The House of Representatives has passed HR 4919---Referred to as "Kevin and Avonte's Law"---a new law that is said to be a protection for the elderly and the young.

The bill was presented as a way of "protecting the disabled" by inserting a microchip so authorities can track them, making it more difficult for them to get lost---and easier for the authorities to track them.

The bill will now go before the Senate.

Do we really want to go down the path of inserting microchips in people in order to "help them?"

H.R. 4919 specifically addresses those with "Alzheimer's Disease" and "children with developmental disabilities such as autism."

The Daily Caller tells us that "the program's mission would be to find 'individuals with forms of dementia, such as Alzheimer's Disease, or for children with developmental disabilities, such as autism, who have wandered from safe environments'."

The bill also requires that the government come up with "best practices for the tracking devices."

Representatives like Sheila Jackson (D-Texas), Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ) and others are extolling the many benefits that will come from this new law---underscoring the tragedies that will be averted through this practice.

However, Louie Gohmert (R-Texas), speaking from the House Floor, says, "While this initiative may have noble intentions, 'small and temporary' programs in the name of safety and security often evolve into permanent and enlarged bureaucracies that infringe on the American people's freedoms. That is exactly what we have here," he says. "A safety problem that exists for people with Alzheimer's, autism and other mental health issues, so the fix, we are told, is to have the Department of Justice start a tracking program so we can use some device or method to track these individuals 24/7."

He went on to say, "Sponsors of this bill tell us not to worry, because they got language in there that says the tracking device cannot be 'invasive'---it is totally voluntary AND it is only a couple of million dollars to get it started---so it's not all that much money."

Gohmert said, "It is absolutely staggering that the Republican majorities in the House and the Senate could be so blind to government overreach that they would allow a federal tracking program, not for criminals in the US, not for terrorists, not for illegal immigrants, or even immigrants who commit crimes, but for people with 'developmental disabilities',. a term that is subject to wide misinterpretation."

I'm reminded of Ben Franklin's warning, "Those who surrender freedom for security will not have, nor do they deserve, either one."

Gohmert was hot. He continued, "The Senate Republican leaders even brought it to the floor with almost no one there and asked that the new Big Brother program be passed without even having a vote at all---someone just asks for 'unanimous consent.' Since no one is advised about the bill being brought up, no one who would object knows to be there, so it passes without anyone ever actually voting for it."

The consensus was tallied according to those present, and the margin of approval was almost 300, which means it had broad support from both parties.

Republican Rep. Chris Smith, the bill's main sponsor, told the press after its passage, "Kevin and Avonte's Law...can bring these children home safely."

We have been inserting chips into our pets for years, and while that has become common place, are we now ready to take the next step and begin to "chip" our children and our elderly?

Where does this stop?

Whitney Webb, a conservative critic on the matter of microchipping is concerned.

He says, "Giving local police the authority to decide who is microchipped and who is not based on their mental soundness is a recipe for disaster."

Webb says "...how long before these tracking programs are extended to those with ADHD and bi-polar disorder---among other officially recognized disorders? Even the dislike of authority is considered a mental disorder known as Oppositional Defiant Disorder."

So, at some point, those who oppose this intrusion of government could be diagnosed as someone who must be "chipped and tracked" for their own "personal safety."

In Dubai---right now---they are "preparing for new injectable microchips that will be inserted into the back of the hand which will allow people to buy and sell without money."

How convenient---no lost purse or wallet. No one will pick your pocket. It will reduce crime and increase protection for citizens they have been told.

Look at all the problems the chip will solve---theft of money and personal identity, convenience, safety and a host of other benefits.

NBC broadcast a special report 8 years ago predicting that "by 2017 all of us will have a chip under our skin." The article goes on to outline all the benefits that will come from "the chip."

Missing from the NBC story is the fact that "the chip" will also create a control mechanism.

Michael Snyder is an author, teacher, and speaker on Bible prophecy.

He wrote an article Friday for Charisma news about this bill (H.R. 4919) which is threading its way through Congress with enormous Republican support and its biblical prophetic implications.

When you look at this technological advancement and the push to implement it "to help people," every biblical Christian should first be informed, secondly be discerning, and thirdly understand the times in which we live.

Snyder points to Revelation 13:16-17 and these comments about the Anti-Christ: "He causes all, both small and great, both rich and poor, both free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their forehead, so no one may buy or sell, except he who has the mark or the name of the beast of the number of his name."

While the biblical Christian is instructed to "look up" when you see these things come to pass, biblical Christians are also called to be informed.

And to be "salt and light" in our world of decay and darkness. That, of course, requires we be involved in speaking the Truth to the culture.

In regards to the biblical "mark," we aren't there yet, and this isn't "the mark," but it is certainly a step toward normalizing and accepting that kind of thinking about problem-solving and "helping people"--- it's a clear step in that direction.

If there was ever a time to...

Be Informed. Be Discerning. Be Vigilant. Be Pro Active...it's now. This is also a time to "look up."
