More than 6500 homosexual registered domestic partners have chosen not to get "married" since Washington State redefined marriage in 2012.
Today the state is declaring them "married" whether they want to be or not.
It seems odd that there was such a fever pitch of demand for equality of status and benefits by the 10,000 in domestic partnerships in the run-up to redefining marriage, yet so many have refused to convert their domestic partnerships to "marriage."
Most all Washington's major corporations wrote big checks to be sure marriage was redefined, with Jeff Bezos, CEO and founder of Amazon, donating $2.5 million personally to the campaign.
The news media dutifully reported daily of the individual struggles of those suffering because homosexuals couldn't "marry." Even some Republican politicians took a public stand against their Party platform and marriage in support of solving the marriage inequality crises in the state.
Why have so many who felt discriminated against passed on the opportunity now, refusing to "marry" their same-sex partner since this opportunity was given in 2012?
Was their passion for the word "marriage" really focused on something other than what the institution of marriage has represented through out recorded human history?
Was the value of marriage to the homosexuals its virtue, or were they simply messing with marriage with a different goal in mind?---A much larger goal.
Matt Fleming of Spokane says he has considered himself "married" to his partner Casey Jackson since 2007 when they had a ceremony.
He says when marriage was redefined at the end of 2012, he knew some couples that rushed out and got "married" but "doing a domestic partnership for me was just like getting married."
He says, "I took it seriously at first" but got busy, moved on and have put it off.
This stands in stark contrast to the white hot passion during the election 2 years ago when Washington was guilted into passing this bill.
Apparently others share Fleming's lack of urgency about the matter.
In 2012, there were about 10,000 domestic partnerships in Washington State. These domestic partnerships had been extended to homosexuals who wanted to live together and get all the benefits of marriage, and to heterosexual couples, one of which was over 62, who also wanted to live together and receive all the benefits of marriage under state law.
Washington's law not only affirms and celebrates homosexuality, but rewards living in adultery.
The Secretary of State's office began sending out notices last year and again this past March reminding homosexuals that they would automatically be "married" on June 30, so if they want to dissolve their relationship they should do so before June 30, otherwise they will be required to get a divorce.
The Secretary's office estimates that among the numbers of "non-married," there may be up to 2,000 who by virtue of the age provision in the law (one over 62), they won't be required to "marry" but can continue to live together with the benefits of marriage without actually being married, with the blessing of the state.
More than 4,000 couples are expected to be automatically converted to "marriage' today whether they want it or not.
This is how the most important institutions of our culture are undermined and weakened.
Dave Ross at KIRO Radio and other far left Seattle talk show hosts and journalists repeatedly asked me during the campaign to protect marriage, "How, exactly will gay marriage affect your marriage?"
My answer was consistent, "My marriage is strong, nothing you do will affect my marriage to Marjorie," however, I told them, "what they were doing would substantially undermine the institution of marriage and ultimately the culture."
The law that homosexual activists led Washingtonians to pass is more about messing with marriage to facilitate redefining the culture than about the virtue of God-created marriage itself.
We are now learning that redefining marriage is the point of the spear pointed at the heart of religious liberty.
So called same-sex "marriage" and "homosexual rights" has created an environment that is intolerable toward religious freedom.
Homosexuals are targeting Christians who own small businesses, knowing full well what the owner believes. When the owner suggests the same sex couple find someone else, they litigate, because this issue is really not about marriage, or even equality, it's about much more than that.
It is about punishing people who do not affirm their behavior. And it is about taking the homosexual lifestyle to the ends of the earth.
It's also about advancing a global agenda that defies God and His Word.
This weekend the Associated Press ran an article about President Obama's leadership in the international homosexual movement that was published in nearly every newspaper in the country and many around the world.
I strongly recommend you read it.
AP says, "President Barack Obama has taken the US gay rights revolution global, using American embassies across the world to promote a cause that still divides his own country."
AP says some US embassies around the world are flying the rainbow flag alongside the Stars and Stripes.
Our president has already appointed 5 openly homosexual ambassadors and has nominated a sixth one to Vietnam, waiting Senate approval.
The US is imposing sanctions on African countries who refuse to embrace and celebrate homosexuality---refusing often because of their deeply held Christian biblical beliefs.
Even Rauda Morcos, a prominent Palestinian lesbian activist, tells Associated Press that America appears to be trying to "colonize" their country culturally. She says America is too "patronizing" in their promotion of homosexuality.
World leaders, many dependent on aid from America, are scratching their heads trying to figure what is going on with the US. A country who once came to their countries with a message of the gospel---a message of hope and deliverance from sin in Jesus Christ, now comes with a different message.
The US is now sending missionaries of a different kind.
Paul spoke directly to this, and so should we.
In Romans 1 he wrote (v.18), "For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth...(v.28) and even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do things that are unfitting..." and concludes (v.32) that both those who practice such things and those who approve of those practices will be judged.
And some still believe Christians should not be involved with cultural issues. God help us.
