Rome is burning.
In New York City, parents must sign for children to receive an Advil at school or for their under age child to get a piercing or tattoo, but not for their underage daughter to be given a Plan B pill--- a pill that some consider to be an abortion pill.
This is what The New York Times had to say about it this week, after the Post had broken the story.
Is this a cultural snapshot of the progressive path being blazed by the tyranny we call public education?
I believe it is.
The media is generally reporting this week that there is "little resistance" to the program from parents.
Here's why the parents have been silent.
And there is a stern warning from the ancient prophets regarding allowing our children to be taken by those who oppose Judeo-Christian beliefs.
At the beginning of the school year, the administration sent a note home with students, which told parents about their "Connecting Adolescents to Comprehensive Health" or "CATCH" as they call it.
In the body of the note, they mentioned they would be expanding their "comprehensive healthcare" to include Plan B and if parents didn't want their child to be given Plan B, to check the box and have their child return the note.
Now that this story has been pushed into the national news, the NYC Board of Health is telling the media that "all parents had the option to opt out." And of course, the media, in general, is reporting this without explanation.
The 7000 unwanted pregnancies that this pill distribution is supposed to address are primarily among the very poor and minorities.
Margaret Sanger would be proud.
These would be the children least likely to give the note to their parents or return an "opt out" to the school.
Whose children are these? The parents or the states?
Another issue:
Are the schools breaking federal regulations? And, I suppose, if so, does anyone care?
Last December, the US Department of Health and Human Resources said Plan B "may not be dispensed over the counter to girls under 17 without a prescription."
Title X allows schools to dispense birth control drugs to children without parental consent, so does that mean schools can also dispense Plan B without parental consent or without a prescription?
And the most important issue:
Which should prevail---parental rights and authority or child's rights?
And to whom does the child belong---the parent or the state?
The laws in this area are not only confused, but perverse. The laws are a reflection of a confused and conflicted moral culture.
At the heart of the moral and social confusion is a radically led public education system that is eroding parental authority, undermining parental teaching and beliefs--- driven by the activist secular progressive movement that has colonized our public schools.
And it should be noted that while American public education was ranked first and best in the world prior to the secular progressive high jacking, it is now far down the list.
There are a number of lists and reports regarding America's standing in education, most driven by various interests.
Even the far left Huffington Post admits US education is only rated "average." This is another report.
Look at this one. And here's what Wiki Answers says:
"I can't find an exact answer, but here is what I've found in regards to the U.S. Rank in Education: In 2005, a study of adults 25-34 was released by the Organization for Cooperation and Development (based in Paris, France) and it stated that the United States was ranked Number 9 among industrialized nations in regards to the percentage of the population that has at least a high school degree. In discussing a college degree, the U.S. ranks seventh."
"Apparently 20 years ago the U.S. was ranked first on both accounts."
There is a growing concern among responsible, conservative parents of Christian faith, that as our moral foundations collapse, it will, and has begun, to negatively impact the teaching and relationship between the parent and the child.
Public education, assisted by Planned Parenthood, NARAL, GLSEN and other anti-family, anti-marriage, pro-abortion campaigns are molding our children into the image of the secular progressive.
Indoctrination above education.
There is a stern warning in the Bible regarding our children. Deuteronomy 28 is about obedience and disobedience to God and His Truth. And it is about consequences---curse and blessing.
V-32:"Your sons and your daughters shall be given to another people, and your eyes shall look and fail with longing for them all day long: and there shall be no strength in your hand."
V-41: "You will have sons and daughters, but they shall not be yours; for they will go into captivity."
Why did this happen?
V-47: "Because you did not serve the Lord your God..."
Obviously there were those who personally and privately served God and kept His Truth and Word in their heart and home, but this is about a nation who turned away from godly principles and the consequences were significant.
While during the Babylonian captivity their children were generally allowed to stay with them, it is repeatedly verified that during the Roman captivity their sons and daughters were taken from them by force, to be brought up with a different worldview, a different belief system and a different religion.
While the parents would look and yearn for their children, the prophets tell us they were powerless to do anything about it.
I believe we have not lost the blessing in America---yet. But a cursory glance tells us we stand on that threshold.
Founding Father Patrick Henry said, "When people forget God, tyrants forge their chains."
The chains are being forged.
As curse is promised to those who forsake the Word of God and His Truth, blessing and healing is also promised "If my people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land" (2 Chronicles 7:14).
Be Vigilant. Be Discerning. Be Prayerful. Be Engaged. Be Active. Be Blessed.
