Seattle Police: "These are not Peaceful Protests"

Standing in broken glass, looted buildings, and the smoke from burning cars and bonfires, the Seattle Police overstated the obvious Sunday night and declared: "These are criminal acts, not peaceful protests."

Why would they even feel a need to declare the acts "criminal" when ordinary people can tell at a glance they're anything but "peaceful"---they're clearly breaking the law.

Portland's mayor, who is experiencing the same outcome as Seattle's mayor---because they both are of the same progressive beliefs---is giving people a clue as to why the police must describe the looting, burning, and destruction as "criminal."

Be informed, not misinformed.

Cause and effect.

Seattle's Q13 TV is reporting that things went bad Sunday when a group began throwing rocks, bottles, and firecrackers at police, injuring 12 officers. One was taken to the hospital.

The "protesters" vandalized SPD headquarters and Seattle Municipal Court before targeting downtown businesses and marching to the West Precinct, "where they tried to break in but were thwarted by officers injuring multiple officers and sending one to the hospital."

Police arrested two people, but the "protesters" moved on. Q13 says:
"From there, the group went to Capitol Hill for more looting and property damage...They set a small fire inside a business as well as inside the East Precinct where windows had been smashed."

Breitbart reported,
"Video on social media shows protesters linked to Black Lives Matter rioting in Seattle Sunday, including smashing windows and looting an Amazon store while protesting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for detaining illegal migrants."

So, it's not really about black lives, but about open borders and that hated group known as "ICE."

More specifically, it's about hating President Trump.

Portland's mayor, who also watched his city looted, burned, broken, and destroyed Sunday---as it has been for 51 consecutive days --- explained to CNN what's really going on.

Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler told CNN the reason these peaceful demonstrations have turned so violent is because of Donald Trump.

Wheeler said:
"The President has a complete misunderstanding of cause and effect. What's happening here is we have dozens if not hundreds of federal troops descending upon our city. What they're doing is they are sharply escalating the situation. Their presence here is actually leading to more violence and more vandalism. And its not helping the situation at all. They are not wanted here. We haven't asked them here. In fact we want them to leave.

CNN's Jake Tapper asked, "Do you think the Trump administration is breaking the law in your city?"

Wheeler responded, "I absolutely do"...Trump's tactics are "abhorrent."

Tapper never thought to ask the mayor how he feels about the burning, breaking, and looting that has taken place for more than 50 consecutive nights in the city.

Perhaps it's Wheeler, not Trump, who has the "complete misunderstanding of cause and effect." Or maybe he's in denial like Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan has been since she labeled the Capitol Hill fiasco a "summer of love."

"Liberal Cities, Radical Mayhem."

Back when the "protests" began, the Wall Street Editorial Board published an editorial titled: "Liberal cities, Radical Mayhem."

They began with this:

The “broken-windows” school of policing says that you can help maintain public order by taking care of even small examples of disorder—such as fixing broken windows. Liberals scorned that policy in the last decade as somehow racist. Well, in recent days we’ve learned that America’s left does have a broken-windows policy: Let rioters break enough windows and loot enough stores and maybe their righteous anger will be satisfied.
That’s certainly how it looked when the June sun rose Tuesday over the broken glass, looted storefronts, burnt-out cars, and vandalized buildings in New York, Philadelphia, St. Louis, Madison and other American cities. Public officials let rioters exploiting the memory of George Floyd run wild in the streets. Even after nearly a week of violence, these and other liberal Democratic cities let lawless radicals harass and plunder almost at will.

The WSJ concluded that if these mayors can't or won't stop the mayhem, these "Democrats will be complicit in destroying their own cities and harming the very people they claim to speak for."

Now, after nearly 2 months of mayhem, these so-called "progressive" far-left mayors continue to make excuses for the weeks and weeks of rioting in their cities---and now Trump has sent federal law enforcement officers to protect federal buildings.

The feds have no plan to leave.

Acting Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Mark Morgan said yesterday they have no plans to leave.

He said:
"These individuals we're talking about are not protesters, they're criminals. Every night they're willfully coordinating, organizing and planning to intentionally attack and destroy federal property and harm agents and officers. Those are criminals, that's who we're talking about, that's why we're there...and we're not going anywhere.

President Trump is also weighing in on the situation as he plans to send additional federal resources to cities around the country this week.

Takeaway

This is not what our Founding Fathers had in mind when they provided for peaceful demonstrations. Our founding documents were created in a political and social environment infused with a Christian consensus---a biblical understanding that there are absolutes of right and wrong. And those values are derived from the Bible, thus providing for virtue in society.

This is why Samuel Adams, a Founding Father---also known as the "Father of the American Revolution"-- said,
"The soul or Spirit of Democracy is Virtue. No state can long preserve its liberty where virtue is not supremely honored."

These crazies running the streets of our cities burning, breaking and looting in the name of "peaceful demonstrating" is insanity beyond description---insanity only exceeded by the so-called progressive mayors and governors who watch from their box seats using every tool available to keep Trump out of their coliseum where normal citizens and taxpayers are being thrown to the rioters, while the elites cheer them on.
