director of "Teaching Tolerance" told ABC news, "We're trying to get them past the idea that you have to distrust people in another group."

But one of the "Teaching Tolerance" goals is to have kids affirm one another, regardless of sexual behavior. The implicit message is that if you do not affirm someone who is "gay" then you are hateful, a bigot and intolerant.

Tolerance is not affirmation.

During “Mix It Up” day, teachers are urged to speak to their students about tolerance. The Southern Poverty Law Center is providing resources and activities that can be implemented at each grade level. For instance, for grades K-2, the organization has activity ideas outlined for teachers under a program called, “It’s Okay to Feel Different.” Students will learn about the meaning of the words “difference” and “diversity,” among others. Teachers are also encouraged to read aloud the "It’s Okay to Be Different" children’s book written by Todd Carr, which is designed to “help students understand what diversity means and how it applies to them.”

On its website, the Southern Poverty Law Center lists the over 2,000 schools that are said to be participating in the upcoming effort. However, according to reports, some schools have been shocked to find their name included unaware.

“Many school administrators were offended to learn that their school was listed as a participating school on the SPLC website and ordered it removed immediately,” states the American Family Association. “In some cases, students or teachers independently signed the school up without approval, leaving principals and superintendents unprepared for phone calls from concerned parents.”

The organization has been working to alert parents nationwide about the upcoming observance and to ensure that their child does not participate.

AFA 's web site says they are joining other family-oriented groups in urging parents to keep their children at home that day if their local school is sponsoring the ‘Mix It Up’ project.” “The Southern Poverty Law Center is using this project to bully-push its gay agenda, and at the same time, intimidate and silence students who have a Biblical view of homosexuality.

“See if your school is on the list,” the American Family Association continues. “If it is, a simple phone call or letter to school administrators telling them your child will not attend school on October 30 may be enough to cause some participating schools to change their plans to sponsor, endorse, or promote ‘Mix It Up’ day. ”

The Southern Poverty Law Center has been working in other aspects of society as well to silence what it believes is bigotry and hatred against homosexuality. It says that it “monitors hate groups and other extremists throughout the United States and exposes their activities to law enforcement agencies, the media and the public.” Over 1,000 entities have been placed on its “hate group” list.

Interestingly, their hate group list includes Focus on the Family, Family Research Council and AFA.

Bryan Fischer, a spokesman for AFA told the New York Daily News, "It is a thinly veiled attempt to push the homosexual agenda into public schools. Groups like the SPLC are not interested in anti-bulling legislation unless it can be used to bully Christian students who have moral questions about homosexual behavior.

Fischer said, "This looks innocent on the surface. But it's like Halloween candy that's been poisoned. The wrapper is fine. The label is fine. But if it's been poisoned, it's not until you ingest it that you realize how toxic it is. That's what this 'Mix It Up' day is like."

Ken Schram is all mixed up on the intent of this day. At least I hope it's merely a misunderstanding and not an endorsement.

This is a "Trick," Ken, not a "Treat."

Be Vigilant. Be Discerning. Be Prayerful. Be Active. Be Blessed.
