The Associated Press reported last week that "Washington has seen a jump in the last month in the number of people signing up for private insurance through the state's health exchange." Obamacare.
This story, and others like it, have been published by various news organizations.
What has been generally missing is a story that KING 5, to their credit, did run.
They reported that "For the second week in a row, the Washington Healthplanfinder web site is down, and its causing problems for people who are dealing with billing issues." Obamacare.
Some of them say "the web site is mistakenly debiting their accounts"----as in personal bank accounts.
KING 5 says, "Shannon Bruner of Indianola logged on to her checking account and found she was almost $800 overdrawn."
She says, "The first thing I thought was 'I got screwed'."
The Bruners enrolled for insurance on Washington Healthplanfinder in October. They selected the bill pay to be December 24---7 days from today.
However, the web site drafted their $835 premium last Monday, the 9th.
Josh Bruner started his business this past year as an engineering recruiter. This has caused them to pay a lot of attention to their bills and bank accounts.
Shannon says she has a "Big knot in my gut because we're trying to keep it together."
She says, "It's important to me that this kind of stuff doesn't happen."
They're not alone.
KING 5 says that another woman told them, "They drafted my account this morning for a second time."
And another woman on Facebook posted, "We are all in the same boat."
Josh Bruner says, "We've got to figure out how to get money to pay the bills for the next week or two until we have another check come through." He says, "It's just crazy."
Shannon says, "We haven't bought anyone's Christmas gifts yet, we're just kind of waiting."
Josh added, "We wrote a check to our nanny last week, it isn't going to work, so she can't get paid."
This is a local snapshot of the struggles and challenges people all across the nation are facing as they try to comply with the new demands of Obamacare.
Republicans in Congress, who have exempted themselves from this fiasco, released documents yesterday saying that the Obamacare "Navigators" responsible "for helping consumers enroll under the new law have made a series of errors and put sensitive consumer information at risk."
Breitbart News obtained a copy of the report from the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee on Obamacare "Navigators." It isn't pretty.
The Committee found that "no background checks have been run on any of the approximately 50,000 who have been hired to "help" people. It also found the Obama administration has no plan to run any kind of background check on these helpers.
The Committee also found that in some cases the "Navigators" have actively encouraged enrollees to commit fraud in order to raise the personal subsidies.
Breitbart lists a number of violations that are documented to be occurring with the Navigators.
The Obama administration admitted there is no plan to even monitor these Navigators in regard to job performance.
Who are these Navigators?
I'm glad you asked.
Remember ACORN?....the community organizers that Barack Obama worked for as a lawyer and trainer?
Remember that a man named James O'Keefe, a guerrilla videographer, took video that captured ACORN workers following a similar pattern of advising people how to lie on government forms, how to exploit Medicade benefits and promoting voter fraud?
As a result of O'Keefe's reporting, the president of NPR got fired. And ACORN evaporated. Sort of.
Not only has the government hired nearly 50,000 people to "help" people sign up for Obamacare without even a background check, our government has doled out $67 million to hire and fund these Navigators, who, according to their own government sponsored website, "Serve as an in-person resource for Americans who want additional assistance in shopping for and enrolling in plans."
We now learn that some of this money is going to an organization run by ACORN's founder---who is---you guessed it---hiring former ACORN employees.
As Yoggi Berra would say, "It's Deja Vu all over again."
I think a lot of people can relate to Shannon Bruner when she said she has a "Big knot in my gut because we're trying to keep it together."
CBS reported on November 20 that 75% of Americans think that Obamacare should be delayed for at least a year.
Last Wednesday (Dec. 11) Rassmusen Survey found that only 28% of American voters think our country is on the right track---72% don't think it is.
A lot of people have a knot in their gut.
During the Christmas season, we encourage one another to have Peace and Joy and Faith.
"Peace on Earth-God and sinners reconciled"---"Joy to the world, let earth receive her King"---O Come All Ye Faithful"--- we all know the words.
But sometimes we have a knot in our gut. We can't disassociate ourselves from the global crises, the national fiasco, or our own personal one.
The world was in turmoil. The culture was on the wrong track. The personal world of many was upside down because of injustice, oppression and discrimination.
And the man speaking spoke of peace. Within hours He would be tortured to death by the government, with complicit assistance of religious leaders.
In this chaos Jesus said, "Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your heart be troubled. And do not be afraid" (John 14:27).
He continued, "I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world" (John 16:33).
On my live radio program this morning, I'm talking more about having God's peace in our present chaotic culture.
