Public High School Requires Affirmation of Islam

Last fall Kevin and Melissa Wood learned their 11th grade daughter was being indoctrinated, then tested on Islam in her World History class.

The indoctrination included affirming, "There is no god but Allah," and learning the other Five Pillars of Islam.

Education, the progressive would say; but to a discerning parent, the tone, subject matter and focus of the exam was more than that---it was indoctrination.

When the troubled father contacted the school, things escalated with the father being banned from campus.

The father, a retired Marine, and the mother filed a law suit against the school last week, using the curriculum and the test as exhibits.

Also, I am including today an alert that gender selection in abortions is in Senate hearing tomorrow in Olympia, and I've included a wrap-up on all the political talk shows yesterday while Iowa casts the first votes today on who will become the next President of the United States.

SB 6612 will ban sex selection abortions in Washington State. A public hearing on that bill is scheduled for tomorrow at 8 AM in the J.A. Cherberg Building, Senate Hearing Room No. 4.

Dan Kennedy with Human Life Washington has sent out an alert which includes details on contacting Senators, talking points and facts regarding sex selection abortion which primarily targets females.

Today, Iowa citizens will cast the first votes in choosing who will be the next President of the United States.

There was a lot of discussion about the Iowa Caucasus yesterday.

Indoctrination rather than education.

I wrote about this matter regarding the Wood family and the teaching of Islamic doctrine last fall when it happened.

Last week, they filed a lawsuit.

The suit, filed by Thomas More Law Center on their behalf is against the Charles County Public Schools, the Board of Education, Principal Evelyn Arnold and Vice-Principal Shannon Morris of La Plata High School in Maryland.

In the exhibits, the suit claims the Wood's daughter was forced to profess and to write out the "Shahada" in work sheets and quizzes. The "Shahada" is the Islamic Creed, "There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is the messenger of Allah." This is the personal testimony or affirmation that this person has accepted Muhammad as their spiritual leader.

The teenager was also required to memorize and recite the Five Pillars of Islam.

The suit claims that the kids were taught, "Most Muslims' faith is stronger than the average Christian."

The kids were also taught:
  • Islam at its heart is peaceful.
  • To Muslims, Allah is the same God that is worshiped in Christianity and Judaism.
  • The Koran states, "Men are the managers of the affairs of women" and "Righteous women are therefore obedient."
The hand-out for the class is titled, "Islam Today."

In it, the kids are told, "Nowhere in the Koran does it say you go to paradise if you martyr yourself with a suicide bomb." "Important," the hand out reads, "the majority of Muslims do not live this way."

The class is not only structured to indoctrinate, but also serves as an apologist for Islam.

The materials used in the class room instructs students that jihad is "a holy war waged on behalf of Islam as a religious duty; a personal struggle in devotion to Islam especially involving spiritual discipline."

Where is the siren call for social justice and "separation of church and state" from the ACLU, the women's rights groups, the atheists or the lesbians?

Notably, the public school did not teach the kids that the Koran explicitly teaches in Sura 9-5 "to kill unbelievers wherever you find them."

The school has claimed they also taught a segment on Christianity, however, a quick look at the materials find that they spent less than one day on Christianity and 2 weeks on Islam. And I promise you, the kids were not forced to learn and recite the Apostles Creed---or John 3:16.

The Woods, as Christians, believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and our Savior, that Jesus died on the cross for our sins, and that accepting him as Savior and following His teachings is the only way to God and eternal salvation.

And to profess commitment to any other god in word or writing would be sinning against our Christian God.

Kevin, a former Marine, who fought in the deserts of the Middle East against radical Islam found this not only an attack on his personal Christian beliefs, but on his sense of patriotism as well.

A man who laid his life on the line to protect freedom, including religious freedom for all---not just Christians, now finds back home, his own daughter is being subjected to a not-so-subtle attempt by public education to proselytize her.

At first he asked the school to allow his daughter to opt out of these assignments because of the family's religious beliefs. The school declined, forcing her to either deny the Christian God or fail her test, which would impact her grades, which impacts her college options.

The family, together, chose to remain faithful to God and refused to complete the assignments.

Adding insult to injury, in an effort to silence any other Christians that may speak up on the issue, the high school principal, Evelyn Arnold, without a hearing or any public opportunity to address the issue filed a formal "No Trespass" against the dad for attempting to interfere with instruction in the class room.

Sadly and ironically, it is Kevin Wood who served 8 years as a Marine fighting for freedom from such things as this, who is now being denied those very freedoms.

He was deployed in Operation Desert Shield/ Desert Storm and while fighting lost friends to the Islamic extremists.

A few years later, Wood responded as a firefighter to the 9-11 Islamic terror attacks on New York City and the Pentagon.

Wood has witnessed firsthand, on many fronts, the destruction of Islamic terrorism. He has repeatedly put his life on the line to defend freedom, only to find when he questions his local high school regarding their aggressive teaching of Islam under the guise of "World History," he is forbidden to walk on the school grounds.

Those who seek to remake America have long understood the importance of public education.

In 1946, the United Nations Children's Fund chose as their motto: "Every child is our child."

Also in 1946, Aldous wrote in the forward to his now famous "Brave New World" the following:

“A really efficient totalitarian state would be one in which the all-powerful executive of political bosses and their army of managers control a population of slaves who do not have to be coerced, because they love their servitude. To make them love it is the task assigned, in present-day totalitarian states, to ministries of propaganda, newspaper editors and school teachers …”
